Here's the thing that inspired me the most, right after getting a program that actually allows me to draw it without a huge amount of hassle.
Wouldn't recommend trying to do ALL of it to start, but most of the principles make a degree of sense on their face anyway, so you probably already have a feeling for all of them anyway.

Well, know the basics first. Figure out how to use the timeline function, how to make an animation folder, and how to enable/disable/customize onion skin settings. They also recently added keyframe stuff, which is what "tweening" was in Flash, but I haven't bothered to learn how that works yet 'cuz I never liked the look tweening had.
Oh, and if you want to make an animation that's more than a second or two long, you need the EX version. It goes on sale a lot if you haven't gotten it yet. :)

Yeah, been debating whether or not it's a good investment, even on sale. If you recommend it, then it must be worth!
I mean, I'll practice basics like you said, first, but hopefully I can make my way forward quickly

Yeah, of all non-subscription programs, I think it's the best. I'm not certain it's the best animating software, but if you want to do a little of everything, I do highly recommend it.
