Hide and Seek

An Original Character Poem
 
 
 
He had his eye on me for quite a while
in my kindness I always greeted him with a smile
never could I have pictured this
that I’d fall for one of his vile tricks
 
Let’s play a game of hide and seek, he said
setting the dark path that I would be led
too eager for fun, I agreed and let myself race
I never saw him lick his lips and give chase
 
In the woods I hid among the trees
autumn leaves crunched beneath my feet
I’m good at hiding, so I thought
but little did I know what terrors he wrought
 
Running through the forest, my heart in knots
he chased me with no sign to stop
no hiding spot would keep me concealed
from the predator he had now revealed
 
As I scampered across the woods like a bunny
he called me in a voice as sweet as honey
don’t be afraid, I won’t hurt you
gobbling you up is all I want to do
 
On a stray branch, the hem of my dress ripped
bent my tired ankle and finally tripped
clutching my wrist, he pushed me down
all those happy smiles became a frightened frown
 
I thought you loved me, I cried
he smirked at me as he laughed and sighed
of course I love you, this is why
you my dear, I am making all mine
 
His tongue glided across his greedy lips
as though drinking my fear in delicious sips
before the last thing I ever saw
was the spreading of his vicious jaws
 
He drew me close and swallowed me down
not even a scrap left of my gown
descending a dark and slimy path
my body subjected to his gullet’s wrath
 
Slipping within his rumbly abyss
oh dear, all the things I would miss
ending up in this predicament, I don’t know how
it seems I’m in his belly now
