Yeah, its something I noticed, having played the first game. XD
I mean I understand why they did it(Cut down unnecessary characters and all) but its a shame to see some of the characters disappear. I wonder though if they would bring back someone like Helga though or not.
I do find it odd that they only mentioned neftin instead of just having mention of both prog twins, but I do hope that some characters will be brought back. No doubt they will be re imagined as well.

the sight of that door that said characters not appearing in the remake made me laugh a little, not sure if that is a bad thing XD
