Execution Day By Cowrie -- Report

The winner of last month's poll. This is another look at my alternate Earth dubbed “Tribble”. In many countries (including the USA), even the smallest of prisons make a point of employing at least one herm guard, with larger facilities typically employing more herms. Herm guards are tasked with regularly impregnating all female convicts; though parthenogenesis could serve to keep them alive, the fact that parthing is initiated by voluntary biofeedback means that relying on that would be inviting the possibility of a prisoner refusing to do so and committing a gradual suicide by hormonal poisoning (known colloquially as “celibacy syndrome”). The children born to imprisoned women are typically either given into the custody of (a) relative(s) or significant other(s) of the mother or, if no such person is available and willing take the children, put in a government-funded crèche group - such groups are quite common on “Tribble”, and are usually much nicer and better provided-for than the group homes involved in the foster system in real life.

The other important role of herm guards is that they act as executioners for prisoners that have been given a death sentence. As humans on “Tribble” have r-Strategy reproduction, life is viewed comparatively cheaply there, and the death penalty is more common and less controversial than in real life. Executions are generally carried out as many as the herm guard(s) employed by a given facility can handle in one sitting, once a month. The guard depicted here has already got three partially digested convicts in her stomach, and another one in each of her testicles.

In many prisons on this world, the clothes provided to inmates are minimal or non-existant, leading towards the standard form of IDing prisoners in modern times being a microchip implanted in the arm. Standard prison uniforms are often little more than a bra and short skirt. Herm prisoners are typically also “collared” around the neck and penis, given a weekly treatment to “seal” their nipples, and made to wear a chastity belt that blocks off access to their vagina to prevent them from eating other inmates - though not all herms are capable of eating people with orifices other than their mouth, it’s simpler to take all standard precautions with every herm inmate. It’s also worth note that prisons there are not segregated by sex - females, hermaphrodites, and the odd male are all housed in the same facilities.

As prisoners sentenced to death are usually made to wear restraints while being fed to a herm guard, most handcuffs and such on this world aren’t made of metal, but rather a composite material that is quite durable under most conditions, but dissolves easily when exposed to herm digestive juices. This is also the case with many commercially available “recreational” bondage devices - and, while the handcuffs used by law enforcement are purely practical, equipment sold for public usage commonly has flavored additives.

Of course, all this is describing the situation in the United States and other first world countries where herms eating people is widely accepted. In some other nations with harsher governments (in general or specifically regarding their treatment of herms) herms may still be used to make sure female inmates don’t allow themselves to die of celibacy syndrome, or even as a means of carrying out executions, but are more likely to be made to work for the prison under duress, or even be inmates themselves.

There's something from the past of this world on my art to do list, plus I have a few other ideas on the list that are generic enough that they could work on Tribble, or end up being in one of my other alternate Earth settings.
