> Prepare to cast Stone Shield
You prepare to cast a Stone Shield to block Edris from either Myla or yourself, depending on what she does. Your focus glove allows you to cast quicker, so you are able to wait to see what she does first. You glance over towards Garrett and you see the centaur tightly gripping his firearm. It would seem he's ready to pull off a shot, but is just waiting for an opening for him to aim and fire. Deciding to see if you can get him an opening, you speak up, breaking the silence. You ask Edris what she's planning.
"Planning?" Her expression doesn't change. "I'm planning to kill you. And the wolf." She glances towards the centaur. "Him. The dogs of the Alliance. The cowards who once called me comrade." She glares back at you. "The bastard who left this crystal here. Everyone." Her voice is getting more angry. "Everyone who's ever taken from me!" Her voice gets a bit quieter as she looks over at the dead elf nearby. "I already killed my brother. He wanted to run." So the boss was her brother. She didn't even have mercy towards him. Edris begins to shout again. "You bastards have taken everything from me! My home, my parents! Even the boss! The one who took me in when you cast me out!"
You call out to her, telling her that the crystal she holds is what killed Nysk. "I know." She glances towards the glowing crystal in her hand. "The Ancient told us what these were. We were nothing but an experiment to him."
"That crystal..?!" One of the soldiers turns to you. "Is that what the old bandit leader was killed by? This is bad." He turns to the other soldier. "Inform the commander! Go!" The other soldier nods, taking a few steps back before turning and running out the door you entered. Edris doesn't move.
"These crystals hold some sort of power." The elf continues as none of you dare to make a move yet. "They supposedly are to unlock potential. Couldn't ever find anyone fully compatible though. Sometimes it would work for a while though..." She pauses for a moment, glancing at each of you, tightly gripping the crystal.
You suddenly realize that the crystal is cracking. You don't know what will happen when it breaks, so you yell for Garrett to shoot. With a quick jolt, the centaur lifts his rifle and fires off a shot. His aim is close, but not enough, just barely grazing Edris' arm. You cast a Stone Shield over Myla. If nothing else, it'll protect her a little.
The crystal shatters in the elf's hand as light travels into her arm. Trails of glowing blue course across Edris' body. You expect her arm to explode into crystal like Nysk, but it never does.
"Looks like I'm compatible." Saying that, the elf lifts her hand. A moment later, a bolt of blue light fires out, slamming against the wall above the doorway behind you. Rubble collapses down, blocking the doorway. There's now a hole above the door where you could fly out, but your allies are trapped! There is also the door that the larger bandit escaped through, but that lies next to Edris...
That bolt reminded you of the "Ancient" and his magic. The bolt looked smaller and travelled slower, but you still feel like you don't want to get hit by it.
Even with it just being one person, you can tell that this will not be an easy battle.
-----
All you guys acting like Edris was gonna use the crystal on Myla. Do you really think I'm THAT evil? :V
I actually didn't even realize that she might could do that until I uploaded the last update. :V
... Not that this result is much better. We might be in for a bad time.

Well let's get really lucky on the next few rolls.
>take Myla and fly up and out, garret can run for the door while Edris is skeet shooting.
Posted by JiklokEmisaryOfSteel 8 years ago Report
This may be our best option but we nay not be able to dodge in the air with Myla. We could at best hope that Eldris misses or that we only get clipped and tumble outside.
Posted by RumiBelly 8 years ago Report
Like I said, roll lucky.
Posted by YesImCanadian 8 years ago Report
*cracks knuckles* Lets do this.
Let's start with trying to blind her. Tell whoever is still with us (Garrett and one soldier I think) to cover their eyes. Then we cast flash. Once she blinded, make our way over to Myla and try to free her.
Posted by JiklokEmisaryOfSteel 8 years ago Report
So it would seem we do not have an ambush to deal with but a formidable force instead. The stone holds great power but perhaps if we weaken Eldris enough it will leach her down. Too much is unknown about the crystal but for certain there is only 2 real options here. Fight long enough to wait for reinforcements from the advanced siege armor, or I fear we may parish. We cannot leave since Eldris planes to anihilate everyone regaurdless of aliegence. Myla would be her first target after destroying Garret and the other soldier. The only advantage we have is numbers which I fear will dwindle very soon. I sugjest Garret shoots and destroys the repeating crossbow. We can't recover it with Eldris able to just as easily destroy us with one blast I expect. This may enrage her though and cause her to focus on Garret. I however would rather deal with slow magical bolts instead of 5 successively fired magic imbued bolts. After the crossbow is destroyed we should dodge as many times as possible to drain Eldris of her energy. Do not take chances with attacks until the siege armor and reinforcements arrive. Directly confronting her now would be death.
May steel line thy path.
Posted by Gutsman25 8 years ago Report
Edris is also limited to one hand (because I don't think that this change will heal her broken arm), so she probably won't be able to use both the crossbow and the spell. We should keep her focus on us as much as possible to make sure she doesn't get a hit off one of our companions. Talking to her as we evade her attacks might be a good idea. Thoughts?

Artistic freedom comrade.
Posted by PowerPigeon 8 years ago Report
She has little claw hands on the ends of her wings so the glove fits on those.
Posted by PowerPigeon 8 years ago Report
I say we fly out of the hole in the wall and drop bombs on the roof. That should cause the roof to collapse on Edris and provide an opening for our allies to climb out of there. We should also cast heal on Myla and tell Garrett to take Myla out with him.
So essentially we just stun Edris by covering her in bricks, then fly the f outta there with our allies in tow. We do that by bombing the ceiling from the outside after flying out the hole in the wall.
Posted by PowerPigeon 8 years ago Report
Then we'll let the soldiers deal with Edris, they're obviously better equipped to do it than we are right now.
Posted by PowerPigeon 8 years ago Report
That's also the fastest way to get Myla out of her chains, by breaking the bricks the chains are connected to, obviously this fortress has fragile architecture. As long as we remember to heal Myla before signalling Garrett and bombing the roof from outside, it should all work out okay.
Posted by JiklokEmisaryOfSteel 8 years ago Report
Or the building collapses, everyone dies, then Eldris climbs out of the rubble. I strongly dissadvise this. The arrival of the siege armor could also do this... the situation gets more difficult as we progress.
Posted by PowerPigeon 8 years ago Report
Bombing the roof couldn't possibly make the entire building to collapse. We're in a giant fortress.
Posted by YesImCanadian 8 years ago Report
Wether we're in the fortress or a building within one of its walls, this place is kind of old. Chances are, it's going to collapse if we do too much damage to it.
Posted by JiklokEmisaryOfSteel 8 years ago Report
We also cannot see inside so we can't "aim" at her. There is no garuntee she would stay in one place let alone just sit and watch the cieling fall. I do not want to downtalk anyone I am just pointing out what could happen.
Posted by PowerPigeon 8 years ago Report
I still say we bomb the roof off. I see no real problem with doing it. Our allies need an opening and we need to make one. We should also knock all the walls in this room down so it's just the floor left. Then everyone outside can shoot at Edris inside and Garrett can run out with Myla.
Posted by PowerPigeon 8 years ago Report
Myla is chained to the wall and we can signal Garrett to stay by the wall or out of the room also. Then we just bomb around the middle of the roof so that we know everything is just landing on Edris.
Posted by PowerPigeon 8 years ago Report
Fact is we're a fragile, agile birb so going to toe to toe with her or trying to talk her down is a waste of time and health. We need to collapse the roof in on her head as phase one, then start making holes in the walls and telling soldiers to shoot her as phase two.
Posted by PowerPigeon 8 years ago Report
The roof holes we make should be from the outside, blasting inward. The wall holes should be made from the inside, blasting outwards, by striking through the holes in the roof. That way the roof lands on Edris and the wall bricks just fly out to the sides, leaving an opening for soldiers to shoot a stunned Edris and for Garrett to run off with Myla, as we hover and start bombing Edris along with the soldiers shooting her.
Posted by Jondo 8 years ago Report
This looks bad. Very bad. Id say we should try to keep Edris talking for a while longer. Hopefully to stall for Marcus to get here with the suit. Prep a rock grenade just in case.
Tell her we didn't abandon her. We took her in despite her past. We offered her a chance to start over. To prevent tragedies like the one she suffered. And how did she repay us? She repaid our kindness by leaving us for dead and taking the ones we care about. How does that make you any better than the ones you hate so much?
Maybe it'll buy us a little more time.
Posted by Topazert 8 years ago Report
I second this.
Posted by YesImCanadian 8 years ago Report
I agree, the more time we waste the higher our chances are that Marcus will get here with the armor. We should remain vigilant. She might not want to talk anymore.
If talking fails, then we should try my flash idea, granted she can still be affected by such an attack.
Posted by AnominableBreadman 8 years ago Report
You guys are forgetting that Myla is sitting right there helpless, if we don't get Myla out of there, Edris will just shoot her, how could you not notice that?!?! Talking is fine when our friend isn't in jeopardy, the last thing we want is to have her turn her attention on Myla.
Posted by Jondo 8 years ago Report
We threw up a stone shield around Myla in this update. It should buy us enough time to get over to Myla if Edris focuses on her. The problem is she's chained to the wall. We don't have a key, and we can't metal bend unfortunately. Garrett might be able to break the chains, but he'll be BBQ horse meat before he gets the chance. The only exit out that all of us can leave through is behind Edris. We're just in a really bad spot without Bluebell or Marcus. I can't think of a better option than trying to distract Edris and keep her focus on us.

So, its YOUR fault. I'm kiddin. We did everything right by Edris after that point. Well, after the whole rapey thing I wasn't comfortable with. We gave her a chance to be "good," but she didn't want it. Heck, I'm not sure she's sane right now seeing as she just killed her brother.

Posted by PowerPigeon 8 years ago Report
Alright, theory time. If any post needs a theory it's this one.
With Edris' rant I get the impression that this isn't just a mandatory boss battle, it's actually a decision point in the story. We can choose to betray the alliance and side with Edris, or just blindly obey everything the alliance feeds to us, because we've only heard one side of the story.
If I felt like we could get away with it I would actually ally with Edris and turn against the alliance at this point. They seem like the real bad guys... think about it, they're this big ominous entity and the bandits are just a small group of rebels. We're on the wrong side. That's the reason we were suspicious of Marcus earlier.
This is very much like UNATCO in Deus Ex. We can stick with our establishment faction, because we think they're 'good by default', or we can side with the 'terrorists' who turn out to have legitimate grievances with the government they're fighting against.
It's also kind of like the NCR vs. Caesar's Legion in New Vegas. While Caesar's Legion's methods were questionable they were ultimately working towards a noble end by brutal means.
If Edris would listen to reason right now we should offer to join her and fight against 'The Alliance'. Failing that we'd just have to bomb the roof and walls off like I said.
Posted by PowerPigeon 8 years ago Report
Then again last time we tried to join them it was just 'nope it's a trap lol', so it feels like we're just railroaded into siding with one faction with no option to defect and become awesome bandits.

Hmm let's try to maintain distance while firing magic that can produce short range shrapnel from the material it hits and if there's a room below that would help too as it will help us gain more of a safety zone for Myla as we might be able to make edris become cornered between falling below or remain on unstable footing, making her a bit more distracted and might give a chance to take her by surprise.

Or we can just, you know, bust Myla out of her chains, have garret get her out of there and send the entire tower down on Edris.
Personally I like the first idea :V
Posted by BloodKnight 8 years ago Report
Quick use talk-no-jutsu to convince her she wont be happy if keeps down such a destructive path.
Plus since she can use the stones theres a good chance the ancient one will dispose of her at first chance or experiment on her.
Posted by PowerPigeon 8 years ago Report
Y'know I just realised Garrett is not helpful in this fight, he's actually in the way. If we got him and Myla out of the way we could attack more freely without fear of hitting either of them.
So first we clear the rubble from the exit by bombing it, then we tell Garrett to run off with Myla, saying we'll handle this alone, then we fly out the hole in the roof and bomb the roof of the room Edris is in.
That way Garrett and Myla can escape while Edris is distracted and we can then either fly away or continue to fight her from an aerial combat position.
We would then be in a much better position than we are right now. Trying to fight from this current position is certain suicide.
Posted by PowerPigeon 8 years ago Report
By the way that new position, of hovering above Edris, once Garrett and Myla are out of here, could also be used as a negotiating position instead of a fighting position. We could just talk things through with her while dodging projectiles. Such are the advantages of Birbism.
"You were the chosen one, Edris! You were meant to unite the bandits, not destroy them!"
"From my perspective it is the alliance who are evil!"
Then after a while, and a lot of spamming charisma checks in mid-air, one of our persuasion attempts might work on her. I call it brute force negotiation, keep making persuasion attempts from a safe distance until she comes around to your way of thinking.

Dude-bro 11 got outside to tell the commander we need his siege armor. Her blasts may not be powerful enough to break it, but he should be here in a few rounds, and that would be a big distraction.
Now, no guarantees that this kills her quickly enough to matter, unfortunately, so we'll need to scope her abilities. Garrett, being a large target in an enclosed space, should be told to be ready to dodge, I don't wanna see him get hurt. He should take potshots if he has the chance. Or a blunderbuss.
As for us, is this the great hall? If it is, we'll have room to fly up and we can try to distract her. If not, we're going to need a creative spell. Maybe whisper a warning to the crew and then Flash her?

Fly out of the hole in the roof and come back in from the door next to her for a surprise attack~
Posted by Lordpisces14 8 years ago Report
I don't like how Edris is controlling the pace of things.
I say we try to use stone magic to open up a hole in the floor beneath her( act all dignified and intimidating down there will you?). I don't think we've been creative enough with our magic use.
If she falls in, we close the hole on top of her. this probably will not kill her but it should delay her for a turn and get her really mad. In the delay we have Garrett and the soldier take Myla and run while we stay and keep Edris busy; using our harpy abilities to evade her attacks.
If she does not fall in the hole then she will still be really mad and might not bother with Garrett and the soldier. They may be able to rescue Myla and leave us to battle Edrith one on one. If we reach that point we use our mobility and area of effect spells to keep alive and fighting.
I really like that our path is determined by who is most creative. It give newcomers like me some chance.

Well, let's see, here. I would do the following: As the others have suggested, see if we can keep her talking. If she attempts to attack us, or Myla, bomb part of the ceiling above her (not the one above us, that would b even worse). I expect she will shoot her beam of destruction towards the falling debris to nullify the damage, but that's fine. It will create a distraction.
As she wastes her shoot on the falling debris, Garret has to aim at her and try and hit her. The more serious the injury is, the better. I doubt a single arrow will finish her off, but we need to weaken her and probably enrage her even more.
While Edris is hit by the arrow and distracted with the falling ceiling, Floria tries to fly over towards Myla and check up on her. if it looks like she can be moved safely, carry her out of harms way. If it looks like she is too injured, a quick healing spell to keep her alive for onger, just in case.
At any rate, we will be at her side, and thus, able to defend her more properly and stop Edris from taking her as a hostage, should she feel like resorting to such a cheap tactic if things go south for her.
As for the remaining soldier? I doubt he will be of much use other than the occasional meat shiel, so let's just let him flail wildly while the protagonists do their stuff.

> Start yelling random recall codes on the off chance that she might be a synth.
Posted by davidargall 8 years ago Report
IGNORE MYLA. She is just meat for this fight, and there is no reason for Edris to finish her off while we are standing around. Attempts to rescue Myla will just draw attention, and danger, to her. And since she is chained up, there is no way to rescue her without exposing her to worse danger than she might be in.
Wave to Garrett and soldier to spread out, so it will take at least 3 shots to dispose of us.
Talk. Stay ready to dodge of course But the main thing is to keep talking, about anything really. Just try to keep her talking. Talk in a calm, soothing voice, but we have allies, powerful ones, coming. So every moment she talks or listens is a plus for us.
Tell her she doesn't have to do this, that her punishment won't be too bad, that it might even go away entirely since she has this power and can talk about the ancient, that she is just hurting herself... Whatever will keep her not attacking. We just want to stall for now. If she wants us to beg for our life, fine, beg, at least until help arrives, but keep her from fighting.
If fighting does start, we should dodge and cast. Flare seems a good choice, if we warn the others. Myla rules out grenade or other area effects. Flying and taunting may be good strategy. We are likely the hardest to hit.
Garrett is a big easy target. Maybe he and the soldier should just charge, from different directions, to get into melee with her, But Garrett's next shot might kill, and the soldier may have ranged shots too. In either case, our job is to be difficult annoying target to distract Edris.
Posted by joe354 8 years ago Report
Talk to stall for time for back up. Then let Garret let go another arrow but this time imbue some magic on it.

OK, my theory line didn't work out. A shame.
The Ancient told them what the crystals were. Presumably that was before Nysk was killed, if it was an "ongoing" experiment. It also finally gives an explanation for what Edris was after when she wanted to get back to the fortress.
And we now have an explanation for why she wanted to get the other bandits together to re-take the place. Presumably it was for a "just in case" fallback in the event some other group had taken control of the fortress, and that "other group" was almost certainly the portion led by her brother, who probably was considered Nysk's former second-in-command or some such, which makes him the new overall boss.
So, Edris assumes her brother is taking over the old fortress, and she won't be able to just walk in and grab what she wants. However she also knows that the bandit group was pretty split up after that ambush, so her brother can't have too many people on site. Thus she pulls in extra assistance from the adventurers she's with, plus whatever bandits that got arrested that she can free.
She acquires the crystal she wanted, and then tries to convince the bandits to fight the Alliance soldiers. They, however, are having none of that. They're bandits, not freedom fighters. They're used to the game of getting arrested and escaping, and would rather not do the "fight to the death" thing.
Edris has got anger issues, and she has a /cause/. Everyone's against her, so she's against everyone. And while we have given her our trust, we're not really in a good position to argue with her.
Now, the question of why Myla was held hostage: It wasn't as a hostage; she was just being punished for betraying the bandits. They had no particular higher motive. Her current condition also suggests they haven't given her any new potions, so at least that's not a concern.
For Floria... Only thing I can think of is that they just wanted to torment her by leaving her out in the wilds, running around helpless, knowing that she wouldn't be able to help her friends before she died. A lingering death, rather than a quick knife to the gut.
So everything falls in line. Cheap, petty motives, instead of larger, overarching plans.
So I guess accepting and trusting you wasn't worth anything, eh?
Well, I suppose it's nice that you're making this easier on us. If you'd really been willing to work with us, we might have been able to get the crystal working with the power armor, and then you might have actually had a chance when fighting against the Ancient, instead of just trying to beat him with a weaker version of his own power.
Actions: Use that birb ability to Dodge! Keep up conversation during the fight. Keep her focus split between you and Garrett, since you both have high speed.
Posted by DeityV 8 years ago Report
We need to get Myla out of danger. I say we use a rockbomb to blow open an escape route. Then Garrett can scoop Myla up and escape through there. Since we are Birb we can fly out through hole in the roof. There we can regroup and confront Crystal Edris in a more favorable environment.

Er.. rambling post ahead. Ye've been warned. ^_^
Better minds than this one will figure out what tactics to take. Pesky Spring flu.
Darn. It would've been nice to have Edris (plus powers) stay in the party. Taking on Mr. floating, glowy blue guy would've been more interesting that way. But no, she had to embrace her inner yandere and go all glowy blue, instead. Her anger sounds totally justified, too.
Saddening...
She really needs a warm fluffy hug, followed by a wild night with our centaur and two dozen EN potions, culminating in an orgasm so strong, it blows her half way through the roof. That'd perk her right up, and maybe fix her mind.
Posted by PowerPigeon 8 years ago Report
We really should still try to make her snap out of it, by perhaps defeating her without killing her, or just talking her down somehow. She's too cool. :c
Posted by paltiel 8 years ago Report
Maybe try pulling those crystals out of her arm? Y'know, hit the boss three times in its weak spot to defeat it-esque..?
Posted by Kartomic 8 years ago Report
Direct confrontation will result in death, so it's time for some circle strafing. Keep moving around the outside of the room, firing of spells, and dodging as need be.
Also, keep in mind that she's fought us before, and likely knows some of our tricks. We'll need to think outside the box for this fight. Our ultimate goal should be surviving long enough for that seige armor to arrive, at which point the tables may be turned.
Now, if we ate her, would some of that über mojo transfer to us?
Posted by The-Lonely-Gamefreak 8 years ago Report
Great, a flying vs an electric type. This is gonna be fun. =_=Alright, we got one soldier, an unconscious Miya, a peeved Garrett, a birb, and a potential afro bandit.
Now would be the best time to use that bandit, seeing as everyone around her is on her hit list. She still has a broken arm, unless that crystal will heal her instead of draining her, so we got a major weak point to cripple her further. Issue is getting close to do so. Perhaps have Garrett circle around and try to shoot at her, having the bandit try to pin her down?
What weapon(s) is the one soldier equipped with?
Us, on the other hand? Well, if we got to Myla, Edris will turn and pick her off quickly with a single bolt. Keep distance and cast flash to catch her off gaurd before anything else happens.
