> Investigate the wagon

Curious about it, you go and ask one of the soldiers about the wagon. However, your inquiries are met with either silence or assurances that it's nothing for you to worry about. Frustrated, you head to the barracks to go ask Marcus about it.

Inside, you suddenly realize you're interrupting what appears to be an important meeting.

"Who is this?" An important looking man is sitting at the desk with Marcus. He appears to be human, but he is very pale. "Do you usually allow civilians to barge in like this? Looking at her though... She appears to be some sort of adventurer." He turns back to Marcus. "Is this the girl you were speaking of earlier? Floria, was it?"

"Yes sir." Marcus nods to him. "Floria, come here." You nod and step towards the desk. "This is Commander Caskel Weaver. He is in charge of all military actions here on the mainland. He has been ordered to investigate the cloaked man by the Council."

You realize how important this man must be and greet him politely, introducing yourself. "It is good to meet you, Miss Floria. But I'm afraid we have little time for pleasantries." He has a serious look on his face. "We need to move on the brigand's base soon while we still have light. Will you be assisting?" You nod to him, quickly explaining that Myla was captured by the bandits. "Very well. I've worked with you adventurers in the past, and I know it is best to allow you to work freely. I will quickly fill you in on our plan though, should you decide to support us." He stands up, pointing towards the door. "You likely noticed the wagon. We brought a more advanced suit of Siege Armor with us. Captain Marcus will be piloting it. He's one of the few men avaliable who know how to use it. It will be primarily a backup though. Our main forces will advance through the main gate. We did some scouting and found a few other paths into the fortress as well. One on the east side, and one to the north. Additional forces will flank the enemy through those paths." He looks at you. "Our scouts did not report anything that looked like prisoners, but there is a large building in the center of the fortress. That is most likely where they would have your friend." He turns back to Marcus. "Prepare to move out. Remember, we must capture as many of the brigands as possible. The information they may carry is of great value."

With that, the commander leaves the barracks. "Floria, you don't have to put yourself in danger." Marcus speaks to you as he stands, moving towards the door. "We can handle this. If you must come along, don't push yourself. You've done enough for us. We will get Myla back for you." He stops for a moment before the door. "Though... me saying that isn't going to stop you, is it?" You shake your head and give him a smile. You almost seem to see a smile from him as well. "Very well. I just hope that we don't need to use the Armor." You walk out with him and meet up with the soldiers.

Within a few minutes, the group is heading out of Malor. It is a decent sized force. You'd say there are about twenty to twenty-five soldiers of varying races. Along the way, you continue to work on teaching Bluebell more words. You manage to teach her important ones like "Yes" and "No". You also attempt to teach her "Ally" as someone who she shouldn't try to eat, but also not hug. She ends up hugging a few of the soldiers anyway, which they don't seem to mind too much.

As the sun begins to set, you see the fortress a short ways ahead. It's unlikely that the bandits are unaware of your presence. A few more minutes of preparation, and the soldiers move out, beginning their attack. The majority rush the main gate, while a couple small groups move to the north and east.

You must now decide what you wish to do. Do you join the main force, or perhaps take a side route? Flying in is also an option, but you would have to leave Garrett behind. And you always have the ability to simply wait and hope that the soldiers can take care of everything.

See, last time we did it we were being backed up by untrustworthy bandits.

Now we have trusty soldiers.

neversurrender21

true but still a leroy jenkins tactic is a bad one to go by unless you're a straight up badass....which floria isnt even close to

RumiBelly

It's super tactical, while the bandits are busy looting our corpse the soldiers can get the drop on them.

Thagrahn

North, East, and South...

We shouldn't leave Garrett, so join the group attacking from the east. Save our flight ability as a surprise to take the high ground once the fighting really gets going.

Take a side route and try to sneak inside to get Myla out

Sergit

Posted by Sergit 8 years ago Report

Can we go faster than the rest of the troops with Garret? If so, Floria, Blueball and Garret go on an advanced trip faster than the other soldiers, but through a side route. Let's see if we can infiltrate the prison building. If we are spotted, we draw the sentries and guards towards us and fight, giving the other soldiers an easier time barging in. Otherwise, proceed stealthily.

Cococado

Posted by Cococado 8 years ago Report

We only have 4(5) agility we probably move as a fast as your general untrained runner with loads of talent. The move speed might not be the best, but we got flight, NO ONE EXPECTS THE BIRB RAID.

Sergit

Posted by Sergit 8 years ago Report

We can ride Garret, can't we?

Jondo

Posted by Jondo 8 years ago Report

If we were going to do the stealth approach, our best bet imo would be waiting till both sides engage then using the distraction to fly over the walls. I'm not too sure stealth would be such a good option though. One of our companions is a centaur, and as hilarious as a stealthy centaur would be, something tells me Garrett wouldn't be good at it. The other would probably try to hug the first bandit we come across.

neversurrender21

Posted by neversurrender21 8 years ago Report

well make sure there arent any archers first then fly over the base to survey.

neversurrender21

Posted by neversurrender21 8 years ago Report

stealth is probably the best way to go though

Jondo

Posted by Jondo 8 years ago Report

Dat little pot belly.

Obviously we join the fight. We would have more of an impact on one of the flanks. The bandits main focus will most likely be on the main force, and fewer enemies might give us the opportunity to disengage, snag Myla, and continue the fight. Fewer allies also means less friendly fire for Stone grenades.

Is Floria or Bluebell strong enough to pick up a bandit and drop them from from 20-30 feet up?

Rayen

Posted by Rayen 8 years ago Report

Any harpy can pick up an average person for a while. We could probably carry someone like Myla for about 30 minutes or something before needing a rest.

We probably can't lift something big like Garrett though. :V

But we have the power of friendship/teamwork i.e. two harpies

RavenXeo

Leave Garrett with the rear forces so that he stays safe then scout out the battle from the air, see if we can pick off Edris OR whoever has our super awesome axe and remember to retreat immediatly if we see that goddamn crossbow.

DeityV

Posted by DeityV 8 years ago Report

Yeah, lets not strand Garrett. I say both Floria and Bluebell ride Garrett (If we can) and take a side route. We can attack from three angles when confronted by having Floria and Bluebell fly in different directions while Garrett continues the charge.

Kartomic

Posted by Kartomic 8 years ago Report

Have Bluebell take to the skies, and hit them from above. Floria rides on Garrett, slinging spells and also becoming airborn when needed. If we're looking to do things non-lethally, we could always pick them up, fly them 20 feet into the air, and drop them so they break their legs. Or is that a bit too harsh?

Also, is seige armor anything like power armor from fallout?

Rayen

Posted by Rayen 8 years ago Report

Somewhat similar. You'll probably get to see it in a few updates.

Moxx

Posted by Moxx 8 years ago Report

The thieves already know the soldiers are coming, since we told them a while ago.

Edris already expected to not be able to hold the fortress, so she almost certainly has her own escape route planned.

Is the main force attacking from the south or the west? It's not specified in the update, but digging into past updates, we headed north to the fortress last time, so would be entering from the south.

The easy escape would be directly away from the main attack, but that would also be the most predictable. The soldiers will almost certainly set up their forces to have the strongest secondary defense on the north side, though they'd have to pass the east side first.

So if Edris escapes immediately, she should head north. But if she stays and fights for any amount of time, for any reason, then her best escape would be to the east.

Thus we should go in from the east, while encouraging the soldiers to move as many troops to the north exit as possible, to make the east appear to be the weakest point in the assault.

Meanwhile, have Bluebell stay with Garrett and move in from the east, while Floria gets an eagle's eye view of movement within the fortress. If there's a push for escape, head back and direct Garrett and Bluebell to follow, and chase after them (should have massive speed edge, between flying and centaur). If not, then return to them and make a hard push to break through their defenses with just the small team, and get inside to find Myla.

Am expecting Myla to have been mem-wiped with potions by now, which means we'll have to fight her. Do we have any means to subdue her? Is there a gladiator net we can have Garrett carry? Probably won't be handy, but something along those lines would be good to have accessible.

Begin air bombing picking off defenders 1 at a time and try to find Edris

joe354

I say we take everyone on the side route. That way we can deal damage from inside before having Bluebell and Garret join the rest of the army while we go and find Myla and, if lucky, Edirs.

YesImCanadian

Damn, was hoping we could ask the doctor about transformation before we left. Oh well, we'll just have to ask him when we get back.

We should scout the aim and see what side needs the most help. If none look like they need help, lets hit the east side.

Garrett is a rifleman err...taur...we should situate him on a nearby hill to try to pick off the enemies.

Bluebell and us should try to do a few dive bombs before hitting them with fire attacks. NO GRENADES. We don't want to hit our allies.

Once the soldiers have an opening, we get Garrett and look for Myla.

Shadowlyger

Posted by Shadowlyger 8 years ago Report

Send Garrett in with the soldiers, while Bluebell comes with us for some Death From Above on the bandits' back line. Throw some spells, perhaps pick some of them up and toss them off the battlements.

RumiBelly

nothing worse than waiting (also nothing safer)
Always stay just one step ahead of the soldiers so you can fall back if needed.
Is wearing siege armor in this going to be like wearing a red shirt in startrek? (I care more if the captain dies then if myla does)
Was one of those soldiers Birb Mom Bluebell hugged, trying to get her to join a flame tomb cult?

paltiel

Posted by paltiel 8 years ago Report

Mages and thieves should never attack head-on. Always flank. Here's a vote to take one of the side routes. I'm leaning towards the eastern approach. Definitely stick with Garrett.
Also, ask Marcus if he can loan us a communicator. Plan on being roped into aerial reconnaissance.

Lastly, see if we can find a weapon that can safely knock someone out. We may have to subdue an amnesiac wolfkin. v_v (Kudos to Moxx for voicing this.)

A night raid can aid with hiding but also means we cannot see as well either. Be cautious for bandits who wait to ambush us. They could simply "let in" the troops and start picking us off. Scouting only works if the scout does not get caught. I am not confident with our stealth compared to the oponents who do know we are coming, well the soldiers anyways. I propose that we join the assault with the group. There is no use going into the fortress alone because we would be killed too easily. If Eldris is still inside I would be surprised. Same goes for Myla, I fear that she may be one of three conditions. Dead, caged as a slave, or feral war hound.
May steel line thy path.

Gutsman25

I think Myla has a very good chance at life here. Edris knows that the guards are coming and needs a bargining chip. She also may feel indebted to Myla for sparring her while she was inconcious. The bandits will still hate her for Nysk, so they may beat her up a bit. However, they won't force feed her any potions due to the fact that they want her to suffer as much as possible. They won't take anything too far due to the fact they knew Myla's previous employer, Konic, was sick with an obscure disease. They may avoid too much physical contact out of fear of infection (they are probably not as educated on the disease as the doctor is). They might have her caged, because they realize how good of a prize she might be. But I am sure that she is alive.

HOnestly, I feel like having Garret stay with the main rear group and acting as ranged support is the best option for him right now. This is his first real experience in combat and keeping him around others and as a ranged unit is going to be key to keeping him from panicking

Also, I feel moving with the main group is the best play here. Mingle with the soldiers, we've got the element of surprise with us since no one else knows we're now a harpy. Stay with the soldiers and then weave through the bandits to cut deep inside of the fortress.

Push comes to shove, we can take to the air and infiltrate the fortress via an air route later.

side route, behind soldiers, peeling off for prison once inside, and soldiers have occupied main bandit forces

AnominableBreadman

Posted by AnominableBreadman 8 years ago Report

It is possible that the bandits may have noticed a couple of harpies when Floria and Bluebell flew to Malor, so there may be the risk that they might anticipate a harpy and thus fire upon us, even so we have to know if Myla is okay, we should fly around the fortress, away enough to avoid being fired upon, if there is by chance an open window in the fortress that is high enough, only fly to it if Floria is absolutely sure that all the bandits, including possible archers, are completely preoccupied with the soldiers. If we do manage to perch ourselves in one of the windows, if there are any, and take a quick look for Myla before taking off and return to the allied army. If we do manage to find Myla, and if she is not in a cage, don't ask questions, just grab her and fly back to the army, which could be made easier if she brought bluebell with her.

Havoc

Posted by Havoc 8 years ago Report

Go in the North route, most of the forces will be drawn away to the main gate, and should provide easy access to the keep ( if my memory of how sieges work is anything to go by )

Stunlocked

Posted by Stunlocked 8 years ago Report

Are there harpies in the nearby area where the thieves live? They might have defense mechanisms against them.

Sarethas

Posted by Sarethas 8 years ago Report

So, my suggestion for this encounter, is have Garret, if he can get a rifle, stay near the back of the main group. The bandits will primarily defend from the front, and they'll probably be manning the walls for leverage, so he should be able to help pin them down and keep them from doing as much damage before the soldiers can get in.

Meanwhile, we fly up with Bluebell, and do a quick scout. If we don't see that crazy crossbow, then we can swoop down on the bandit guards on one of the side routes, synchronized dive, snatch two guards, fly them forward over the wall about thirty feet, and drop them a bit before the guards. Enough so that the guards can pin them before they can recover. Once we up and away, we can start looking for Edris to start fleeing, potentially with Myla in tow as a last-ditch bargaining chip.

Fly above the fortress and decide from up there. Maybe pick up some lone bandit and drop him in front of the soldiers.

And why do I get this "Your princess is in another castle" feeling.^^

davidargall

Posted by davidargall 8 years ago Report

I usually plot too far ahead. So this time I don't, and the plot roars ahead full speed. Ah well, to catch up...
To repeat... Remind the high command that the bandits are acting very strangely. They normally just run away and come back when it is safe, which is rarely long. Standing and fighting superior forces is crazy when the normal "reward" is even more superior forces attacking. Of course these may be stupid bandits, but it could be that they do have some powerful secret weapon. So be careful...
If that is the "ancient" we ran into, maybe we should bargain. We take the bandits and stay away thereafter? Might suit his whims. Anyway, give the idea some thought.
At the fort we will scout. nothing close. Just being a couple of harpies flying "casually" out of missile range. The bandits may be alert since one was breakfast today, but there is no reason to think we are scouts. So we can't learn much, but can learn a few things, like whether there is much difference between the East and North exits, about how many bandits, anything suspicious...
Report back to the commander and then join the East or North party based on which looks easier, closer? to Myla, gives tactical advantage... Flo will likely land on wall and continue casting spells until we have broken the resistance.
The tactical situation will decide from there. If the East/North exit is still in bandit hands, rush over to hit those bandits from behind . If bandits are holding main gate, consider trying to hit their main force from the rear. If bandits are trying to retreat to main building, try to block them.
Do not try to rescue Myla right away. We don't know where she is for starters. She is also likely "safe" at the moment as the bandits have other things to do than bother with her. ]
There is a distinct chance we will end up with Edris standing over a helpless Myla, threatening to kill her if we don't let her go. Do Not try anything in that case. Just talk and wait. Eventually, she will realize there is no escape and will surrender. We may have to make some promises to get Myla out of there unhurt, but we have all the bargaining chips. It may take time, but it works. Some heroic "bright" idea always have a chance of going messily wrong and that is Myla's life we are risking.

Join the force: Protected by soldiers. Vulnerable to anything the bandits would use to eliminate groups (explosives, ambush, etc.)

Side route: Not as vulnerable to group attacks and harder to detect. No back up from soldiers if we get caught

Flight: Easy and quick infiltration. Vulnerable to archers(trust me I play Fire Emblem) and we have to leave Garret behind (unless we carry him like in Fire Emblem)

Wait: Not vulnerable to any immediate attack. If soldiers fail we are severely vulnerable and out numbered. I also imagine that siege armour (I'm kind of new and don't know exactly what siege armour is) is very powerful and likely to decimate the fortress (risking Myla's life)

I could be missing something but those are what I think the important pros and cons of each option are
