Waking up with no memory and being made to play a mysterious eldritch captor's pet project would be complicated enough. Having your viewpoint shifting between in-universe and player perspectives is another wrinkle. The pieces being alive and having an agenda you don't know yet is, frankly, ordinary in comparison.
At first glance, this should look a lot like Inscryption. The rules are transparently based on that, yes, as is the GM's style. However, that game has it's own twist and lore which I am not repeating or copying. An explanation of what the GM is and where they came from will come eventually.
As for the sentient card, readers who've been paying attention to my recent writings probably figured out their identity right away. Though they aren't exactly feeling themself at the moment...

Interesting take on the idea of being trapped in a game! There are a lot of mysteries here, and I'd like to learn more about what's going on if you choose to follow up on this.

I get that. I've started writing so many projects and then got sidetracked or lost interest.
