Passion projects. For some, it's creating a feature film, for others, a music album. For Akiho Senomiya, it's building a giant robot. But when progress on said robot comes to a crawl, and her friendships seem to be slowly drifting away with time, she desperately turns to the one person who might be able to do something about both. Just gotta get her to open up first.
For the past year, this has been my passion project. I started this last April, and since then, it has evolved into something I've poured so much time, effort, and energy into. My record up until this point was 25,423 words, a feat I didn't think possible at the time, yet alone something I could ever surpass. Well, here we are. At 26,662 words - an unintentional palindrome, this is now my longest story period. It's...really emotional to finally be done with it, to be honest. I've gotten pretty close to outright crying. So let's get into why.
This is a story based off the 2012 visual novel Robotics;Notes, an incredibly long, relatively laid back and comfy entry of the Science Adventure franchise. For the uninitiated, it's the series Steins;Gate – my favorite piece of fiction period – is part of. I started reading R;N...last April, and pretty much right away, I fell in love with two characters; Aki and Frau.
In a way, I saw them as extensions of myself - which is one of the best ways I operate when writing, honestly. Aki's an always upbeat optimist trucking along as best she can...and Frau's the lonely gremlin wanting to shut herself off from a cruel, uncaring world. But like myself, they're connected by their passion for this thing they love, and that just...makes things all work.
For the past year, I've scoured the internet high and low, looking pretty much everywhere I could think of for any R;N content...in this general sphere, vorestuff, general tummage, and I always came up empty. So at some point I decided, fuck it. Sometimes, if you want something...you gotta do it yourself. Hell, there wasn't even a tag on the site here. That's how uncharted this territory is! So maybe you can see just why this ended up as long as it did. I wanted to do it right, I wanted to do them justice. And I hope I did a decent enough job, because good lord...this wasn't easy.
I had to do so much damn research for this thing. Spending hours in the in-game tip list, finding fan translations of Japanese-exclusive artbooks for in-universe lore about a fictional TV show, 2000s netslang - both Japanese and English, quotes of Char from Gundam - which are a lot harder to find in English than I expected them to be, not to mention the differences in terminology between translations of not just this game, but this entire series. PokeCom, PhoneDroid, Cola Cola, I obsessed over every minute little detail...it was so exhausting. But again, I wanted to do this universe justice, and portray it as accurately as I could. So I pushed through regardless of how much it overwhelmed me.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for putting up with my deranged ramblings yet again. I put my heart and soul into this, so I hope you all enjoy it...at least a small percentage of how much I did making it. I have some big news coming soon, so stay tuned for a blog detailing that in the near future. Probably tomorrow lol

Man, it must've taken an insane amount of research and revising to get all that dialogue sounding right. What an epic of a fic. Hikki slob tummy corruption ftw!

I have around 50 hours in the game itself, and I think like...at least 35 of those were spent in the tip list. There's also all the time I spent looking on Urban Dictionary, Wikipedia, various like, forum sites that look like they're stuck in the mid 2000s, Reddit threads...this was by far the most extensive project I've ever had to do. So I'm just...really glad it turned out okay in the end.

The fact you did research for a story, and i mean FULL RESEARCH, should earn you not JUST a medal, but a fucking country of your own at this point

This is just my level of commitment, my level of insanity. :)

Thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed it - that's exactly the kind of reaction I hope for when writing this stuff!
