Adventure RPG What If? #2: What if we took our chance to attack the deergirl and lamia after they ambushed us?
This is an alternate version of Adventure RPG 2-123: http://aryion.com/g4/view/349098
> Fight back
With everyone distracted, you quickly start casting a couple spells. You let loose a Flash, sending a blinding light around the area. The two ambushers flinch at the light, giving you just enough time to cast another spell.
You quickly cast a Stone Shield underneath the lamia, hoping that it will knock her over enough that she might release Bluebell. The spell triggers, and a solid stone form suddenly rises up from under the snake woman, causing her to lose her balance somewhat. However, it's not enough to free the feral, as the lamia only tightens her coils as she tumbles over.
You don't have enough time to cast again before the deergirl is upon you. She trips you up with her spear, knocking you to the grass. In one quick movement, she jumps on top of you, pinning you down with her spear. "You foolish girl! There's no need for this sort of violence. I won't give you another warning, now just answer my-" She stops mid-sentence when the both of you hear Bluebell make a panicked chirp before suddenly getting muffled.
The lamia has already swallowed her head, and is quickly gulping the harpy down as she struggles to try and get free. However, the woman's grip is strong and easily keeps the feral under control, steadily sliding Bluebell's body down her throat. You don't wait hesitate any further. You quickly cast an Ember spell to get the deergirl off of you, the fire blasting her off.
"Gah..!" She tumbles away from you, landing with a thud. "Wait, stop this at once!" You ignore her and take flight, charging up another Ember, ready to throw it at the lamia. Even if she fully swallows Bluebell, you can still free her if you manage to knock her out. Looking down, she's already got the feral about halfway down. You cast again, aiming your spell in a way that won't harm the harpy.
The spell connects, and while the lamia certainly felt it, she doesn't release Bluebell. Within a few more seconds, and with one final gulp, the harpy disappears from view as you are able to see her form slide down the lamia's body and into her long tail. You refuse to see her take Bluebell like that, and start getting ready to cast again. The deergirl doesn't seem to have any ranged weaponry, so you feel like you can ignore her for now.
However, no longer distracted by coiling up Bluebell, the lamia's hands start to glow, and you quickly realize that she's also a mage. She quickly throws some bolts of sharp ice toward you, though you manage to dodge them. You can't keep this up forever though. You're already getting a little tired from trying to focus so much on spellcasting.
There's a short break in the lamia's spellcasting, so you take the chance to land on a tree. You're a fair distance from them now, and you hear the deergirl saying something to the lamia, though it's difficult to make out. The snake woman doesn't seem to be paying too much attention to her though, still looking straight at you. You can still see Bluebell's squirming form in her tail, and you know that you can't afford to take too long. You recover a little bit of your energy and start preparing to cast again.
Flying back closer, you throw a Rock Bomb down at the two. The deergirl quickly leaps out of the blast radius, though it looks like you got a decent hit on the snake. She's starting to look a little roughed up, but begins casting again. More bolts of ice fly at you, but this time much faster. You try your best to avoid them, but are hit a couple times. The impact throws you off balance, and you struggle to maintain flight. You land roughly a short distance from the two.
You quickly steady yourself, turning back toward the two just in time to get struck with another ice spell. The cold energy freezes your talons in place, rooting you to the ground! You can see the lamia quickly moving towards you, her hands still glowing with magic. You react quickly, casting a flame spell to quickly free yourself from your bindings. It only takes a few seconds, and once freed, you take a few steps back, ready to cast again before the lamia reaches you.
She casts again, more icebolts which slam into you, knocking you over. Within moments, she's upon you, quickly grabbing you up and coiling her tail around you. She squeezes tightly, knocking the breath out of you for a moment before she relaxes once more. You gasp for a few moments before being able to attempt another cast. However, you stop once you look up, seeing her hand in front of you, brightly glowing with magic. There's no way you'd be able to get a cast off before here now.
"That's enough!" The deergirl calls out as she approaches. "You will answer my questions. Do so and we'll release your friend. There has been no need for this nonsense."
You hesitate for a moment, not sure what options you have left. "We're wasting our time here." The lamia finally speaks, her voice in a very serious tone. "If we let her go, then we will run into trouble later. We'd be better off investigating ourselves than questioning others."
"We have no reason to harm her further if she cooperates." The deergirl replies. "If you keep this-"
"And when we go to Erada, what if we meet her there?" The snake interrupts her. "Do you think she will just forgive and forget? We should have never gone with this plan, and I intend to ensure that we don't endanger our mission." Saying that, she squeezes you again, making it harder to breathe. You can feel a bulge in her tail where Bluebell is. She's already been pushed far inside. You're worried that you won't get a chance to save her at this rate...
"Harming innocents is not part of our- Wait, stop!" As the deergirl calls out, your head is suddenly enveloped by the lamia's maw. As she starts to loosen up her coils your body starts to quickly slide down as you feel her throat swallow you further down. You thrash about, but the snake proves much stronger than you. You can hear some muffled yelling from outside, from what you assume to be the deergirl. Despite your struggles, you descend quickly into the damp innards of the lamia, the tight walls pushing against you. After a few more moments, you feel your talons get swallowed up.
Sliding further down, you quickly come to rest in her tail, already feeling the effects of her stomach. You see no sign of Bluebell, and have to assume that she's deeper within. Not wanting to give up, you start attempting to cast more Ember spells. It's the only thing you can think of at the moment. You cast it, trying to burn the lamia from within. However, the pressure from the walls makes it hard to focus, and you don't have much of an effect. You're already starting to become exhausted, either from your attempted casting, or from the lamia's body draining your energy from you.
Before long, you end up too weak to struggle. Your body starts to soften as the walls continue to push you deeper down. You can hear the sounds of her stomach as it gurgles and churns, attempting to melt your body down. Your clothing is the first to go, the fabric falling apart against the warm flesh. With how quickly the process is happening, you worry that Bluebell may already have succumbed. After some minutes, you start to lose feeling in your limbs as they are steadily reduced to liquid. It's scary, but at the same time, you feel strangely calm. You start to have trouble staying awake as the last of your energy is pulled from you, and after a few more minutes of this, you pass out.
...
The bulges of the two harpies within the lamia's long tail eventually lose form and start to shrink down. "I did what was needed. They weren't going to cooperate." The lamia crosses her arms, looking at the deergirl.
"You antagonized them!" The deergirl sounds angry. "You were the one who chose to do this ambush, yet in the end, all we accomplished were two unnecessary deaths!" She sighs, pausing for a moment. "We need to leave. They'll be looking for these two soon. We'll have to find our answers elsewhere."
The two head off into the forest.
The spirit of adventure leaves you...
-----
And our first Bad End comes in a What If. There were two possible results of this.
This is the result of if we had kept fighting to try and recover Bluebell. If we had left and attempted to get help, the two would have disappeared, and we would have lost Bluebell.
Floria did a decent job though. The lamia was fairly injured, and there wouldn't have been much that the deergirl would have been able to do if Floria stayed out of reach. Though it seems like she didn't really intend to cause harm to her in the first place. :V

Well, that settles that: Follow Elykae's wishes and don't party invite the blue snek.
It's uncomfortable to write, but we don't want another violent hot-head like Myla.
Posted by paltiel 8 years ago Report
Thank you for the triple update, too!!
Posted by YesImCanadian 8 years ago Report
I tend to agree with a lot of what you say. The lamia is quite forceful and can understand why Elykae wouldn't want to be partnered up with her. She equal to, if not more forceful and hot-headed than Myla
I't would be interesting if Floria went to sleep and got these "what if" dreams.
Posted by TotallyRandom 8 years ago Report
She would be a greate partner for Tassri though.
The idea with dreaming these 'what if' scenarios is interesting. It would solve the problem of players knowing and basing decisions on these, but the PC has to act somewhat clueless.

Wouldn't that be meta-gaming? Floria doesn't know anything about this hypothetical situation
Posted by paltiel 8 years ago Report
Yes.. but I have no shame in meta-gaming. The name of the game is survival, and using any information available to accomplish that! ^-^
In my head-canon at least, these are all just Floria's dreams. She's been shown to be clairvoyant, so why not toss post-cognitive realization into her bag of tricks, as well? ^_~

I approve.

Possibly, the dream with Tassri could've been a test Side Story if we're going by this logic, no? :3

no deerpred? aww. I guess lamia full of birb is good enough tho :U
Posted by Sergit 8 years ago Report
Yeah, this comes at the right oment to help us decide that Snek is not worth a spot in our party.
I can totally see her teaming up with Myla and they both bickering about what the party should do at all points.
Still, this is a lot of panels! The Naga vore is very nice too! I hope we don't get an ending like this, but if it happens, it will be nice to have so many panels! :3

The way of a mage duel. The winner eats the looser. Also Floria would have trouble eating the lamia, if she had won. To be fair the lamia is probably at a higher level than Floria. Time to train more in spell-casting.
Off-topic: The next 'What If?' should be further in the past. The information about the lamia feels a bit rushed and player reaction will now be biased, when we encounter her.
Posted by YesImCanadian 8 years ago Report
Elykae already told us that she didn't like working with her due to her forceful nature, so it's not reviewing that much information. However I understand where your coming from. It would have been better if we had met the lamia in Erada and met her our selves.

This is what happens if ya go "FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!" 100% of the time. *Sighs*
Ya get game overs.
Posted by FaceInCrowd42 8 years ago Report
Hey, it's perfectly fine as long as you can reload a save.
...Which you can't in this game, so bullet dodged eh?

Yeah more of these would be good

Knew she'd swallow her if we attacked. Glad I said not to!

Well while I do like getting to see more vore I'd prefer it to not be at the cost of our main and flood birb XP. Even if I do like sneks haha so I enjoy what I'm seeing but wow elykae wasn't kidding they seem to be a terrible team. Makes me curious how a confrontation between her and Tassri would go? Considering this Lamias attitude I find it hard to believe they'd get along....not to mention wouldn't mind giving Tassri a noodle haha actually wondering if she could take her all in.
But yeah this one makes Tassri look a lot better in my opinion even if I do like the sneks we can always befriend or invite a different one to our party.
This actually makes me wonder, I think if elykae sees her again she might actually be hostile to elykae like maybe thinks she's compromised etc etc they aren't a good team and seeing her use of "I did what was necessary" excuse (lol I'll have to tell vice tonise this excuse its foolproof XD) makes me think she isn't above killing or eating her own.

I agree with you on Tassri.
If we ask around, we might be able to find the Lamia from the magic shop. If my assumption about her is correct and she left the dark skinned elf, then she might be looking for something to do (in terms of work).
If we manage to find and recruit her, we'll have 2 full mages in the party (not counting Floria as she doesn't know that much about magic). The only thing that concerns me (should she join) is how well sh'll get along with Tassri.
Posted by Xinless 8 years ago Report
I would be more worried how she gets along with our whole party lol I doubt she would.
Posted by Xinless 8 years ago Report
Ohh whoops you're talking about the other one haha yeah she seemed much better xD

This update while enjoyable does indicate a small problem with party dynamics, is it possible to have full party encounters without having one side having to be outright crippled or magicked?
Posted by KingNothing 8 years ago Report
Yeah. There were two major battles where that happened.

That fourth panel is just so great, in my opinion
