Some more researchs about costumes and posing.
I decided to get ride of the pieces of skin and fur present in the first versions; concentrating their dress habits around bone shards, ropes and eventually leather armbands or legcufs. Wamezaji decorate their mostly uncovered bodies with painted tattoes and scars (either from fighting or intentional).

As Wamezaji age and win more fights/eat more opponents, they add more and more tattoes and scars on their body. Same for their hair mass they tend to let getting bigger as they get older. It's a way for them to distinguish young warriors from more experienced ones.

Rough concept art of the Mlaji Kubwa coming back from battle, having obviously feasted on the ennemy.
"Mlaji Kubwa" (translated "Big Eater") is the title given to the ruler of the Wamezaji. Considered among the tribe like the direct incarnation of SWAL on Earth, to be eaten by them is considered as a privelege by most tribesmen.
The title stays in the same blood line, passing from father to son.

The transfer of title can work three different ways, EITHER the actual Mlaji Kubwa dies with an heir and the heir inherits of the title, OR the Mlaji Kubwa dies without an heir and any men in the tribe can pretend to the title (though they'll have to fight and eat any other warrior pretending to it too), OR the Mlaji Kubwa is eaten by another member of the tribe (after being defeated in a duel) and his opponent win his title.
In the case of the inheritance, the heir must still eat his deceased father to access the thrown (it is believed that way, they absorb the former sovereign's strengt and legitimacy to incarnate SWAL)

These are the first visuals I made for the look of the Wamezaji (sing. a wamezaje, plur. wamezaji).
I tried to see what kind of clothes they could wear, flat belly AND full belly. Figured out really soon that bones, skulls, teeth etc. were going to be play a big part in their culture/look since... well, they eat peoples and animals. I already knew back then that I wanted their leader to be some kind of religious figure, considered as a divine incarnation of the "gods"...

I like to think that it's unclear about if he's only teasing or if he's genuily trying to help him the most 'Derek" way possible.
Btw, Derek's "crush" (sry I still can't get over that joke lol) is named Gabriel and he's literally the only person that doesn't have to be worried about ending up on Derek's plate (but is completely unaware of this "privilege").
Gabriel just thinks that Derek chosed him as his favorite victim while Derek just wanna try...
