he has to keep up a good public image for a variety of reasons, but in private, it's another story entirely. anyone other than his friends or the other Rune Heroes who finds out too much about his true nature is probably going to end up in this position. he can't have rumors getting out, after all... and if he has to eat people to shut them up, so be it. it isn't really a 'last resort', either; the bastard actually really enjoys it, and revels in teasing and berating his prey to the fullest extent. he's not especially big or strong, to be fair, but being a ghost has its perks... and so does knowing how to hypnotize people.
yeah, he basically just cheats to win, what else would you even expect? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ being able to mind control people into feeding themselves to him just makes it even more fun, albeit also a lot more humiliating for his meals. and if they don't feel embarrassed enough about falling victim to his bullshit, he'll go out of his way to make sure they do before they're done melting.

yeah!! honestly this was probably some of the most fun i've had in ages with a pokemon design, spiritomb just has SUCH a nice color palette. the little orbs in his hair actually circle around slowly, since it's not really normal 'hair' to begin with, though sadly i can't really convey that in a static image. :'>
