Starting the new year with... oral surgery... oh joy Posted 6 years ago
Yup, you read that right. I'm kicking off the new year with oral surgery. During my last root canal, my dentist noticed a strange growth in my upper gum. She warned that, if not dealt with, it could push out most of my front teeth. So, after some scheduling, canceling, and more scheduling, I'll be going in for oral surgery tomorrow. According to the specialist (who I've been to before, as he fixed my first, botched-up root canal), it's a very easy procedure, very cut-and-dry, and overall a simple task. I don't know what to expect atm, but I have to be there 20 or so minutes early so they can pump me up with Novocaine (at least I know I won't end up like most of those AFV people who get oral work done, who are all goofy because of the Novocaine, as I tend to tolerate it well). But, anyway,...

Finally all set up Posted 6 years ago
It's probably obvious at this point, but I FINALLY got my new desktop set up. Ugh... what a haul that was. But hopefully this one lasts just as long as my old one did. I had hoped to cut a corner at one point to limit my expenses, but fate never let's me win that easily. I was planning on using my old monitor with my new tower, since that still worked just fine. But, as always, fate likes making me take the long way... I broke the monitor by tugging at its wire too hard when I was putting everything together, causing it to fall behind my desk and break. *sigh* Everything just LOVES to sucker-punch me just when I finally think I'm all set. So... I had to buy another monitor. But on Nov 1st, everything was finally in place.

I still needed one last thing... which I was, again,...

Rust in Peace, old comrade... Posted 6 years ago
*sigh* Just when I thought my money woes we're just about over...

My desktop has finally keeled over. It suddenly stopped working one day and when I tried to force restart it, it wouldn't boot up at all. I had a member of the Geek Squad come over to find out why (it would've been too much to haul it down, as I'd have to move a few pieces of furniture and untangle some wires to get to its power cord), and when he tried to resurrect it, well... you can guess that it didn't respond. He said that it would be more expensive to fix and upgrade my old desktop than to just buy a new one. So... that's what I have to do. Considering I've had that desktop since well before high school, I guess I should've figured this would happen sooner or later, but it just HAD to happen now. I've...

Just great... Posted 6 years ago
Great. Just great. Another heavy expense coming my way.

In case you're wondering what I mean, two words can sum it up: root canal.

So another root in my teeth has bitten the dust. This will be my technically third root canal, but it's only the second tooth. The first time was when my broken tooth (one of them, anyway) needed it, but thanks to the nanowits at that dentist, they botched it up, so I had to go to a specialist for a redo. Now the neighboring tooth's root has keeled over, throwing in an infection to further kick me while I'm down. And the worst part is that the first two root canals and (most likely) this one will be out-of-pocket expenses. Simply put, my dental insurance is virtually useless. They didn't cover ANY procedure in the past and they most...

My latest adventure with my bird Posted 7 years ago
Well, time for an update from me. And it's a rather upsetting one.

I took my cockatiel, Zeru, to the vet today. His left foot was looking bad (something I had noticed earlier in the week but today was the soonest we could get an appointment), and it turns out his left foot is fractured. Well, specifically, one of his toes on his left foot. I have no idea how that happened, but the vet, who is quite the accomplished bird specialist, took one look and knew it was fractured. So Zeru had to get a splint for his foot and a cone around his neck. He was not a happy camper. She said it would take a few weeks to heal but wanted a follow-up in a week. But now little Zeru has a problem. The splint prevents (or at least limits) him from using his left foot, and the cone makes him...

The day of the Dork Age is upon us Posted 7 years ago
Or, to be exact, it's the day the dork ages.

Yes, today is my birthday. 29 years old, and still a US Grade A All-Beef Dork. As per our usual tradition, we'll be going out to my favorite gourmet burger chain (Red Robin) for dinner because I get a free birthday burger AND hot fudge sundae. However, we have another little twist this time around. Since I have to get spiffed up a bit (haircut/shave, since I'm starting to get a little shaggy), we're also cashing in on a free birthday sundae from Friendly's at lunchtime to boot. Yeah, double the free stuff for me today. Though my whole day won't be just fun and food. No, I also have to spiff up my apartment as well, so I'll be getting an early start on that. Not that my apartment is bad or anything, I always keep it tidy, but my pet...

Got a quick question about an anime Posted 7 years ago
Well, it's been a while since I've last posted a blog here, but things have been fairly busy here.

Anyway, I was wondering something. It's in regards to a certain anime/manga I've been potentially eyeing as a potential new addition to my media cabinet. So here's the question: Is Ranma 1/2 as good as most say it is? I know this may seem like a very outdated question, since the series has been around for years, but one has to remember that my exposure to various anime, manga, and games has been very limited throughout my life. Rarely do I get the jump on stuff like that, especially due to a lack of cable/game stores for most of my life, the exceptions were usually non-cable based series like Pokemon and Digimon back in the early days, so I tend to get exposed to things late. So...

This has been a lousy start of the year... Posted 7 years ago
I suppose you're wondering why I haven't posted much in a while. Truth is... I've been terribly sick.

On New Years Day I caught a cold, and boy was it a vicious one. Lasted a good week or 10 days, and I was very miserable.

Now, starting yesterday, I've gotten sick AGAIN! I took every precaution this time around, but in the end I got sick once more. Both times, however, I know who to blame. My dad. He's a teacher's assistant now, and a lot of the kids in his class are sick, so he most likely transferred something over to me from his class. Of course he'd get out without a scratch, but not me, leaving me very miserable.

This is the first (and second) time I've really gotten sick in a very long time. I did once have a head cold, but that effectively...

New tech in my home Posted 7 years ago
Well, I got an early Christmas gift today.

Okay, technically, mom and I split the bill, but I offered to have it count as a gift, since I wasn't asking for much this year anyway.

Anyway, I have a new 32" Samsung LED flat-screen TV in my apartment. I was planning on getting a new TV sometime later on, but when mom and I went on a joint grocery shopping trip at Walmart (we often do that, as I can help her around the store and she has the bigger car), we saw it on sale and, well, bought it, splitting the cost between us. It was just as well, as, like I said, I've been planning on buying a new TV for a few months now, but wanted to wait until I got certain things ironed out first. My old LG flat-screen was due for a replacement, as not only have I had it for...
