It is not an old version of their world, but an alternative one. One very close to the events of Nancy's and Mary's own universe, may be even identical up to the time where Nancy did not go to the convention where she had that incident. Then the timelines of the two universes split up. Yet, in the other universe an unaltered Nancy and her friend Mary went diving, too. But in this timeline they spent too long under water, because Nancy did not suddenly feel weird. They ran out of air and did not survive (see page 8). These drowned versions of Nancy and Mary are the bodies the Nicoles in the background of the first frame bring in through the second portal - quite irreverently.

What Merry instructs them to tell in her parting speech is consistent to what actually happened, but she withholds from the two orphaned from their world the actual events in their own universe, and I'm not sure if it's actually legal motives for not telling them, like her speech implies, or if she wants to spare Nancy's conscience from the knowledge of her biosphericide - unintentional as it was - possibly both.

I will just strip away the ambiguity of the last point : the "legal reasons" are just a cover, it's indeed to preserve Nancy, and Mary, of the chock that their world has been destroyed by their own unintentional actions ^^

this is why groundbreaking(literal ground too in this example) should be left to true geniuses with a sense of responsibility(morality optional, but not required)

really poor finger discipline, durability craftmanship, and portability, and ergonomics, maybe its good for post accident toothpick so i'll give some credit there.

but fair its all the malpractice of uber eats who pushes their drivers to cut corners and drive on sidewalks to meet their delivery quota, and this one even delivered to the wrong person(albit involuntarily)

Nah, Mary is just laying on the "amplified" boobs of Nancy (basically, Mary was turned into a GTS by going throught the Bio-Dimensional-Portal, then it fell on Nancy chest and made her boobs gigantic, and then, the portal broke...)
