I wonder if it was intended this story be such... direct counterpoint to the last. The last, it felt, emphasised that the system only works in theory if the prey are honest in their sorting... and showed they are not. And this showed it also only works in theory if the predators have full mastery of their instincts... and showed they do not.
Ah, it always makes me a little sad when such sweet characters meet, such tragically unpredicted deaths thrust into their reality

One thing I notice is that in all these stories/webcomics/cartoons, everyone always follows the rules without question and nobody ever tries to game the system in their favor. I imagined it would be quite common and possible to make problematic individuals disappear, and the powers that be wouldn't want the general public to know how easy it was.

You know, I'm surprised I didn't see the next step for Cali...you can't just leave a witness like that around, after all.
And poor Sam and Danny, that whole thing really couldn't have gone worse.

Loose ends do have to be tied up. And each removal has the potential to create yet more of them.

Very true. Though there's only one more chapter? Not sure how you'll wrap up your own loose ends in one more chapter! But I'm looking forward to finding out.
Danny's best hope is Sam's being related to Vana meaning something..

Yep, one more. And yes, Sam and Vana being relatives will definitely matter.
