This reminds me of a webnovel that I'm reading, where human-eating monsters pretend to be humans, with fully human lives, only to turn monstrous when they actually encounter an actual human. The storyline has world-shaking conspiracies, guild rivalries, thrilling assassination plots, and all that.
Depending on what you do with this story, you can pretty much flesh this world out and tell one hell of an epic tale in the process. You don't even have to stick with Cory and Daniel as your main characters later on.
...Although I'm totally fine with the current plot just as well. XD
