> See Jates

You have several hours before you will likely leave, so you decide to spend that time wisely. First thing you decide to do is see how Jates is doing. Heading into the neighboring room, you see the innkeeper sitting on the side of the bed, drinking some water. You're surprised to see her already sitting up. You assume her recovery is progressing faster than the doctor first thought.

"Oh, hey Flor-" She immediately notices your new feathered self and nearly drops her drink. "Wh-what the?! What happened to you?! Why are you...?" You quickly explain to her that your new harpy friend used some strange magic on you, which healed you, but also changed you into a harpy. You again leave out the whole unbirthing thing. "W-well, that's certainly... weird. Should you really be bringing a feral into town like this though..?" She keeps an eye on Bluebell as the harpy curiously hops around the room, looking at things. "I doubt Marcus would be too happy about it..."

Bluebell eventually makes her way around to Jates, standing close to her, examining her. Jates slowly starts scooting away, a bit nervous to be so close. After a long pause, Bluebell turns to you with her head tilted. "Food..?" You quickly wave your hands as Jates nearly falls over, trying to move away. After a short bit of panic, you manage to get Bluebell to understand that Jates isn't food, and instead, a friend. As the harpy starts to go to hug her, you stop her. Her tight hugs might hurt Jates. Bluebell looks confused, so you ask Jates to show her her injuries to make her understand. Jates hesitantly does so and the harpy looks for a moment before softly petting Jates. Seems she gets the idea that she needs to be gentle with her right now.

"She's gonna end up causing trouble, you know." Jates properly sits herself back down. "When ferals get hungry... Well..." She doesn't really have to explain any further. You already know that if the harpy gets hungry, things could go badly. Thinking about that, you decide to offer Bluebell one of your rations. Holding it out, you motion towards it, telling her that it's food. The harpy closely inspects it for a few moments before giving you a weird look, shaking her head. It would appear she doesn't like rations. This could be a problem.

"Well of course she wouldn't like it." Jates shakes her head. "Those things taste kinda awful. She probably will only really eat something fresh." You ask if she thinks the food back at the inn would be good enough. "H-hey! You can't just take food from my stores like that!" You realize that you never actually did ask her if you could do that and stare off of the side, avoiding eye contact. "Y... You've already been taking food, haven't you..." She gets an angry look on her face. "Damn it, that stuff costs gold, ya know! Gah!" With her angry movements, she seemed to have hurt herself a little. "Urgh... F... Fine. I guess it would spoil anyway if no one ate it."

You apologize to her, admitting that you didn't really think when you did it. "Well, I don't plan to keep the inn... Anyway..." She looks back up to you as she changes the subject. "You're... going back to the fortress, right? To save Myla?" You frown at that. This sort of thing is probably stressing her out. You give a hesitant nod. "I see..." She looks over at Bluebell as the harpy inspects one of the beds in the room. The two of you are silent, watching her hop around on the bed before eventually losing her balance and falling off. You can't help but chuckle a little at her antics. "Just... bring her back safe, alright?" You turn back to Jates and give her a nod. She gives you a slightly frustrated look. "And uh... take the harpy somewhere. I... need more sleep." You nod to her with a smile.

Heading out of the room, you are met by Marcus once more. You notice some equipment on his desk. "Your things were stolen, correct?" You nod to him as he motions toward his desk. "I looked around our storage and found a few things. It isn't a lot, but it should help you out until you can get your old equipment back." You thank him as you look over the equipment.

You're actually a bit suspiscious of this. This is all stuff that the local shops sell, and it doesn't really seem like the sort of equipment that would be stored at a guardhouse. You are about to say something when Marcus speaks again. "You're free to use the training grounds as well. With your new body, it would probably be in your best interest to use it. I need to go check on some things. I'll see you this evening." Saying that, the captain leaves. He seems the serious type, but somehow you get the feeling that he's more friendly than he lets on.

With a shrug, you take Bluebell and Garrett to the training ground and spend some time there. During this, you get to finally see Garrett and Bluebell in action, and they both prove to be decent in a fight, though you're pretty certain the harpy just thought you were playing. You practice using weapons in grounded combat using weapons with your wing claws, as well as aerial combat with your talons and magic. It seems to work well as you are quickly getting used to this body.

After getting a quick meal from the inn for Bluebell, which she thankfully eats, you spend some more time resting and digesting. Fighting with this belly probably would be difficult.

Evening approaches, and you watch as a group of soldiers enter the town and head to the barracks. You notice that they also have a wagon with them.

I'm still a bit sick, but I've delayed ARPG posts long enough. This one's a long one, but oh well. :V

Also, poor Jates. She's just too snack sized. :V

For starters, I love this picture, very adorable.

The rations present a problem. We'll either need to teach bluebell to eat them or get fresh food everywhere (eating at an Inn or hunting).

Maybe talk to Marcus about what's in the wagon. Maybe it's something we should know about.

Finally, we should digest the bandit completely if that hasn't been done yet.

Rayen

Posted by Rayen 8 years ago Report

The bandit is digested to the point where we will have no difficulties. :V

RumiBelly

Posted by RumiBelly 8 years ago Report

The rations don't seem to be a problem. Bluebell obviously knows how to hunt on her own, and having a feral around could make camping in the wilderness an option. Also we should stop buying rations and just hunt for food ourselves.(birb mom knows best)

RavenXeo

everyone else needs rations though.

RumiBelly

Rayen

This is true, though our allies tend to carry around 10 rations. It's always a good idea to carry some extras in case of emergencies.

I don't really care about Myla, and we have a much better companion now. Jates seems to be doing fine, otherwise I would stick around a bit longer(but she's okay so lets get away).

joe354

Posted by joe354 8 years ago Report

I actually jump a bit about bluebell eating Jates. We really need to train after this fight.
But with the fight tell Garret to focus on the archers while bluebell and us use the skies to fight and look Myla.

AnominableBreadman

Posted by AnominableBreadman 8 years ago Report

Oh god, I really hope Myla isn't in that wagon in pieces or worse, I'd be so mad I would rain hellfire upon this world.

We may as well investigate the wagon. In addition, we may need to clarify for Bluebell that she can't go eating anyone in general unless we deem it acceptable, that way it'll save us lots more trouble so she doesn't go around calling everyone food before we clarify that they are not. It will take some time, but I know we will de-feralize her, we just have to keep teaching the wittle birb.

Demicus

Posted by Demicus 8 years ago Report

Definitely need to keep an eye on Bluebell. She's sweet, but more of a pet than an actual companion.

Bright side, we've got AIR SUPPORT! Bwahahahah!

As for Marcus, I get the feeling that either their guards are woefully under-supplied and under-funded (which considering the town was shrinking and partially corrupt is a possibility), or he just bought those things for you out of his own pocket.

Jondo

Get better soon, bud.

Can't wait to introduce Bluebell to Myla after this. I wonder how they'll react to each other. Especially since Myla's got a little something extra. Wait, if you introduced us to her to prepare us for a feral Myla, I'm actually gonna be upset.

We should thank Marcus for the equipment again, and ask him whats in the wagon. In the time before we leave and during the trip, we should teach Bluebell about bandits and more about friend vs foe. I don't want to see her try to hug a bandit and get hurt.

KinoTheCat

we should head over to the soldiers and join them in the attack on the bandit's fort. We should also try and see if the... two soldiers we met a while ago (The drake and... other one I can't remember D: ) are with them. Seeing a familiar face should be reassuring.

Thagrahn

Yay, someone else remembers the drake and dwarf!

Would be good to have familiar faces in the crowd, and they didn't get to be part of the last fight.

37 views on my Blog RPG idea, but no votes or comments? I'm feeling no love there.

Bluebell needs to learn two more words before we get close to the bandit fort. "Ally" (Helps, not food, friend, and no hugs) and "Enemy" (hurts, dangerous, but maybe food).

davidargall

OK, on program it seems...
Assure Jates we will pay for anything eaten
The captain may be hitting on us. Encourage him. Nothing blatant. Myla has veto rights, and while she has shown no jealousy, there is a good chance she would, and so we limit ourselves to a kiss of thanks that may be a little too long or close... Definitely friendly, but not clearly "friendly".
Remind captain that the bandits are behaving very "stupidly". Bandits usually run from soldiers, and then come back when the soldiers go away. Standing and fighting usually superior forces means even more soldiers are send if the bandits win. So this is insane, unless... they could have a very big ace in the hole... Like that Ancient is going to help them...
We can't call off the attack. The bandits may have just gotten hold of a keg of booze and have drunken most of it. But we do need to be alert and careful. We can provide some aerial scouting for one thing.
Add to Bluebell's vocabulary "Yes" and "no" are prime, but a few others would help. Bluebell seems pretty bright, but she needs a lot of education.
High priority, get rest. It may be a long night.
Feed Bluebell before we report to barracks. We don't want her getting hungry when there are soldiers to eat.
When we report, introduce as many as we can to Bluebell as "friend". And make general sweep of all as "friend".
Might as well ask about the wagon, but we have a lot to do, so it is low priority.

Kartomic

Posted by Kartomic 8 years ago Report

Hmm, I wonder if that wagon has a tamed monster or something in it
Well, time to introduce a new word to Bluebell's vocabulary, since I don't think the soldiers would take kindly to become NG hugged. Teach her what an Ally is: not food, like friend, but don't hug.
It may also be worth telling Bluebell about Myla before we assault the fortress, as we don't want her caught in the crossfire. Have Garrett or Floria draw a picture of Myla, and make sure Bluebell knows she's a friend.

paltiel

Posted by paltiel 8 years ago Report

Agreeing with this and Thagrahn's idea above (Bluebell words: 'Ally', 'Enemy').

Also, make some sandwiches to carry around- for Bluebell.

-----
Poor snack, er.. Jates. She doesn't want a tummy hug, despite how good they can be. Her loss.

Lastly, those spats (?) look good on Bluebell.

lordamaterasu03

Bluebell is a nice feral and we trained her well but unless we're really committed to teaching her everything and make it a sure thing she won't just eat random strangers.

we should think of maybe letting her go back to the wild maybe we'll cross paths again but I don't really feel it be safe to keep her around forever. things went sour the last time and I only really have faith in Mayla since she seems to always be right by our side and she's been a bit softer about making us cause trouble even in her condition.

also investigate the cart to be sure it's nothing that we have to be concerned with.

Tell Jates, how much we paid for the doctor. She owes us a lot of food.

Let's head for the fortress with the soldiers. Since the bandits allready sprung their trap on us, there is absolutly nothing that could happen this time.^^ So after we picked up Myla, we should introduce her to Bluebell and have some fun.^^

Secondly, I read this from cover to cover all today because I enjoyed it and i patiently wait for more.
Thirdly, I enjoy the risks involved in the choices and I hope my inputs can drive this story forward along with the rest.
Forthly, May steel line thy path.
Fithly, we must make haste to rescue our companion above all else durring the assault. All loot and rewards are secondary. We absolutely need to secure Myla's safety first before exacting our vengeance.

These two are gonna be bestfriends, i can tell :p.

Carry Jates and fly with bluebell, we can bypass the battle and leave it to the soldiers, Marcus, and Garret well we slip into the fort proper all sneaky like. Were racing against a clock to find Myla and a lot of time has passed already. Once we have here we can attack the bandits from behind well they are fighting!

A relationship is 2 sides and we are both at the fault. We must be prepared for whatever needs mending, emotions or otherwise.

While I agree with this, it was originally our fault. We spat Edris up instead of digesting her.
