I don't have a proper story idea down, but here's a little something:
(Excerpt from a worn Hunter's Guide Book issued to all members of the Order of the White Eagle.)
Once, those afflicted with Lycanthropy were seen as terrible monsters due to their tremendous physical power, resilience, and bestial traits. This chimeric conversation of man and beast often took a terrible toll on the minds of those afflicted as new animal instincts and senses clashed with their natural reasons driving many mad. Thankfully those dark days are now in the past. In this new age of enlightenment, Lycanthropy is better understood and now seen as a treatable and controllable condition.
Those afflicted only need proper care and comfort to better understand their newfound "gifts" and walk a careful balance between who they once were and the bestial nature that now flows within them. Though still seen with suspicion by many, those with Lycanthropy can live fulfilling lives in society. Of course, not all chose to.
Lycanthropy bestows many "gifts" to an individual, heightened sense, enhanced physical abilities, and a powerful regenerative healing factor. Such abilities can tempt those afflicted to pursue less-than-honorable professions such as mercenary work, thievery, and even outright banditry. This has marred the reputation of those afflicted with Lycanthropy but should not be considered the norm for these people.
Nevertheless, one must be prepared to deal with such a threat as a member of the order. Quicksilver is an ideal choice of substance to dip one's blade or bullets in, as it disrupts their healing factor. Silver is also effective, but it does not entirely disrupt healing, only delays it; thus, silver-edged weapons must strike true and avoid a prolonged battle. Fire is also an attractive option, for burns do not heal properly either.
Lacking any of these means, a Hunter should opt to cause as much damage as possible to overwhelm the Lycanthrope's healing factor. Heavy caliber munitions, greatswords or axes, Magical spells or a sustained barrage of attacks with mundane weapons can bring a Lycanthrope down in time. Still, it is not advised to be drawn into a protracted battle, for this will naturally benefit the Lycanthrope.
(Scribbled at the bottom of the worn journal are the following notes:)
Lycanthropes are not immune to digestion! Though they put up one HELL of a fight. - Chista Moon
Note to self: Lycanthropes are tough to digest and all that fur isn't fun to belch up. Though digestion still seems to be the best way to deal with their regenerative abilities.
