Read this post on the website, if you like: https://adventurerpgame.wordpress.com/2016/04/20/arpg-2-77/

> Attempt to talk to the harpy

You stay on the defensive, but decide to see if the harpy isn't completely feral. You ask her if she understands you. The birdkin stops for a moment before simply tilting her head. You let out a frustrated sigh. It was worth a shot at least.

Now that you know for certain she is fully feral, you must decide what to do. You're currently in a fairly open area near the cliffside, but there is forest all around. If you had to run from her, then the forest would be the best choice. Even if she did follow you in, she'd be forced to land if she wanted to attack you.

While keeping an eye on her movements and thinking of what to do, the harpy suddenly lunges at you with surprising speed! You quickly manage to dodge out of the way and flip back around to see her landing back on the ground a ways away with her back turned to you. You put yourself back in a defensive position as the birdkin turns around. She has a smile on her face and playfully flaps her wings as she slowly starts to approach you. You're really not sure if this harpy is trying to trick you or is just being playful.

For those of you who haven't noticed, there's been a few changes to the ARPG website. Mostly just some cleaning up on the presentation of certain pages.

I also added a page that shows what all we have unlocked for character creation, along with descriptions: https://adventurerpgame.wordpress.com/character-creation/

Someone suggested it in the survey and it seemed like a good idea. :V

Also, I'm just gonna upload these whenever. I give up on the idea of a scheduled time. :U

Advance on the harpy and with the axe at the ready but low. Prepared to defend.

If she is playing we dont want to kill her! And if she isnt... Well obviously we need to survive. If we dont find Garret or Myla I'll be sad. 3:

Naughty but playful harpy?

Was expecting either not fully feral, or would turn aggressive.

Still trying to decide if we should charge the birb, cast Firestream on the birb, or just try to move so there is a tree behind us.

Thagrahn

I've got it!

Smile, drop weapons, and charge the birb!

We dodged her twice, Floira should get a chance at being on the offence in this game.

That sudden lunge was not very comforting. That being said, it gives me an idea. What would happen if the harpy lunged at us again and we threw up a stone shield?

Thagrahn

Posted by Thagrahn 9 years ago Report

Wait for her to stop circling, and raise it behind us?

Stunlocked

Posted by Stunlocked 9 years ago Report

Her stone shield spell isn't really good, it took forever to make and didn't even support its own weight.

The birb would have plenty of time to attack and she would fly straight through it if she happened to hit it. That would mean rocks flying towards you which isn't very healthy. And the birb.

Kartomic

Posted by Kartomic 9 years ago Report

Better yet... Position ourselves in front of a tree, and try to bait the harpy into charging into it. That outta knock her out cold.

DeityV

Posted by DeityV 9 years ago Report

Damn, I want a Birb. All right, here we go. Use stone shield to raise up a small round rock. Let's throw it intentionally wide right to see if she tries to fetch it. If not, then at least we are prepared for a fight.

Tackle that harpy to the ground. Friendly glomps ftw!

Menyra

Posted by Menyra 9 years ago Report

Cast Torch (or whatever the light spell is) on our weapon, and then wave it around in an attempt to play with the birb.

We should sate her curiosity. Clearly the birb likes shinies (because let's face it: what kind of birb doesn't like shinies? :V) so the best course of action is to create our own shiny!

Thagrahn

Posted by Thagrahn 9 years ago Report

Don't risk our stone axe, cast it on one of the throwing stones.

YesImCanadian

Posted by YesImCanadian 9 years ago Report

I like this idea. We cast it on a stone and throw it to the side, close enough to her to get her attention, but far enough to get her distracted and see what she does.

We need so stay vigilant. We don't know what else is out here.

YesImCanadian

Posted by YesImCanadian 9 years ago Report

For as much as I don't think we should, we should move towards the forest. Give ourselves as much of an advantage as we can.

davidargall

Posted by davidargall 9 years ago Report

Situation getting worse. Stay alert and ready. Attempt to retreat slowly and carefully to tree or bushes where harpy flying will be hampered.
Make gestures to look threatening. A predator can't win if it takes even a small wound. The next meal would escape, or some healthy predator would finish it. So if we look dangerous, it should leave us alone.
Remember, if we survive, we win. There is no need to kill this thing if it will go away.
Throwing a stick likely won't work, but if we can do it safely and easily, we might as well. But our prime tactic is to stay ready.
We probably don't have time to cast any stone spell and still dodge, But we might be able to make a shield we can use as a shield while it is not attacking. But our stone spell didn't work too well before.
Now we do have a firestream spell, which might make the harpy go away, or immediately attack, and since feather do burn well, it may retreat. The spell doesn't do much damage, but if the harpy fears fire, it could save us.

KinoTheCat

Posted by KinoTheCat 9 years ago Report

Now its time to act. Cast an ember toward shte bird, and wait to see if she lunges again. If she does, try to raise a stone shield in front of it so as to knock her out with her own momentum!

Do not throw our weapon. This is a bird that is probably wanting to eat us, do not get rid of the one weapon we have.

paltiel

Posted by paltiel 9 years ago Report

Okay, I'll bite. What's the safest way to play with her?

Schpadoinkle

Posted by Schpadoinkle 9 years ago Report

If she wanted to eat us she'd have done so while we didn't notice her. Swooping at Floria was an attempt to say "play with me"

The way she's approaching now suggests that she thinks we're interesting. A good way to get on a bird's, or feral harpy in this case, is to offer her something. Since I don't think we have food, clearly we should offer a hug, or some sort of snuggle.

As long as you're not rough with the wings. Birds don't like it when their wings are handled.

paltiel

Posted by paltiel 9 years ago Report

*nodsnods* Yeah, we're completely out of food. Thank you- Playing with her like that gets my vote.

SHHH! DON'T TELL ANYONE!

Sergit

Posted by Sergit 9 years ago Report

I agree with this. She wants to play because she finds us amusing. So let's amuse her... Hugs and snuggles are a good choice. I was going to suggest singing to her and see if she singed along, or something, since that seems less dangerous than a hug, but... if you guys are up to it, I vote to offer her a hug as well.

Kartomic

Posted by Kartomic 9 years ago Report

This thing has attempted to attack us twice now, so I have a feeling that trying to befriend it is a bad idea. Cast the torch spell on our club or a rock, and wave it around to distract the harpy. When the time is right, throw a rock grenade at it.

That being said though, im quite nervous about Floria's chances here. Bruised and hungry, facing an enemy that is far faster than us. We'll need to use our heads. Maybe position ourselves in front of a tree, and bait the harpy into charging at us again.

YesImCanadian

Posted by YesImCanadian 9 years ago Report

That would be a smart move. If it does lung at us again, we might have a chance.

YesImCanadian

Posted by YesImCanadian 9 years ago Report

What we can do, is act friendly to it and act like we're lowering our guard. At the same time, we move so that we're between a tree and the harpy. We should get kind of close to the tree though. If it lunges again stops short and we're not close enough to the tree, we will be open for another attack.

If it doesn't lunge and is curious, we can try to distract it with the torch spell, giving us time to try something else.

Whistle a little tune see if it mimics it

Sergit

Posted by Sergit 9 years ago Report

This gets my vote too. Maybe singing is a bad idea, but whistling shouldn't be too hard. If the harpy seems to dislike our song, we stop whistling to avoid pissing her off. Otherwise, let's continue whistling and see what she does.

MontyMiyagi2513

Posted by MontyMiyagi2513 9 years ago Report

I just thought since most harpies out side of mythology are based on song birds and the this harpy is feral to a certain degree something musical would give us a better chance of survival and possibly make a new friend

PowerPigeon

Posted by PowerPigeon 9 years ago Report

Y'know what, birb. We have places to be right now. If you want to follow us around, that's fine. You ain't got no beef with me, I ain't got no beef with you. I am one with nature.

Seeing as the birb is WALKING TOWARDS US, we'll walk calmly in the opposite direction, into the forest.

Based on the fact that harpies are mostly playful, and nighttime makes creatures more aggressive, I think the harpy is just AGGRESSIVELY PLAYFUL. >:u

I say that because becoming more aggressive isn't the same as becoming more violent or dangerous. If it's in a harpy's nature to be playful their playfulness is what becomes more aggressive.

I think that term best describes how it's acting right now. If it turns violent the only thing it can really do is grab us and carry us into the air, which is the only thing we need to avoid, which can be avoided by heading into the forest.

I say we smile and wave at the birb, then walk into the forest.

But we keep our guard up as we do so. We always keep our goshdeng guard up.

This isn't really an encounter, it's just a birb who decided it wants to follow us... Let's just let it follow us, but in the forest, where it can't attack us from the air.

So we should just let it be and walk into the forest, where if it does try to attack us, it can't do the one thing it can do, which is pick us up with its claws and fling us up into the sky.

If we start attacking every creature we meet, we're going to be in the forest forever, standing atop a mountain of skulls.

Come with us, birb. Let us venture into the forest together.

> Walk into the forest with our birb stalker. Head towards the nearest main road so we can start hitchhiking.

We're best just being neutral with the birb for the moment. We won't attack it or play with it, we'll just walk away and let it follow us into the forest, where it can't do anything to hurt us.

I mean, we really can't be distracted by this birb forever. We need to start heading to safety. We need to head to safety through the forest where we are safe from air-predators, who are the really tricky ones to deal with.

Attacking the birb would alert other predators, and make the birb actually violently aggressive instead of aggressively playful.

Playing with the birb is just asking for it to turn on us, or play with us in a very dangerous way, or take us back to its nest or something.

Let's just let the birb follow us around in an area where it can do no real harm, the forest. Show her we're not afraid of birbs.

In the forest she can't carry us into the sky, she can only use her hand claws and try to swallow us whole. If she did swallow us in the forest we could easily just light her insides on fire.

In the forest she can be our wingman. :U A-HA, A-HAHAHA, A-HA, A-HA, hehhh...

PowerPigeon

Posted by PowerPigeon 9 years ago Report

Then again I suppose this birb could be our safest guide out of the forest. In that case our best bet would be to hug it out.

I feel safer around this birb now that we've learned more about blue birbs from this universe in the comments.

> Hug Birb

Me am Floria. Me hug puny birb. Ugg.

She's blue, Navi was blue. She could have followed our kidnappers all the way to the mountains, which would explain why they aren't usually in mountainous regions.

Let's counter her WALKING TOWARDS US with a HUG IT OUT.

It should be SUPER EFFECTIVE.

PowerPigeon

Posted by PowerPigeon 9 years ago Report

Also we can't throw a grenade or use any fire, otherwise we'll start a forest fire and/or attract beasties with noise. We also can't walk into the forest as that's probably full of beasties too.

So the only viable option at this point is to hug birb. Combat would be unnecessary and dangerous, judging by my newly acquired birb psychology degree. It takes a birb to know a birb.

PowerPigeon

Posted by PowerPigeon 9 years ago Report

She could even help us fly *over* the forest so we don't have to walk through it. That would be cool. :v

PowerPigeon

Posted by PowerPigeon 9 years ago Report

Wait a minute now, the birb is in grabbing distance.

We could just say, grab the birb and shove it in our mouth.

Occam's razor. :v

We're playing with you birb, don't worry about it... just stay inside there, and play. >:u

PowerPigeon

Posted by PowerPigeon 9 years ago Report

What if we combine the two... we hug it out, then BAM, we eat the birb.

Then again making her fly into a tree and knock out would also be smart. That's the safest way of taking her out. We wouldn't even have to eat her then, we *could* just walk away. Or eat her.

There are too many options in this panel. Damn you, freedom!

Hmm, an updated character creation page. With your past history of subtle hint dropping, it is safe to assume, Floria is done for. :P

Fighting is not an option with only a crude stone axe and no armor vs. a feral birb. Fleeing isn't a good idea either, as with her luck, Floria would only run into another monster. She should take her imminent death with humor and start singing "Surfin Birb". With any luck she'll survive another panel.

A-well-a everybody's heard about the birb!

Even 8 luck don't prevent two consecutive bad rolls. May X-Com experience teached me that you could easily miss 97-99% hit shots.. with whole 6 man squad.. in a single turn.. on IronMan. And with all the luck Floria had until now, statistics doesn't favor her.

Being playful isn't the same as being friendly, just being coy and cynical, so probably best to try and wait for it to strike first.

The forest itself may have other perils, but being close to the treeline as a defensive tactic will help so as to duck around a tree if it tries to dash us. We got the reflexes, but do we have the strength for this fight? Guess we'll find out.

Jondo

Posted by Jondo 9 years ago Report

I think we should act terrified, point behind the Harpy, and yell, "Hey look! A distraction!" Then run behind a tree when she looks the other way.
