Not just that Dragon. This is the time when the Ashlands are about to - as the kids say - get wrecked by Ash on her break from empire-ruling. And the male Dragon that flew north is probably about to get bodied by ten or so jolly, ol' beefy buccaneers.

I personally have a fascination with luck, hence Lauren and Franklin/Oflehxun. When it comes to these short pieces, they usually exist to indulge moods that wouldn't work well with wherever I am in the plot of my main works, so I don't have to get attached to the characters invented for them.

Not entirely. It's more that I don't feel bad about offing a character that exists solely in a piece meant to satisfy my arousal. You are correct, though, that named characters tend to be safer. That wasn't always the case, though. In early AHYU, I had thoughts about sending Strea, Rita, and Melody to the chopping block, because this grand scale idea hadn't developed.
