Eko stopped, leaning up against the wall beside him as he checked his location on his phone. He was several feet down the winding maze of Iriyana's intestine, with no end in sight. Of course, when he could see maybe a few inches in front of him from the camera light, that wasn't really saying much.

"Where exactly is the exit?" He wiped the sweat from his forehead, taking a deep breath. The further on he went, the heavier each breath felt.

Iriyana's voice crackled to life in his ear."A long way ahead. I have a lot of piping in there-- you're going to be wading your way along for some distance before you come to the initial filters."

He blinked. "Filters?"

"Right, filters. Teidesriel don't have a solid waste system... everything that goes into our stomachs is completely liquefied before being forced into the intestine."

Eko looked back over his shoulder, thinking for a moment about what would have happened if they lived in Iriyana's natural environment. The naga was gentle and sweet, hardly the fierce predator her species were thought of us. It was hard to imagine her hunting him down. She was designed for it, though; designed to spring and bolt at him, obscured by dense woods. Jaws designed to lock tight, throat muscles built to crush any ability to fight back. If he were her prey, her food, her stomach would break him down into a liquid slury that it would push onwards into this passage to be drained of nutrients.

Thankfully, the liquid surrounding him was only water, meant to keep the naga hydrated while he was exploring her insides for his thesis.

"So, the end of you intestines goes right into the kidneys?"

"Exactly. Now, I\'m going to inject myself with a medicine to dilate the passages so you can get through. Hence while you\'re almost waist deep in water." He could hear her take a deep breath over the headset, the sound of her inhaling making a hissing sound over the speaker. "You might need to make some small incisions to navigate through the kidneys, but I should be able to handle it."

He hadn't considered that; this was live flesh and blood around him. Anything he did would cause a response. Even just walking through her, his feet-- essentially bare except for the protection of his wetsuit-- registering a response in her nervous system with each step. "Are you sure?"

"I'm a big girl, Eko. I'll be fine. I've prepared some basic medication, just to be safe."

He nodded and pushes back off the wall, water splashing around him as he sank back down into the channel at the center of the tube. "Alright then. Onwards we go!"
