Basically anything that isn't male or female. For example, someone might identify as gender neutral, or they might be a hermaphrodite and have both sets of genitals.

I'm sure someone else could explain much better, as from what I've heard there's way more to NB than those two things.

And this is why I don't bother talking about it very often, I'm always getting things wrong because terms have been replaced. What was wrong with 'hermaphrodite'? Was the core definition of the word inaccurate?

If somebody identifies as non-binary, it essentially means they don't identify a man nor woman. It's kind of a catch-all for anybody doesn't have a binary gender identity.

If someone identifies as a man or a woman, they have a binary gender identity.

Typically, nonbinaries use they/them pronouns instead of he or she.
