Just a touched up doodle of a different look for Nyoka. A more streamlined head, different, almost Uvuzi-like hair stuff, significantly thicker body plus the sort of massive bulge we've come to expect from her. Oh, and a more otter-like nose. I may color this just to see if I like this look.

Since I have a sketch right before my eyes for once, how long did this take you to do?

Lovely detail work with only the one smudge in the right hand sketch.

Every time I see one of these "sketches" from you or other artists i have been around through the years... I so badly wish i had not given up on drawing 30yrs ago.

I did it while taking notes, so it was a bit at a time. All together it probably took half an hour to an hour, and then another 15 minutes to digitally ink it. Unfortunately I forgot to make a new layer, so if I decide to color this I'll have to reink it.

Wait, distracted with note taking and you still did it in ONLY 30-60min? Whew...

With as dedicated as you are to your artwork I seriously doubt reinking her would be more then a mild "inconvenience" with the single layering you accidently used. With as good as this "sketch" is I think she would be magnificent colored.

The problem with forgetting a layer is that if I decide to color it, I have to re-ink it...wait, I said that already. Yeah, it's just an inconvenience on a drawing this simple. As for the time taken, Nyoka is the simplest of my characters to draw. No clothing, not much bone structure shows, etc.

Want to know the thing that seriously gets me about you are calling the "simplist" of your characters? I have have a number of artist friends over the years and I have always been amazed at how y'all can reproduce the same characters over and over again like copy machines. That is truly impressive to me.

I hope you do "endure" the inconvenience of re-inking her. Though I'd imagine inking and coloring will take you longer then the time to originally draw her >_>

Is there no way you could add layers to her for the coloring stage? I never can remember the limitations on layering.

I am actually terrible at reproducing characters. Look at my comics and see the characters change size, shape, face, etc from frame to frame. It's one reason I don't do many comics. Nyoka is physically the simplest shape to draw and I still mess her up, usually by drawing her too big or too small. Luckily I can usually excuse that as the prey being bigger or smaller than average. 83

It would be a simple matter to add a layer and re-ink. This is a small drawing with very few lines. If I had done this with a complicated drawing, or at a bad point in the coloring process, which HAS happened, it's worth a few expletives. This one was just an irritant. 83

And yes, coloring would take longer than the initial sketch. Coloring is usually the longest step and takes 3-6+ hours depending on how complex the drawing is.

From class?

Heh. It warms my heart to know that there really are some things kids never grow out of (even if their subject material grows mature instead).

National electrical systems class, A.k.A. Grounding/Bonding/Cabling. And yes, when I have time and am so inclined I draw in class. I did quite a bit of G-rated drawing in a networking class a couple of years ago.

If this is just a sketch and it's this good and it took almost 30 minutes it took me 30 minutes just to make my prey layout! It sucks compared to this. Are you a drawing god?!?!

The pencils took maybe 30 minutes to an hour and were very rough. It looks all right because as I sat there taking notes I would periodically look at it and fix little problems. And then I fixed some more problems when I digitally inked it. All told it's more like an hour and a half.

I like the new look! She seems a lot more snake-like, which really sets her apart from Uvuzi.

She's always been very snakey compared to her sister. Now she looks, I don't know, a bit pokemonish. 83
