3 from what i understand, all worker class insects from the family hymenoptra (bees, ants, wasps, etc.) are female, only the lucky few eggs that got fertilized at the first and only mating of the queen actually become males. To my recollection.
Can anyone explain where this technical futzing is coming from?
Actually, all workers are female. The males in the colony are called Drones, and simply sit around, using up honey, until it's time for mating. Rather unflattering. But anyway, good pic.
