Realising that running is futile, and with nothing left to lose, Dashie takes a chance and tries to catch Greta off guard with a buck that would do AJ proud!
Unfortunately, even caught off guard the formel is no slouch. And that buck seems to have put Dashie in an even worse position than before...

An admirable attempt but ultimately futile

Why do I feel like a special anon from derpibooru had something to do with this part...
Posted by DoesNotExist 9 years ago Report
In the interests of full disclosure the repeated references to bucking DID give me the idea, but it's not actually meant to be done maliciously. It felt right, and gives us a nice lead into the next page.

Like i had said before, the comic has had this hostile undertone to it the entire time. And this part definitely has that feeling to it.
Ultimately it does feel like it was done maliciously. A 'prove em wrong' kinda thing. Would definitely say i don't think it works at all. Greta jsut pulls martial arts moves out of nowhere like that. Just not buying it.
It also makes me think raibnow dash would have beat the shit outta greta at the very eginning. as supposedly tired as she is now, was able to do that buck.......
yeah feel the addition of this just brings up old arguments here.

Can't handle that your waifu Dash is prey eh?
Posted by thorondraco 9 years ago Report
that is very presumptuous dude.
Posted by Rothar 9 years ago Report
Well when you choose a side in this (and say rainbow dash would be able to beat greta when really none of us can know) then yeah. You sound rather salty that dash is prey and completely defenceless.

I really don't think Greta is stronger, and if this were a fair fight Dash would almost certainly win. The only reason I say 'almost' is because I'm not really sure what capability griffons have in terms of taking punishment and the like.
But the whole point here is that it's NOT a fair fight. The idea was to emulate a cat toying with its prey. So Dash isn't supposed to be in fighting shape.
Also as far as strongest pony... Maud can literally pummel solid rock into gravel with her bare hooves. I think she probably edges out Dash on that front at least :p

Hmm, you have a good point about the damage dealing, though Dash was shocked speechless by Maud's ability to lob a boulder and make what at least visually appeared to be a comparable mushroom cloud. As to how much damage it did is unknown, since it was too far away to see. Then again Maude and the rest of the Pie family struggled to lift Holder's Boulder up a hill, and Dash wound up with a broken wing after a bad crash...
Sometimes I think trying to guage character abilities is kind of pointless, considering how inconsistent the show can be about that sort of thing.

She's been acting more like Fluttershy the whole time... this sudden return to Dash-type fighting feels unnatural with what's gone on.
That's why I surmised Dash was only mock-resisting the whole time. It didn't seem like she was really trying very hard.
As I've noted, I see things as stories, and story structure and characterization is something I know very well.

Dude, it didn't have any malicious intent, it's just you and your ridiculous behavior. What are you trying to achieve with all these nonsensical comments and bullshitting the artist?
If I were him, I would also consider doing something to anger you at this point... the difference is that I wouldn't be limited to non-gory ways and then you'd see the true extent of what becoming prey means.

You can think what you like, but I've already explained why this is in here. I will say, though, if I were doing this maliciously to try and 'prove you wrong' and make ponies seem pathetic as you claim, I sure as hell wouldn't have made Greta look as shocked as she does here. She'd have a smirk, or look bored as hell, or something along those lines.
As for 'martial arts moves out of nowhere'... She leaned slightly to dodge a kick then grabbed the very obvious leg that was easily in range. Considering that Dash had to spin around AND wind up the kick, you really think it's so impossible for someone to dodge a kick like that?
Posted by silverspec 9 years ago Report
Run Dash, run~
Posted by DoesNotExist 9 years ago Report
Hard to run when someone's holding your leg up in the air!
Posted by Rubiont-47 9 years ago Report
It looks like someone has never seen how a horse can kick. But good comics sketch.
Posted by ViperBits 9 years ago Report
Do keep in mind that Dash was sitting on the ground and had to get up, turn around and rear up the leg before she could deliver the kick. Seeing as in her mental condition she is likely to have skipped the aiming phase (as craning her head backwards to see if the target is still properly aligned would take a lot of time), Greta would easily dodge the kick and then grab the hoof once it's past full extension since equines lack powerful muscles when it comes to retracting their legs back.

Hey, I spent a lot of time around horses and ponies when I was younger, and when they're angry they are scary as hell. Only reason Greta's still in a shape to continue is because she dodged, thanks to the time it took Dash to spin.

Thing is, Dash isn't a real horse. She's a magical flying pony, and not one that's been shown to act much like a real horse when startled.

I like Greta's "You wut mate?" expression.
Posted by charlesdeleroy 9 years ago Report
Well, Dash is doomed.
Not that any of us thought she'd have a chance.
Kinda why I prefer willing vore much of the time. You still know the outcome from the start, but there's no obviously false pretense of escape.
