Madeline quickly learned that sending Rattles on ahead to capture someone tended to go rather wrong. At least, it went wrong if she wanted to bring something other than a bulge back to the settlement.

Rattles you dumb creature you ate the kid, now you get no reward! Also, Madeline is not very smart either

This is early in their time together, which is why Rattles is smaller. Technically she shouldn't find out he could eat people until a story I did that's chronogically later than this but I can live with a continuity error. 83

I have a mod that turns FO4 Dogmeat into a Nightstalker. Every time he yawns I wish my character could stick their head in. Snekdogs have impressive yawns. 83

Digestion should be slow enough for the settler to still be alive. But this is a happy ending. Rattles stays fed. And if the settlers are anything like those in the game. Madeline got some stuff to exhange for caps at the closest trading post.

well they didn't mention to bring him back in one piece...right?

They did bring him back in one piece. One half digested piece mind you.

correction, i meant, *alive*

"You said you wanted him in one piece. You should have specified one living piece."

pretty much your own damn fault for bringing the animal along, unless you can bring the kid back that is

This is true, Madeline is at fault for not training her pet properly. It’s one thing when your ‘dog’ tends to nip people, it’s another when it swallows them whole. 83

yeah, and since that job has costed the death of what? a child? She really would need to either find a way to bring the child back (heard cloning might be canon), training the mutt better, putting it down for having potentially killed a child if she doesn't want to risk having people who want her and the creature dead for this blunder

The wasteland is a horrible place. It's easy to get desensitized to people dying, especially when the place is full of raiders. You get used to killing objectively bad people and then slip up and kill someone you shouldn't.

well I would expect that the parents of a child would want some sort of vengeance for this

Might be an orphan or a solo refugee from another settlement. The wasteland really is a miserable place.

well these people still wanted the child back, I would assume parental instincts may persist even in those trying times

Well, there is a point where you're not getting the person back. Then it's either start shooting or banish the offender from your settlement, which is what happened here.

fair enough, but it would be nice if the person got more of a punishment than just banishment

I did a story about a polar bear who liked to trick and eat people. He ended up being eaten by a bigger polar bear who didn't appreciate that. We tend to see the successes rather than the failures but failures do happen.
