If you stall for a few days there simply won't be a body to find, and so the coati is left to digest its meal in peace.

After all, it's easier to explain a complete disappearance - probably blamed on other humans - than having to put in your brochure that even the small local animals are dangerously predatory. That might reduce bookings at the resort, and no one wants that.

This is why you don't pet the wild animals. Either they are being cute to lure you in, or they decide you are bothering them. Then you run into "Don't annoy the animals or you will feed them."
