Roman Dining By Mouhr -- Report

I had the idea to draw Rita in this type of situation all the way back when I first came up with her but never got to drawing it. I then forgot about it but was reminded of it by a comment made by  jackson22222 on Eka's. So, big thank you to them for reminding me!

I wanted to try my hand at marble this time, and I was really worried it would just end up looking like cracked stone but I think it came out alright. What do you all think?

This drawing was the unanimous winner of the patreon poll this month. Thank you to everyone who voted!

I love this picture and its composition, it is superb art and has so many good qualities to it. It is especially the Greek-Roman style that makes this picture stand out. Rita is the perfect dragon girl to lay on a roman lectus and enjoy human(?) women along with a bunch of grapes.

Another great work!

I appreciate your attention to detail in little things like the glass top of the table and the veins in the marble. It really emphasizes the setting!

Amazing! I am beyond happy that my mentioning the idea reminded you of it and that you decided to draw it, because this looks wonderful!
Looks so elegant and relaxed, casually dining on a few gals, dressed up in their own togas, like the wrapping around a treat.

The one she is holding looks a lot less distressed than the other two, though I imagine she is just trying to stay calm and trying to convince Rita not to enjoy her meal.

I always love seeing you upload your stuff, so to see this is just wonderful. Cheers!

Your texturing is impeccable! Not only the marble, but the glass, the cloth, the.. uh, is that called a couch?
I'll most likely keep your art as reference to teach myself texturing. Any advice? :)

Well, thank you first of all!
As for advice? Real life reference is vital for textures. The most important thing there is to identify the key visuals of the texture or material you're trying to create. For example: Marble has these cracks and is also extremely reflective and shiny (at least most of the time). So it's important to incorporate those things when trying to draw it. As another example: The red fabric on the curtains and lectus (That's the couch), I referenced satin. Satin tends to have soft transitions from light to dark and it's shadows tend to be very deep in colour while it has very bright highlights, especially compared to other fabrics.
I hope this made sense and was helpful at all!

I'm not an artist, so take everything I say with a Dead Sea's worth of salt, but as you were looking for feedback on the marble: I think the two leftmost and rightmost pillars look very good, while the center one has glare that's very far to the right and isn't tapered/blurred/graded very much on edges, which to me makes it look less like glare/shine and more like a vertical white strip daubed onto the column. Otherwise, I think it looks great; imo the cracks being in that characteristic long, narrowly-branching design + the glare & consistent lighting really sells it as marble instead of cracked stone.

The reflections and distortions in the glass of the grape table also look really nice.

Thank you so much for the feedback! I took another look at that center column and you are very right. I don't know how it happened that I blended that one out less. Thanks for pointing it out!
