Hi Everyone. Sorry for the wait, but here is the new version of Pacha’s Quest, featuring lots of bug fixes and predatory nagas in the free version, while patreon supporters get access to the next area and some extra content and side quests in Trader’s Town. More updates and content to come as they are developed although progress on the hive might take a while as it requires a lot of new artwork.
It should be possible to keep any progress made in the previous versions by copying the save files into the new version’s directory.

Edit: Oooops, I just noticed that I left the east area in Traders Town locked in the Patreon version. That should be fixed now.
Edit 2: And the Otter's Village was also locked. Urg! There were two things that were supposed to be added to the patreon version in this update and I somehow manged to mess them both up. It should be fixed now though.

Ooooooh! Now I just gotta set aside the time to give it a proper go!

Thanks. I hope you enjoy it.

A delightful addition! I enjoyed it quite a lot. Decided to go as far as starting a full-carnivore save file, so I have two runs through the most recent content.
And now for notes:
-Naga stomachs seem to occasionally have a healing effect; if somebody is at 0HP and gets eaten by a naga, and they wriggle their way out, they sometimes come out with 1HP. Possibly intentional, figured I'd mention it.
-Reading the diary before accepting the quest seems to confuse some of the dialogue; talking to the questgiver again after turning it in seems to imply I ate the wrong person first, which I couldn't even figure out how to do.
-In my low-carnivore, fast-quest pass the hat shop changed ownership before I went in there the first time and the dialogue implied I'd met them before and knew the previous shopkeeper.

Yeah, that was semi-deliberate. If a character is at 0 hp then they can't have any other states attached which causes various problems, so unless I work out a way around that, I think the interpretation will just have to be that being squeezed downsomeone's esophagus is enough to wake up an unconscious character.
Whooops. I'll look into that and see what is wrong with it.
Hmmmm, I'll try to get that fixed soon as well.
Thanks for catching those errors.

Played through the new stuff tonight! Man, I got Emerald Weapon flashbacks. I'm not sure if it's possible to change, and frankly it may go against the theme of the situation, but that timer ticking down did make me want to skip or at least rush the dialog.
Or maybe that's my fault for not setting up properly.
My only note is that Seal Friend seems to think you took the ball instead of the prize regardless.
All in all, another fun addition to the game! The plot definitely thickens.

Yeah, having so much dialogue while the player was on a timer was a little cruel. I did make it so that if you beat the boss with less than a minute to spare, Pacha cuts the end dialogue short instead of properly rubbing her victory in but the opening dialogue is still a problem. I might look into making it so the timer pauses during the conversations, but will have to see how possible that is. The controls Rpgmaker provides for the timer are a little crude.
Also, I will try to get the seal’s dialogue fixed soon. Thanks for catching that and glad you are enjoying the story so far.

Super pleased to see this game continue to progress on!

Thanks Arta, and thanks for helping playtest and catch the many bugs in this as well.

I love that if your teammate got digested they will actually be removed from your party, hehe.
I feel it's too random right now tho, I had to keep guarding yet the naga still wouldn't eat me or they'd try and fail instantly.
Maybe giving some skills similar to 'surrender' to our party members would be helpful.
Great work anyway! Can't wait to see more of this game~

Glad you like that feature. There are definitely a lot of ways to lose allies along the way (especially for poor Martin). Also, I have been playing with the idea of individual members having a surrender ability, but the way rpgmaker is structured makes it a little tricky to implement, particularly as there are plenty of enemies that don’t have a devour ability (or only have it outside of combat). Still, I’ll see if I can find a way around that.

ooh. Can't wait to try it, curse my lack of free time

Thanks. I hope things get a little more relaxed soon and that you enjoy it.

I finally got a chance for a good play... Patreon version, for reference. Only crashed twice ^^; first with with the squirrel's double shot, and second... when I chose the... party friendly method of recruiting the new character in the eastern district, my party was full and it crashed when he tried to go to the inn... I also notice there isn't a spot for him there, so, maybe that's the reason?
I also found the purple lines from the graveyard didn't leave my screen after the final battle there... I tried going back and passing through a few transfer events but it didn't go away... something wrong with the removal trigger? Also noticed for the otters the, bridge builder's face is human in the, beside bridge version.
As an aside, I'd love a hint for the whole... naga investigation. I have done everything I can think of but I'm getting nowhere... does it have resolution yet? I tried poking around every edge I could find in the forest for secret passages to hidden info, I interacted with everything I could think of in the houses. I'm assuming you can spike her drink with some sort of potion but I couldn't find any hint on recipies either. Also the alcohol you put in never seems to leave unless you manually extract it... doesn't get mixed.

An update. Did figure out how to mix the right potion... easier than I was making it, though still feels unsatisfying to end the quest that way...
Speaking of naga though. Having completed all I could I embarked on the epic quest of feeding my entire party to naga... and what an ordeal it was ^^; I adore the scenario of, enemies being able and intent on eating party members mid combat, or pre-combat. But those naga are hopeless. As amusing as it was to see unconcious party members both nimbly dodge and wriggle free, and to see a character literally seduced and already swallowed, wriggle their way out. The legions of naga defeated to exhaustion... the only way they pose any threat is if you refuse to fight, and wait patiently... eventually some naga will succeed. Jokes aside, if they're to be capable of digesting party members, it would seem sensible to make it... easier. If it's nigh impossible to see a character eaten when you're trying your best, what chance is there if you're actually bothering to fight. Even on the off chance they eat a party member, assuming they try to, don't miss and keep them down past the first turn... they still have three or four turns during which the party member can wriggle themselves free. If you're fighting one... it's not going to take that long to kick their scaly tails ^^; and that is the minimum time it takes them to steal a party member, and a highly improbable minimum at that.

Hmmm, that’s weird. I’ll have a look at the double shot ability and see if I can find out what could be causing that as well as why it crashes when Felgate tries to go to the inn. The spot for him to wait at definitely shows up when he is recruited successfully (at least assuming I haven’t broken anything recently), but I don’t think I tested recruiting him with a full party properly. (This is also assuming you meant Felgate and not the other recruitable character in Traders Town? If not, then I already found that the game often crashes when she is recruited, but her whole area was supposed to be sealed off specifically because of that.)
I’ll check and see what is going on with the lines in the graveyard. You’re not the first person to notice that, but I thought I’d fixed it. Something is definitely wrong there. Also, thanks for catching the otter’s face. I used the human profiles as placeholders before drawing the otters and must have missed replacing that one. Also, at some point I am hoping to swap some of their sprites to less human looking ones, but still haven’t finished drawing those yet.
Thanks for catching the alcohol thing. I’ll try to get that fixed soon. Also, I might have to make it a little more obvious how to make the correct potion. At the start the idea was that you would get the chaos potion for any mix that didn’t result in something more useful, but given that there is actually a reason to want to make one, it should probably have a hint relating to it somewhere. There is a second way to end that quest that doesn’t involve eating the naga at all and might give a more satisfying resolution.
As for the nagas I might have to boost that attack a little. I kind of erred on the side of caution given that they are supposed to be a fairly early game enemy and can permanently remove a character from the game. Then again, I guess that’s what save files are for.
Thanks for playing through the game so far, and for catching those bugs to fix. I hope you’re enjoying it and will try to get the next version out soon.

To clarify, I didn't mean Felgate... the kitty rather than the doggy. I was trying too hard to not be spoilery I guess.
Also think I realised it wasn't the alcohol but rather whatever the second item is, I played around to find the right potion... but as for the other way to solve the naga thing... I gathered there must be, since there was so much emphasis on finding proof, for or against, then that solution is sort of the... ignore investigating route. But I still simply cannot find the other way to end the quest... I feel like I've looked everywhere. Thought I was onto something when I realised the naga's house was the only one you could go behind, poking around for hidden doorways or paths (also how I even realised the kitty's section existed) I'm hopelessly lost >_<

Oops, forgot to add. The double shot crash happened specifically in the graveyard battle with the little mancer. Had one zombie at the time, in case that helps narrow anything down.
Posted by BizzareBlue 4 years ago Report
Yeah, Ti's whole area was supposed to be inaccessible until I could get her working a little smoother, but it turns out there was also a bug in the part that was supposed to prevent access to that part.
As for the naga's quest, one hint might be to try some of the other houses, especially for anyone who seems suspicious and might have left some incriminating evidence lying around.
And I think I've fixed the problems with the double shot now, as well as a few other things, and will try to upload an updated version in the next day or so.

Super jealous that y'all get to play what looks like a great game! Any chance there will be a Mac version?
Posted by BizzareBlue 4 years ago Report
Unfortunately, the software I’m using to make it only builds games for windows. It might be possible to get it running under wine but I haven’t tested that. Sorry.

I adore many of the concepts and alternative routes one is able to take in this game. I do have a couple question.
Is it possible for another party member to learn an ability that weakens will power like Pacha can, or is unique to her?
Is there only one opportunity for originally-prey characters to turn pred or will other opportunities arise? I mainly ask in the case of Sichi.
Posted by BizzareBlue 4 years ago Report
Thanks. I’m glad you’re enjoying it.
I am planning to give the other characters some will-draining abilities eventually, but I think it’s always going to be a skill that Pacha is better at than the others.
Also, right now there is only one way to unlock both Martin and Sichi’s carnivorous sides (and none at all for Nahata) but I am planning to add a few more more ways wherever I can find an opportunity that suits their characters. Having to choose between losing Vir or Sichi never being able to eat people definitely isn’t ideal.
Posted by The-Lonely-Gamefreak 4 years ago Report
Fantastic to hear on all fronts! Definitely understand that the lead has the most effectiveness in using the will-draining skills and glad about being able to have Sichi become pred without losing a good, fast-paced party member.
Can't wait to see what more is to come in later developments!

Awesome update! One thing I noticed is the 'bag of alchemy supplies' in the naga's house never runs out, so you pretty much get infinite money. Also, from the dialogue with other characters, it implies you can eat her but I couldn't find a way. Do you have any hints?
Posted by BizzareBlue 4 years ago Report
Ooops, thank you. The alchemy bag is definitely not supposed to do that. As for eating the naga, try experimenting with a few different alchemy potions for a bit, then see what else can be interacted with in her house.
Posted by Grapefruitvenison 4 years ago Report
Thanks, I worked it out. I think the dialogue is mixed up between whether you eat both, or the single person (I'm being vague to avoid spoilers). When I ate both, the guy was thinking of ways to apologise, whereas when I ate one, he was distraught that an innocent was eaten.
Posted by BizzareBlue 4 years ago Report
ooops. Thanks for catching that as well. I'll try to get it fixed soon.
