The girl awoke from her pleasant slumber to a cool gust of morning wind. She quickly realized that the fire had burned itself out. So not wanting to simply sit in the cold cave, she trekked out to the beach to gather more firewood. Outside the day was just starting. The sun had began to creep over the horizon, there was morning bird song in the forested area, and the tide was going out. After taking a moment to soak in the scenery she began her scavenger hunt in search of dry wood. It took her about a half hour to gather enough wood to keep the morning cool at bay, and she quickly realized that if she couldn't gather a decent stock of wood or at least cut some of the palm trees down and let them dry out on the beach she would be in for some very cold nights. Unfortunately she didn't have any cutting tools larger than a pocket knife with her. The girl walked back into the cave eying the whale that still slumbered in the shallow pool. After kindling her fire she set several of the fish to cook. even though she couldn't eat all that at once, cooked meat lasted longer than raw meat. To her surprise the whale suddenly yelled her name.

Sheila walked through a forested area. She smiled at the breeze played with her hair. the smell of pine was heavy in the air and she could feel every leaf on the forest floor. Looking up she saw a girl climbing the tree. Sheila started to run after her, worry suddenly filled her as a branch snapped under the girl. "Help!" The girl cried. Sheila swam as fast as she could to reach the girl's tree. The branch the girl was hanging on to snapped and she plummeted down to the water. "LINDA!" Sheila called as she jumped to catch the girl.

The whale suddenly woke with a start to the smell of fish cooking. The events of her dream already starting to fade. Glancing about the cave her eyes fell on the girl, who was staring at the whale from her little camp fire. "You said my name." the girl said

"What?" Sheila responded, still groggy with sleep.

"In your sleep, you said my name." The girl said again.

Sheila had no idea what she was talking about, however she was surprised the girl was so suddenly talking to her. "Well, you seem very talkative suddenly. So please tell me, What exactly did I say?" she quizzed the girl.

 "Linda." the girl respond.

Sheila was struck silent by her response as the dream suddenly came back to her. "Linda." was all she could say for a moment.

"Yes." Linda said "How did you know my name?" she asked.

"I don't know" Sheila said, the dream once more fading from her mind. "You were falling.."

 "What?"

The whale shock her head, trying to catch the last of the memory. "I don't know" she said. Sheila's eyes shifted to the fire. "Were did you learn to make fire so readily?" she asked changing the subject.

"Oh that? I learned it while I was in the cub scouts." Linda responded.

 "Whats a cub scout?"

"I.. I don't remember" The girl said as she cocked her head trying to remember any details relating to her past. After several minuets of silence Linda removed the fish that were cooking over the fire. While eating one she wrapped the rest in a large T-shirt she had found in the baggage.

"So... How old are you?" Sheila asked, trying to get the girl to speak some more.

 "10" said Linda.

"Oh..." the whale said after a moment. "I'm sorry for eating you, but you must understand. I did it to save your life."

The girl turned back to the whale "How was that saving my life? Couldn't you have let me ride on your back instead?"

"No. Don't you remember? we were chased by sharks."

It wasn't until that moment that the girl recalled what the whale had said in those first few moments of the nightmare. "Oh.." was all she could manage to say.

"Well.. Do you forgive me?" Sheila pleaded. After a moment of thinking the girl nodded. "Thank you." said Sheila.

After another few moment of silence the girl stepped a little closer to the whale and asked What are you going to to with me? Sheila hadn't given any thought on what to do with the girl other than seeing to that the girl would be kept safe.

Nothing. she said after a moment Feel free to go about the island as you wish, however seeing as how Im restricted to the sea I have no idea what my be in store beyond the beaches. All I want is to make sure you are safe.

OK.. Linda said rather surprised by the answer. "What your name?" she asked after a moment. Sheila was shocked at first but soon realized she hadnt told the girl her name in the first place.

 "Sheila" she said.

"Well." said Linda "It's a pleasure to meet you, Sheila."

"Thats a very formal greeting for a small girl" Sheila said. "Its a pleasure to meat you too. Now I would like to sit around and chat but, unlike you, I havent eaten yet and Im famished so Ill be back in a little while." and with that the whale backed out of the cave and into the lagoon.

At that point she put out what was left of the fire and went outside to contemplate privately the events of the morning. "Sheila." she said to herself. "That sounds very familiar."
