Before they hit the mouth, they could jump out the windows. The tongue is doing nothing to prevent anyone jumping out. It’s just lifting the house and pulling it into the mouth. A black hole’s gravity can be escaped if you try hard enough. The event horizon in a black hole is a point of no return. A point that it’s impossible to escape it anymore. In your scenario, you said it was too late for them to escape when they were still outside the mouth. With me thinking the mouth being the event horizon, the point of no return, you saying it’s too late would lead to believe the mouth isn’t the event horizon, but the tongue.

Oh I see. I guess I was more relating it to the event horizon around a black hole (because the event horizon is not the black hole itself.) What I meant was that the house was "close enough" to the event horizon being the mouth.
