“On another excursion into Sector VX8, a member of the team stabbed her foot on a series of spikes emerging from the ground. They were as black as coal, but they appeared to be organic. Not long after her skin was pierced, the subject’s skin rapidly darkened, while also growing several rigid spines on her arms and back.
Much like Subject L1, this new transformation- which we have dubbed Subject D1 -devoured multiple other people. She immobilized her prey by stabbing them with her spines, at which point the victim’s body went numb and became unable to move. I believe that her spines injected a fast-acting venom to achieve this effect.
Curiously, both of the people to undergo transformation thus far were female. A male colleague of mine was jabbed by the same spikes that induced D1’s metamorphosis, but he was unaffected. This requires further research.”
