Anytime Obsidia goes to rest in a large body of water, the temperature begins heating up quite a bit and it often draws the local populace to the location for an extremely relaxing, if somewhat dangerous, time. She can spends weeks just lounging in the waters, but just as with everything else, her presence requires sacrifice.
Plus, mermaid populations in the area tend to plummet as well as she snacks between large scale visits.
(For a bit of clarity, her internals have a soft warm glow which was difficult to portray in grayscale like this)
