Here, our discussion turns to the structure of Terkati families, as well as an introduction to their mating rituals. Readers should be mindful that the Night of the Return is merely the culmination of mating; often times, Terkati will have grownup alongside their potential mates and have already been close friends with several of them; intimate friendships, thus, often develop into the intimate coupling that comes about that night.

It's a very short covering of fur. It gets a bit fluffy in places, but it's fur. Hir actual skintone is a few shades darker.

Oh this is gonna be so cool.
I would imagine in the distant future, our high school or college biology classes might be taught featuring otherworldly creatures like the Terkati (and hopefully ones just as cute too). You’d make a great writer and illustrator for those eventual textbooks Mukat.

I would think so; it would be a necessary of at least college-level biology to understand the physiology of alien races, especially if regular contact were maintained. The average person would need to know how to perform first aid, and doing so requires a working knowledge of how we're put together. We sort of innately know that as human beings, but for another species? We'd need a bit of education first before we should even try.

Looks very interesting. I got a few questions now:
What is their usual range of height?
What is their natural predators?
Did anything happen on the exploratory mission that is worth mentioning?

Range of height generally runs from 3' 2" to 3' 9". As for the other two questions, I can't quite think of enough examples to really describe their predators, but there are plenty of large carnivores that could potentially harm them.
As far as the mission... well, I might have to tell that story, someday. ^^

Wow, very informative. That Terkati’s intimidation tactic is way fierce.
I was just wondering Mukat, would you say that their tail’s length is about half of their height... or some other proportion?

About half their height sounds about right, yes. That's generally how I try to draw it. And they can be quite intimidating, for something as small as they are.

I am not sure if it was mentioned, but are Terkati immune to their own toxins?

They're pretty resistant to it, though it can sting quite a bit if one scratches another severely, and leave the area around the cut numb for a short time. But otherwise, they feel no ill effects from the toxin.

Wow, what an amazing cross-section.
Got a question: during childbirth, is it known or not if the Terkati run the risk of possible dying during the process just as us humans often did in older times? Is there a high mortality rate there?
It was also mentioned that it is “biologically difficult” for a Terkati to accidently self-impregnate, but if by chance this does happen to occur in those time periods of overlap in the cycles, would this be considered a form of inbreeding and cause the child to suffer from birth defects? Is it known or not if their genetics work like that?

There is a fairly high incident of death during childbirth. Due to the rapid breeding of Terkati, and the sheer number of children a family may have, this doesn't seem to put much of a dent in population growth. But the morality rate during childbirth is considerably higher than among humans.
Self-impregnation does seem to cause a higher incidence of birth defects, though the actual genetics of this have only begun to be studied. Socially, while the act of self-impregnation is frowned upon and considered shameful (the notion of producing children without the support structure of the family/clan is very against the grain of Terkati social structure), the offspring produced by this process are generally adopted by the clan as a means of protecting them. These children are-- usually because of physical or mental disabilities caused by inbreeding-- generally prohibited from hunting and live out their lives as gatherers, prohibited from participating in mating rituals.
Which seems harsh, and exceptionally cruel to us, but this is unfortunately a byproduct of the survival-oriented mentality of the Terkati.

They are very curious about us, so they will often not hesitate to approach humans when they see us.

If you were seven inches tall? It depends. They might think of you as prey; in which case it might end badly for you, as they'd probably chew you apart to get at the meat on your body. It's only very small prey, like rodents, they can swallow whole.
They might also see you as a plaything, or a pet. It mostly just depends on how you act around them.

We will discuss rituals and behaviors concerning death in the near future, but in short: widowed Terkati will usually skip one mating cycle in mourning for their loved one, but they can and do take a new mate. The loss of a mate is a very significant event, though, and a widowed Terkati will often visit the burial site of their deceased mate for the rest of their life, so long as they are able.
