They found Chu's spear and one mitten among the polar bear's prints. It was not unheard of for one of the tribe to be devoured by a nanuq, despite the long-standing treaty between the bears and the people. What confused the elders was the placement of the footprints. They understood why he'd approached the bear – he had a reputation for such things, with male bear or female – but why did Chu's tracks lead behind the nanuq, then disappear? Had it somehow spun around and seized him without leaving any trace?
In the end heads were shaken and it was simply accepted that their fellow tribesman was certainly inside a bear at the moment. In this they were correct, but none would have believed how Chu ended up there.
I have a setting I've used for a few stories in which the Alaskan Inuit (eskimos) and sapient polar bears live in relatively peaceful coexistence. Sometimes male bears seek out the Inuit women for sex, and rarely one of these bears eats the woman. It occurred to me that the opposite could be true – a human male could seek out a female (or male) polar bear for sex. And maybe, just maybe, the bear's jaws and claws are not the only thing such a man should worry about. 83

Polar bears have purple tongues and a purple/black interior of their mouth. Lacking reference pictures of the male and female naughty bits of a nanuq, I tend to assume they are either black or purple. 83

Generally I view an unwilling suction entrance like this as a predatory act. That's to say, the female is not doing this for fun, and she probably has some way to digest things that go in that way or she wouldn't go to all that effort. 83
