Another returning character, this time there might have actually been some popular demand though, Kobolds really are the best.
Also, I was going through my list of story ideas and I noticed a lot of them involve disappearances, so I made a useless detective who investigates missing persons cases to serve as a foundation for said stories and any sequels they might end up with, one who totally isn't based on a certain insect-brained adventure game protagonist, now where did I put my scissors...?
LORE BYTE!
Kobolds:
Technically, Kobolds have been around for at least a few centuries in The World Within, but that’s really due to language reasons, specifically the fact that ‘Kobold’ is just the German word for ‘Goblin’, the ‘little dragon’ version of kobolds have only really been around for just under 100 years, and until DND 1E came out (and a few nerds got unbirthed by the World Mother at the time) they didn’t really have a single name, once those nerds noticed the minor similarities, they started spreading their idea, and most nations quickly agreed that having 2 names for ‘Goblins’ was pretty redundant, and gave the second to the effectively unnamed lizard things.
(Lets just ignore the fact that, according to this timeline, little dragon kobolds existed before 3E, or you know, just say it’s a coincidence for the sake of plot and move on.)
They, like most Draconic creatures were created by the Pagan God Ti-Malla, also known as the mother of dragons.
Despite their physical similarities to DND kobolds, the kobolds of the world within do not seek to serve dragons, while they do have a tendency to form clans and tribes, they are extremely friendly towards the various human-built civilisations, and it is not uncommon to see a kobold working in socially active positions all over The World Within.
To this day, no one has been able to figure out what inspired Ti-Malla to create kobolds, or what purpose they were supposed to serve, but, unlike most creatures created by Pagan Gods, (The World Within’s answer to devils) kobolds have, through their exceptionally friendly demeanour, earned widespread acceptance from the people of all nations.

Poor Buster, maybe someday a more competent detective will come by and ask questions. Until then, who knows what its like in Polick but I hope its comfy.

Well... she does get repeat wager takers, so it shouldn't be too uncomfortable for him at least.

I love the idea of the wager. I hope that Buster is let go eventually but simply has forgotten who was the bartender at the time.

Wooo, popular demands work! :p.
Have to admit willing cozy/safe-space stuff is very much not my jam (ironically given this story's context I actually often to refer to it as sleeping-bag vore)
But I love this story anyway, Policks is such a delightful character and the concept is just wickedly fun. I love the subtle world-building too, "The chalk board covered in tally marks", that's suggests a lot of people stuck inside a little dancing Kobold, and given the bartenders obvious interest in keeping a perfect record you have to wonder how many of those chalked up lines have been there quite a lot longer than anyone cares to think...or how many have accidentally been wiped away.
And then there's Policks. We learn she very much can keep perfect track of her occupants if she really wants to, which begs the question can she actually feel everyone, 'lost' or otherwise, or is it very much a lose-focus-and-forget feeling for her? Or worse, that she really is just that ambivilant she knows full well there's some poor guy lost somewhere close to her small intestine but has absolutely zero motivation to even consider trying to release him?
Of course, it leaves me incredibly curious about the fate of anyone lost for a decent length of time, if another detective or family member does manage to work out his current prison what would even happen. Does Policks just let out whoever she can manage to there and then, and if it's the wrong person up they go again (even if they're also well past the staying time), what state would a many-months-trapped Buster even be in? Or is Policks in on the bartenders record and motivated to make sure no one comes looking for Buster ever again?
Very much looking forward to seeing more! :p

I came here expecting a vore story, and ended up laughing my ass off too. Bravo! I can't believe no one has mentioned the amazing Mystery of the Druid homage here... I'm in awe. I love it
