Even though Salem can eat prey many times his size, his capacity is not endless. So as he's busy swallowing his down his most recently caught dragon he makes sure to unload the unwanted remains of the last dragon he encountered.
At least his prey can be happy they weren't given a look of what their future fate will look like.
