I tried to make them as cutesy and cartoonish as possible as the black little squiggly of the spiders was kinda hard to carry across what they were.

Yeah I find though that the cartoonish spiders would be less horrific :P. Its the fact they skitter and act unpredictably that trigger my arachanphobia. If they all came in wearing chef hats and asking you how your day was their a bit less terrifying. Granted, if one landed on my arm without saying anything...
I'd honestly be more terrified of injuring one of the things by sitting or stepping on it. A mad muffet is like the lavos scene from chrono trigger emerging from the ground with billowing lava and meteorites.

Technically related loosely. People in Cambodia however eat tarantulas and the like, so their least edible, though I'm betting a "tastes like chicken" analog.
