Goldeneye claims that he is not of the Mansus, merely visiting “to see the sights, and taste the tastes”. His smile grows whenever another of my disciples disappears without trace, as does his feathered belly. Each time I summon him, he offers me another form of ascension than the House of the Sun, and when I politely decline his smile grows further still.

Goldeneye wanders many worlds in search of new things to enjoy, but the mysterious Mansus, the house without walls where the alien gods known as the Hours dwell, has proved a true delight. So has the mortal world that intertwines with it. In between diving through the Painted River, attending the feasts of the Red Grail, and reminiscing on past prey with the Spider Door, he likes to let himself be summoned in ancient rites by unsuspecting occultists. It looks like you are the latest such devotee of the invisible arts to call him forth, and he is so very eager to please…

A tribute to the unqiue art style and themes of the excellent game Cultist Simulator, which has obsessed me for a year or two now. I’ve gone mad, died of leprosy, fallen into despair at the terrible truth of the world, sacrificed myself in detonating an arcane bomb to help a previous version of myself attain immortality, been arrested, been assassinated by my own underlings, been assassinated by my boss, danced secret dances that shed my skin, changed forms, fallen in love, betrayed my lover, and of course been devoured by my own summonings… and yet I keep coming back to enjoy the mystical world, fragments of delicious lore, and sense of hard-won triumph each time I take another step on the road towards ascension. I’d wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who likes the sense of uncovering lore through scraps here and there, and who is prepared to have no idea what’s going on the first 10-20 times they die.
