My car broke down. Again! Posted 4 years ago
Just as the title states, while running an errand my car broke down. AGAIN!!! It's fortunate I had my new phone, as it allowed me to call my folks and get a tow. Plus, as fate would have it, the dealer where we go get my old Honda Civic LX repaired was in the same town/city that I broke down in, so that was at least some good fortune. Sadly, however, that means I have no car for a while. And the car needs more work than just the breakdown itself. The cruise control has been dead for months since replacing the starter, the gas tank cover has been broken for months, and the gas meter stopped working a few weeks ago. And the dealer will probably find even more now that it's in their "care", just like always. So, yeah, today was rough and I won't be able to get anywhere for quite...

Mom's next surgery Posted 4 years ago
Well, today's the day my mom gets the first half of her cataract surgery. They'll be doing the right eye today, which is her weaker eye, with the left eye in a few weeks. We've been waiting for this day, as mom's ability to see has gotten worse and worse, so it will help her greatly when she has better vision. The appointment is at 8:20 this morning, so she's already on her way down to where she's getting the surgery. This is also her third major surgery this year, after having a stent put in followed by the defibrillator, so she's been through the mill. But, hopefully, once they do the left eye, everything will get better for her. If there is one good thing about this pandemic it's that dad is home so he can help her, though I need to be on-deck as well in case mom needs anything and dad...

Mom's surgery Posted 5 years ago
Well, today is the day of mom's second surgery. This one is for the defibrillator instillation and she had to be at the hospital at 6 AM. It was originally an afternoon appointment, but someone preceding her canceled, so she got pushed up. That's fine, as it means she can get it done sooner and go home quicker, though it was a 2 hour ride from their home to the hospital, so they had to get up at 4 AM. We don't know if she'll be staying overnight or not but either way she and dad are at the hospital right now. Hopefully everything goes accordingly, as this is a vital surgery for her. Let's hope for the best.
Birthday #31 Posted 5 years ago
Hi all.

Yeah, today is March 15th, also known as my birthday. Another year has come and gone for this dork. However, this birthday will be different. Originally, we were going to do our traditional events, which is go to Red Robin for a free birthday burger and hot fudge sundae, but a wrench got thrown into the works. Since mom is going in for her surgery on the 20th to have the defibrillator installed, the hospital called yesterday and told her that she needs to self-quarantine herself until then in order to avoid the coronavirus. So, my birthday is pretty much stalled. We're still going to do the Red Robin bit, but only after the surgery, as the "offer" lasts all month, but it means today will be basically like any other day. So, yeah, looks like my 31st birthday...

Sorry for the lack of updates Posted 5 years ago
Hi, everyone. Sorry for the lack of any real updates lately, my family and I have been going through a lot lately.

Let's start from the top. Remember when I mentioned that Peggy Ann passed away in December? Well, her sister, Pat, died roughly two weeks later. That's right, we had two deaths in the family within the span of 30 days. They're holding the mass and funeral in March, but we won't be able to go. Two reasons: 1) It's on Long Island in Suffolk County, which is way to far for us to go. And 2) We have other "issues" to attend to. Which will be described in the next paragraphs. So, yeah, it's a pretty sad time for the family right now.

Next up, mom is in need of three major surgeries. It was originally going to be only two, but when they were going...

A recent death in the family Posted 5 years ago
Hi all. I just learned some bad news today. There was a death in the family. My aunt (on one of my parent's side, anyway, I'm not sure) Pat lost her sister, Peggy Ann, sometime this week, and my parents and I just got the news today. I didn't know her very well, I admit, but it's still a shock to hear that we lost someone this week. So, mom and I spent some time getting a special card and a gift for Pat, since there is no way we'd be able to attend the funeral (they live in Suffolk County on Long Island, we live in the Adirondacks, that's way too long of a trip for us). It was bit of a shock, and we didn't know them very well (they were... difficult members of the family, to put it simply), but a loss of a family member is a loss of a family member. Rotten timing for it, just before the...

More car trouble Posted 5 years ago
Well, it's been a while since I posted something, so here I go.

My dad hit a deer about a week ago or so, smashing the front of his 2012 Subaru Forester. I had to temporarily loan him my car (and 2002 Honda Civic LX) until he got a loaner car, while the Forester got towed away. Unfortunately... after inspection... it's considered totaled. Yep, that damn deer totaled our car. They're going to offer us roughly $7,000 for it for scrap, but that means we've got bit of a problem. For starters, it means now we only have ONE car between us. Secondly, since dad works (teacher's aid), it means he'll be effectively taking my car until further notice (or at least until we have to return the rental, which will be next Tuesday), so I'm effectively grounded. This will make obtaining...

Well... this was unexpected Posted 5 years ago
Well... I must admit I wasn't expecting something like this to happen, but it happened.

Around the start of summer I got a Nintendo Switch, which I got virtually 70% off due to stockpiled store credit at the only game retailer in my area: Gamestop. But I was pretty adamant about not getting a Nintendo Online Subscription, as I don't like such things, along with the fact it doesn't actually improve any of the games (that and I have to stretch my budget each month, due to getting a once-a-month Social Security Disability check). However... that has changed. Yep, I got a Nintendo Online Subscription. And it's all because of this: a relative sent me a Switch Lite as a gift. Yeah, a relative sent me a $200 gift, which is insanely generous of him. He's my cousin's ex-husband...

Car trouble... again Posted 5 years ago
Well, today was pretty eventful.

It started out like any other day. But on my way to the salon to get a haircut and shave, my car broke down! AGAIN!!! This is the second time this summer it happened! Fortunately, there was a repair shop just a block away from where I was, and the car does start, more or less, so after I got my haircut and shave, my parents helped drop off my car. However, my adventures with car trouble doesn't end there. On the way back, my parents' car had a tire shredded!!! Two breakdowns in one day! We were stuck on the side of the highway. But a silver lining appeared. A very kind soul pulled up and helped us remove the now shredded tire and replace it with the spare donut tire (and, in the process, we learned that a colony mice had made a nest back...
