> Go to the fort with Edris
You think for a while and eventually decide to give the elf a little bit of trust. You do ask her if there would be a chance of teaming up with the soldiers.
"No" She shakes her head. "They'll take over, and we can't have that." You argue that you don't want to be making enemies like this. "You won't be. By the time those soldiers show up at the fort, we'll be long gone. Like I said before, we're just grabbing a few things. You already said that the soldiers aren't advancing on the fort until tomorrow." You sigh and give up. She waits outside as you and Myla get ready.
"Are you sure about this?" Myla seems concerned. You tell her that Edris hasn't really lied to you. "Yeah, but she hasn't been telling the whole truth either. We don't even know who these "allies" are." You try to comfort her by telling her that you'll get out the moment things start getting suspicious. "Well, I think we've already hit that suspicious part..." Once dressed and equipped, you head downstairs to find Garrett. You inform him of what is going on, and also make sure that he knows to stay on guard. He's probably your best chance at getting away, after all.
With the four of you ready, you head towards the eastern exit of Malor. "We'll be meeting the others a small ways down the road. Once there, we'll head for the old fort. It's possible we could run into some beasts out in the wilds, so stay on guard." Edris looks over towards you. "Don't worry too much though. You probably won't even have to do anything."
After about an hour of travel, you meet a rough looking group on the road. "There they are. We'll be heading into the wild after this." As you approach them, Myla stops.
"F... Floria, those are..." Looking over at them, you realize why she looks concerned. The group is familiar. To be precise, it's the survivors of your battle with Nysk. "I thought they were captured! What's going on here?!" You turn to Edris and demand an explanation.
"The majority of them were taken to Erada City. There, they were kept in a sort of holding cell before getting put in the prison proper." Edris explains calmly. "I worked with some old friends in the city to free them. And now, they want to take back the fort." She gives you a bit of a wicked smile. "You don't have to worry though. They already agreed to work with you. Most of them probably don't even recognize you. You did cause a lot of chaos during your attack, you know." The elf looks over towards Myla. "Can't say the same for you though. They all know you."
"Uh... Are we gonna be helping these guys?" Garrett asks. "They look kinda... mean, ya know?"
"Listen, I already explained it before." Edris crosses her arms at you. "This is basically free gold for you. You won't have to do much. Just help us out and don't get in our way."

Recruit Afro Man into Party

I have to agree on this ^^'

Stay alert and maybe whisper a sort of signal for Garret to listen for in case things go south. The survivors of the nysk fight definitely should not be trusted.
Posted by Salvec 9 years ago Report
So these allies are Nysk's goons, that's all the proof I need.
Betray the bandits.
Tell Myla you'll keep your magic at the ready then enter the wilds with the group before attacking them with flash, hopefully blinding enough to get a major advantage in the ensuing battle.

Okay I am starting to get really concerned about this, I happen to recall some of these guys where with Dustalf when he took them away, if that was the case then where the heck has he gone off to.
As for these guys, I severely don't trust these scum, but money is money, if we are going to get out of this alive we will need to be extremely on our toes to the point where we can't give them a chance to surround us, that being said, make sure they stay in the front lines at all times so there won't be any chance of them blocking your escape for example.
"So says the head of superiority"

Well shit.
Set everyone in our party on high alert. If any of the bandits have a problem with Myla, let them know we'll kick their asses six ways till Sunday.
That being said, the chances of bandit betrayal is unclear: we may be lured into a trap, or they may wait till the fort is cleared before attacking us. I see now why Edris was so insistent on keeping us in the dark, she knew we'd never agree to this otherwise. One thing is for sure, though: stay behind them. Let them lead the charge.

Let's not be to hasty. Myla should get on Garrett's back, just in case. Partly for a quick escape, partly for intimidation.
If thing go south, we can use our magic to stall them. We should act as bodyguards for her.
If they recognize who she is and take action, we can help stop them. Hopefully Edris will give us a hand if it comes to that.
We still need to fill in the blanks for Myla. When this is all said and done, we should do that.

This sounds like a good plan so I agree

Y'know I got the impression that they blamed cloaked guy for Nysk's death and are willing to help us take him out. So this is just us getting them on our side. We need to turn the cloaked guy's former friends into his enemies instead of relying on his existing enemies alone.
If they were going to ambush us they're not properly equipped to do so. We would easily be able to dispatch of all of them if they turned on us, which makes me think they really aren't here to kill us. If they did they'd have brought something better to kill us with, knowing we stood toe to toe with their boss who was much stronger than them.
Considering that these bandits are weak we are safe hanging with them whether they are being sincere or not. So I say we get to know all of them, help them clear this fort out, pay attention to what exactly it is they're here to get out of the fort, without asking, and instead of trying to stop them we help them do it and if it turns out to be something nefarious we keep our mouths shut and tell the soldiers about it later.
> Tell Myla and Garrett to 'be cool, man', help the bandits clear out the fort, covertly gather intel on their operation, but just be cool. Like we're undercover. We can bust and arrest them, or bail and snitch on them, if anything goes wrong. They might even just be cool and agree to help us in future if our good nature rubs off on them.
It's better to let them do what they're about to do, then decide from there, because if we just take them out right now we will never find out what they're going after or what our next course of action against the hooded cloak guy is. We need to hang with these guys for intel. Like an undercover cop.
Either it turns out they are evil, in which case we can bust them or rat them out like an undercover cop would, or it turns out they're just an angry group of independent bandits willing to help us in some way to take down the cloaked guy who killed their old boss Nysk.
We should definitely not be afraid of them, because they're too ill equipped to take us out and they aren't loyal to the cloaked guy, as Edris said herself earlier. We should just hang with them for a while and see where this goes. Either we get some allies or some valuable information. This is either a bonding trip for some future allies or a very important sting operation.
My view of bandits is that we should be turning them into adventurers or good citizens instead of killing them like they're Pac-Man ghosts. Floria is a bastion of reforming criminals, not killing them. She's not The Punisher, she's a diplomat. :v
Bandits are people like us, they're affected by socio-economic circumstances that turned them into bandits. They aren't inherently evil, they're just disadvantaged youths n' stuff.
Remember the Undertale flower from earlier? Remember Undertale? We should not. Kill. Anyone. Ever. So far so good on that front. Floria has not yet killed anyone herself. The flower in Undertale turned out to be evil but not killing it, and being a peacemaker, was still the right thing to do in that game.
Then we can go for the Wayne's World-esque Mega Happy Ending.
So that's my case for siding with the bandits for now, undercover, to get a beat on them, to see what they're about. Either they're cool and they help us out, or they're evil in which case we just get them arrested or something instead of Dirty Harrying them.
The second we start killing stuff, karma will kill us. Hard. We've been very lucky so far, if we started killing stuff, our luck would run out I bet.
This has been another novel brought to you by Pigeon Publishing.
Posted by PowerPigeon 9 years ago Report
Also I don't think we should just run away because then they do whatever they're about to do without us, except now we never find out what it was they were headed to that fort for. At the very least we need to see what they're up to before we decide whether to arrest them, run away, or help them out and get on their good side.
Posted by Ark 9 years ago Report
did you forget afro guys was going toe to toe with the old man?!? yeah im pretty sure you can remember that beat down and just what he might be able to do if he got serious.
and lets count them.5 and one of them is afhro guy and another is edris who specializes in kills from stealth . if they wanted to ambush us then all they need is for us to get closer and they win simple as that.

We need to get out of there. Now.
Edris has been lobbying to replace Nysk herself. Heck, shes even delivered the ones responsible for the old boss' death to the rest of the gang. If we don't leave now, Edris is going to kill us before or after we help her take back this fort. We need to hop on Garrett, grab Jates, and get on a transport out of Malor.

Posted by joe354 9 years ago Report
I say keep going. If we fight now the chance of getting there and out alive for the bandits and us or decrease significantly. Fighting now would do nothing for us and waste time, the same goes to getting out of there. The best thing to do is make sure we keep on our toes and keep moving forward with them. We might get a few recruits to the party that we can gain trust with.
Posted by Thagrahn 9 years ago Report
Well, we laid them flat once, and many died in the last fight.
I say we go with, but have our focus glove, Nysk's crossbow, and our shield ready. If they just want to claim the goods and scatter, that's okay. Any sign of betrayal, and we lay them flat again.
Posted by Sergit 9 years ago Report
I don't like this. Even if Edris does not plan on double-crossing us, the other bandts might change their mind once they have what they want.
I think this is an obvious red flag. Retreat, get the hell out of there. She's made it obvious that they hold a gruge against Myla.
And besides, if they do take over... wouldn't that mean going back to how the situation was at the beginning?
We went into Malor, we solved their problem with bandits by getting rid of their leader and getting them all arrested. But now, suddenly, we are helping the bandits to get stronger again, get eventually a new leader and a new fortress.
Do you think they'll be good from now on and leaveMalor alone? No, bandits gonna bandit.
They'll harrass Malor again, just like Nysk did with Jates and others. Let's not do this, we can still like... go back to Malor or keep our path towards the next city in our path to get Myla healed.

We are out numbered 5 to 3 if they turn on us, and that's including the inexperienced centaur. I already was 1, and now seeing that Myla is most likely in danger, I say we get the hell out of there.

ARE YOU KIDDING, this has WE WILL KILL YOU WRITTEN ALL OVER IT. let me rimind you guys about some facts.
Fact one nysk wouldnt have been after you guys if us if we handn't atack/killed cronic.
Fact two she wouldnt have set up the ambush/called in the favor with the wizard guy that killed her.
fact three over half her men there died and when you do an ambush that is personal you get the guys that work WELL together ie THEY WERE ALL FRIENDS.
fact four WE KEEP SETTING CONDITIONS TO THINGS AND NOT FOLLOING THEM WTF WAY NOT TO COMMIT TO THINGS.
fact five the captian of the guards knows that edris is with you, he knows you went to the city, he knows you were told about the fort and when the soldiers would hit it. 1+1+1=3.
its time to abort they want you there at this point and we all know why so plz if you want to get flora eaten just say it and stop pretending not.

Welp, I told you, we shouldn't have trusted her.
They won't be so nice once they have the things they want.
They will probably try to kill us, considering how we killed their ally...
I say, be super, super alert. And be as safe as possible.
And make sure that Garrett is always near, in case we need a getaway.
ALSO! Learn as much about the bandits as we can.
If they turn on us, we can rat them all out to soldiers.
Posted by SnipsChan 9 years ago Report
I hope everyone that said to go with them is glad about letting a bandit that tried to kill us free, endangering ourselves, Myla, and our new horse friend.
Posted by Ethereal 9 years ago Report
Sigh. Let's head to the fort, let whoever is at the fort whittle down these bandits. Once it is all over, we take out the remaining bandits (including Edris), kill them all (as they escaped once already), loot up, and decide what to do next.
Posted by Ethereal 9 years ago Report
We ride Garrett while we do that and run if there is obvious bandit treachery against us.

Burn the grass between you and the bandits then ride away as fast as garret can take you

For those thinking we could win this fight, that got thrown out the window when Afro showed up. This guy went up against Dulstaff for a while, and according to Rayen, Dulstaff is quite a bit stronger than us.
Also, we're at nearly half the strength we were in the past fight with no forms of backup. Floria had training buffs at the time giving her and Myla +3 to all stats effectively making us twice as strong as normal. That bonus is gone now. We had backup as well in the form of Marcus and Dulstaff. Even with all that, we still had someone nearly die. We need to get out now.
Posted by davidargall 9 years ago Report
The wisest action is likely to turn around and run, fast. Do not walk away, full flight. Whether they have planned a trap from the start, or they will decide after the fight that we are now rich suckers they didn't like anyway, either way, we face long odds of getting away with our riches. Jump on Garrett and gallop away. Report back to the captain and tell him what we know.
But the fact we became adventurers says we are not wise. So how to survive this potential deathtrap?
1-How honest has Edris seemed? She's a thief and not to be trusted, and her words are a worry , but has she really acted like she is lying to us? has she smiled at the wrong time? told her story too smoothly? or not smoothly enough? What has her manner been saying?
2-Her basic story has a big hole in it. These bandits don't need to recover the fort. They already have the fort. Now of course their pals in the fort are likely just as crooked and may have said "Sucks that you will be doing years of hard time while we loaf. To make you feel better, we will toast you every time we use your money to buy us drinks." So maybe they will need to fight to get "their" money back.
3-Why are they willing to let some strangers in on a "good" deal to shaft some of their friends? Now they may well be really poor friends, but why split the loot with us? Edris alone would need our help, but with this crowd, we just don't seem needed, except as victims.
Possible tactics...
Grab Edris and demand an answer
right now. If the answer is not satisfactory, flee. Maybe say "sorry" to her as you run, but get out now at full speed.Act innocent and just a little puzzled. Ask Edris and several of the bandits one by one about points 2 or three and look for signs of lying. If found, the 3 of you sorta drift to one side and bolt when you have a chance.
Watch for any tactics that part us, or let us get taken advantage of.
Remember, Big Afro managed to stand up to our big man for a round or two. There is too good a chance he can take us without help, and he has help. This is no time to fight the bandits.
The more I think on it, the more I am liking jumping on Garrett and galloping away, but if we end up taking the chance, and it works out badly, I'll just say I told you so.
Posted by Razgriz 9 years ago Report
The face is, we need gold to help Myla's condition. She says its free gold and if it's not, we can gallop out. We know Myla and Garret both have a bad feeling about us - we can keep that feeling to stay safe.
Posted by Razgriz 9 years ago Report
on second thought, afro man was keeping toe to toe with the most powerful person in our party during the main fight earlier. Maybe we should heed Myla and gtfo of there.
Posted by Humbug 9 years ago Report
I have no idea if you base outcomes on similar criteria that I have in the past, but if you do, I find this hilarious.
You gave, like, ALL the hints that trusting Edris might not be the best idea. It's lookin' pretty bad now. XD
So yeah. I'm thinkin' we ride Garrett outta there and tell someone about this. Keeping company with one of the bandits who attacked us is one thing. Keeping company with escaped bandits could very well earn us a shitty reputation with the guard and town in general, since we're the reason they escaped.
Posted by Demicus 9 years ago Report
Afro man! Ahaha! Love it!
Its dangerous, but lets do it anyway. We're still tough, and besides we have a common goal. Get in, grab the things, and leave. No staying. Watch for hidden traps though, and under no circumstances split up from Myla and Garret.
We're gonna need a lot of cash to get Myla back to 100% after all. >_<;
Posted by Topazert 9 years ago Report
There were many many times Edris could of killed or robbed us in our sleep or ditched us....she's dead pan though thats what happends when your're raised like this, hell even Myla wasn't even being 100% on the level with us when it came to gold. She is what she is, she's a tough nut though she has honor and she said they weren't going to stay at the fort just get in, get what they need, and get out. I'm not saying let out guard down though don't let them know we're afraid either just be chill and tell the others to be chill though wary around them and if they start getting agitated with Myla defend her, speaking of which along the way we need to fill in the gaps of her memory especially our fuck up with Edris and her kicking Floria out.

Posted by davidargall 9 years ago Report
As noted, Edris had a couple of chances to kill us in our sleep, and didn't. That's good enough reason to not try to eat her, but it's still scary trusting her enough to walk into a death trap. There are so many versions of "I want them to suffer..."
I think I will still go with run while we can, but maybe we are missing out on a great chance.
Posted by forgreatjustice18 9 years ago Report
I vote that we go to the castle with them. We can flee on Garret if shit goes south
Posted by davidargall 9 years ago Report
There are a whole lot of possible situations where we won't be able to retreat if we don't flee now. It's of course far from sure, but our first warning that something is going South may be when somebody sticks a knife in our back.
