It's the 40th anniversary of the release of the original Donkey Kong arcade game. To celebrate, I'm continuing the anniversary theme for this round of anniversaries: the classic scenario of the damsel-in-distress devouring her captor before the hero arrives to save her. After all, it's the 40th anniversary of the first time a Nintendo lady, simply called Lady at the time, was abducted. Now, she's known as Pauline, and while she did get captured for a bit during the Mario vs. Donkey Kong era, Super Mario Odyssey introduced her to canon proper in a supporting role. She and Mario aren't together anymore, but the split seems to have been amicable enough, given their friendly interaction in the game. Odyssey also did a great job of expanding Pauline's character and making her quite likeable. No wonder she gets to go to sporting events now!
Now, some of you are probably wondering, " ZeldaNoVorsu, this description seems kind of familiar." Well, dear Audience member, I may have modified my Peach Ate Bowser description for this because I was feeling a bit lazy when it came to describing. You may also wonder why this is a milestone rather than a holiday, just like in that other description, and well, it takes the idea of no Super Mario Bros. or NES back a bit further to without this game, Nintendo might not have gone on to create Super Mario Bros. or the NES. Following that logic, it's possible there would be no Legend of Zelda to one day capture the heart of one
ZeldaNoVorsu, and it's in no small part thanks to Mario that I eventually found Zelda. Thus, it is a Milestone, and we must celebrate!
Also, special thanks to derpsquid42 for helping me brainstorm this idea by sharing an image that helped inspire the story.

Happy to help! An arcade classic, and one of the only ones I got really good at. Pac-man and Galaga were too hard for me.

Good ol' Nintendo. Even back then they were making games that challenged you but were still winnable in the end.

An arcade classic I had no choice but to master because of Donkey Kong 64! (Curse you Rareware! Lol)

It was all part of Nintendo's master plan.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find the source to provide the link. It used to be on Deviant Art though.
