I liked his thick neck, so I completed the sketch digitally. There is a lot of variation in body type among gul. First there are the humanoid and "feral" body types. Even among members of those two phenotypes there is much variation. This is as average a humanoid gul as you will find, average in height, weight, and build.
The typical gul is a well-trained soldier in the service of the Maker, Ruhollah Rushiadah. Despite popular opinions, most gul are lawful and law abiding. It is true they are sexually promiscuous (including outside their own species, and especially during mating season if they don't have a gul mate). They are not often rapists, though.
Only about 1 in 10 gul petitions the Maker for, and receives, the ability to swallow large prey whole. The magical changes needed to the body do carry some risk, and about 5% of gul die as they are transformed. They also have the drawback that it is possible for a "gulper" gul to accidentally unhinge his jaws when he bites someone in combat. (Biting as a secondary attack is a staple of gul warriors). If this happens the gul will have to take a moment to work them back into place before being able to bite again. Alternately, he could attempt to swallow his opponent whole if it's something he can overpower without being able to bite effectively.
No one is quite sure why it amuses the Maker to give his followers this ability. His Volpa foxpeople and Praka raccoon-folk ask for this ability only rarely -- there is usually one 'gulper' per Praka or Volpa village who serves as an executioner. It is not unheard of for the Maker to give this ability to creatures other than gul, praka and volpa. At least a few gnolls who worked as mercenaries for him were given this ability, among other creatures.
Again, despite the popular view, not every gul is eager to corner you in an alley and gulp you down. There are bad apples in the bunch, though, and they DO 'disappear' people when they think they can get away with it. Then again, non-gulper gul eat people as well from time to time. They just do it messily.

I like his thick neck too, but also his lower legs and feet/paws/claws.
The torso though... seems to have some proportioning issues. Sides too big, chest not big enough. Not sure about those abs either >_>

It happens when you draw without references. If I were at home I'd have my various action figures out so I could get the muscles right. And yes, the torso is too broad. Almost dwarfish looking.

I'm impressed. Not many would admit to such flaws so casually. Though I at first found it mildly amusing that anyone would admit to using action figures as references, it then dawned on me that they are an obvious good resource to draw upon if you are selective in the ones you used. I hope you don't mind but i'm filing this piece of info away for later usage >_>
