Sometimes you just need a moment to take a step back, take a breath, and maybe spend a prolonged period of time laying in bed.

It's crazy how life can go from- well- crazy, to calm so quickly. But even when the world slows down, your head can keep spinning just as fast. Forced apart by their own actions and the workings of what can easily be called a very cruel world, Jack and Fiona have this short moment to reflect and recover. But the reprieve wont last long. The question is: what comes next? Will the pressure let up because some stops pushing? Or will it let up because someone finally snaps?

I said two stories earlier that 'every good storm needs a moment of calm first'. I didn't mention that this storm is a hurricane. The previous story was just the first half. This is the eye; a moment of clear skies surrounded by towering walls of dark, threatening clouds. The second half of the storm is closing in fast.

I want to give a huge thanks to all you readers- and particularly you commenters- for making this series so fun to write. I get more interaction on these stories than I could have hoped for (mostly on Eka's) and I love getting to chat with you all about the these characters and watch them evolve with you. And I want to give an extra-huge thanks to co-creator  x9comega for coming up with this premise and pulling me in for the ride. You're all about to see the culmination of a lot of planning in these next couple stories. They're just about done, just a few finishing touches to make sure they're as perfect as can be. When they're ready, this is where you'd find them:

I hope you'll forgive me for saying I now think Fiona is an imbecile.

5UP3RN0V4

Posted by 5UP3RN0V4 2 years ago Report

Imbecile? Nope. More like blinded by her love for Arthur.

Shadow0000

Posted by Shadow0000 2 years ago Report

I agree. Though I see this as a form of dominance from Arthur towards Fiona, rather than respected mentorship.

I came across a hentai comic that may be parallel to what might come in the future: https://e-hentai.org/g/1460954/184ac0e125/

Hero: Jack
Heroine: Fiona
Monster: Arthur

But in all, she is not being aware of the dangers, as she feels just as safe with Arthur as she is with Jack. The question remains is, who does she trust more?

5UP3RN0V4

To be fair, Fiona now wants Jack to join her pack, if I read this chapter correctly.

Correction on my part:
Fiona: Yes
Jack: No
Arthur: Never

Before I put it as:
Fiona: Yes
Arthur: No
Jack: Never

TheDragonBoy

Posted by TheDragonBoy 2 years ago Report

I meant I wasn’t sure what question you were answering with those yes/no’s

Shadow0000

Posted by Shadow0000 2 years ago Report

What I mean is:

Fiona: Yes. She wants Jack to join the pack. She does this with the goal of making Jack feel safer, and to teach her pack that Jack is a friend, not food. Her trust in the pack is naive, because of her mother's strong respect and self control, including her sister Sissy, and her grandmother, she thinks that this respect applies to all predators and other wolf packs. This is her idea of bringing her two circles of friends together, and to make it up for her absence last week. (She still happy with Jack, and she feels lonely without him, but stills doesn't understand Jack's anger or pain. This is why she thinks it's an golden opportunity to fix everything.)

Jack: No. Fiona's pack is the reason why he lost his group from the previous chapter, with Arthur being the leading cause of Jack's distain and fear. He's only going along with Fiona's invitation is because she was genuinely sorry, and is trying to reach out for him. Against his better judgment, he wants to heal his fractured relationship with Fiona, even mean facing Arthur and his pack, in his den. (Jack really got balls of steel to save his relationship with Fiona, and Fiona herself, against a pack of predators that will eat him without care.)

Arthur: Never. Arthur sees Fiona as his hunting partner, and invited her to join the pack. He sees Jack as nothing but prey, and something that is blocking him from having full control over Fiona. (I see him as a jerk version of Sarabeth. At least she just wanted to be with Fiona again, she learned to show some level of respect for Jack, even if she is using him to deal with Arthur for her.) He sees this party as a "Meet my family. Family, meet my girlfriend", and have her be his. Though he respects Fiona for keeping Jack, as her marked prey, for so long, he thinks that it is time to tear the two apart. He accepting Fiona's request because he sees this as an opportunity to dominate Fiona for good. (Werewolves receiving marked prey as a sign of courtship to their desired partner. And putting Fiona on the spot will break her on that point.) If not, he could be condescending to provoke Jack to make him explode, then send him down Pyre's gut to eliminate Jack. In any case, he planned to do something to Fiona, and this time, he's going to use Jack to end this unofficial love triangle. (I would not be surprised if he asked Pyre to keep the armor in his gut, and only to spit it out in front of Jack when he's intimidating him.)

TheDragonBoy

NOW I see. You are right on the money with just about all of the broad strokes, if not the exact details. There is one particularly specific detail that you are very close on, which I find really funny. (You’ll see when the next one goes up.)

5UP3RN0V4

Posted by 5UP3RN0V4 2 years ago Report

I KNEW IT!!! Their friendship IS coming to an end, no thanks to Arthur, who has been playing his card right from the very start.
At least that is an assumption.

Shadow0000

Posted by Shadow0000 2 years ago Report

That will solely be on Fiona, unfortunately.
She's going to choose between her friendship, self-respect and loyalty, or power and prestigious status.

5UP3RN0V4

Posted by 5UP3RN0V4 2 years ago Report

Trust me. Fiona WILL know she blew her friendship with Jack, the moment he mentions Ruby, his GIRLFREIND, to her, since she was the one who ate her at Survivors Anonymous.

MasterGryph

Posted by MasterGryph 2 years ago Report

I think it might take a few lines of exposition before it really hits Fiona. Depending on exactly how it comes up.

5UP3RN0V4

Posted by 5UP3RN0V4 2 years ago Report

Also, Arthur inviting Jack to the get together…
The way he was smiling at his friends showed that they get the chance of eating Jack, since he was the only who made it out of Survivors Anonymous alive that night.
Unfinished business, so to speak.

2Ron2R

Posted by 2Ron2R 2 years ago Report

The armor? Just my guess about what those last sentences refer to.

Shadow0000

Posted by Shadow0000 2 years ago Report

Pyre at someone who was wearing armor last chapter. He described how digesting armor is a slow process in comparison to digesting his prey. You can check the last chapter about it.

2Ron2R

Posted by 2Ron2R 2 years ago Report

Yes I know that. I was guessing which thing you were "...very close on...".

2Ron2R

Posted by 2Ron2R 2 years ago Report

It's not her being blinded by her infatuation for Arthur (an old saying 'love is sacrifice', we'll see how long things last between her and Arthur when she has to sacrifice for him) that caused me to say that but her blindness to herself. She seems to expect 'friends' (not necessarily Arthur) to not do to her what she *has* done to her friend. Nor is it reasonable for her to expect to be able to defend Jack against two much less four advanced preds (still not counting Arthur). She is so broadly and deeply blinded that just calling it blinded doesn't cut it.

lypo

Looks like Fiona is getting off Scott free without ever considering Jack's feelings. Or that maybe she was in the wrong. I hope not. I'm liking her less and less as the story goes on. Hopefully she wakes up soon. Probably after she has to fish Jack out of one of her so called pack friends.

x9comega

Yes because that’s what teenagers are known for, verbally communicating their emotions concisely and effortlessly ^^;

carrierheart

Posted by carrierheart 2 years ago Report

This is now at the point of him ignoring those raging emotions for practically no reason. A teenager not in control of their emotions would be throwing a fit or locking the one who hurt them away. Or trying to hurt them back.

TheDragonBoy

Posted by TheDragonBoy 2 years ago Report

And he has just slightly more control than that- because he's forced himself to. Every time he's let those feelings out it's just gotten worse so far. This is where he's at for the moment.

Shadow0000

Posted by Shadow0000 2 years ago Report

I can relate to that reason of self control.

5UP3RN0V4

5UP3RN0V4

In a disaster, no doubt about that.
Trust me. After what Jack went through, he’s definitely gonna let it out in the next chapter, especially in front of Fiona.

MasterGryph

CakePisces

I agree, I reread the last few paragraphs and it seems like Jack has some kind of plan. Maybe a suicidal test for fiona's reconvictions, realization, or idk, but he's up to something. This can either turn badly or good, but I'm here for the ride XD

TheDragonBoy

MasterGryph

Ah, I should have guessed.

I'm going to refrain from checking back every five minutes this time, though.

Mechdragon1k

Posted by Mechdragon1k 2 years ago Report

Part of me is wondering if he lost all hope and it about to try suicide by pred, only for his pred friends to freak out.

5UP3RN0V4

Posted by 5UP3RN0V4 2 years ago Report

Fiona would be the one freaking out.
Why? Because if Jack was to commit suicide by feeding himself to one of the preds, she would know directly that something's wrong with Jack.

Mechdragon1k

Posted by Mechdragon1k 2 years ago Report

I would not also be surprised if Sarabeth the vampire freaks out, she seems to like Jack. Would be fun drama, as they figure out how to keep a suicidal prey safe.

TheDragonBoy

Posted by TheDragonBoy 2 years ago Report

Honestly, as a completely different story in this universe, I could see a morbid comedy where a small group constantly has to try and keep this one friend of theirs from offing himself by offering himself up to preds.

5UP3RN0V4

Posted by 5UP3RN0V4 2 years ago Report

I should have been more precise.
I meant that Jack might commit suicide by offering himself as lunch to one of the preds at that get together in the next chapter.

TheDragonBoy

Posted by TheDragonBoy 2 years ago Report

Exactly! And then afterwards:
*sigh* “That pred would have gurgled me really quick too. Oh well, pizza’s not bad I guess.”

x9comega

Posted by x9comega 2 years ago Report

Damnit this is really good XD

5UP3RN0V4

Posted by 5UP3RN0V4 2 years ago Report

Maybe Jack will spend the next few chapter feeling that way, wanting nothing more than to reunited with Ruby in the afterlife as soon as he can, thus probably going as far as surrendering to Sissy's belly when the Lupellas, minus Bea, are not watching.

magicboy13

Posted by magicboy13 2 years ago Report

What if that pred was depressed about being a pred? XD

That would be funny I guess.

Perodian

Posted by Perodian 2 years ago Report

Jack's not as sad as I thought he would be, I thought he'd be in more despair and not want to see Fiona again. I guess it's understandable for him to hope that he can keep at least ONE friend. I know Ozzy still exists, but it's hard for him to bank on his survival now that Zach's gone

Also I really want to see Arthur get punched or something.

TheDragonBoy

Posted by TheDragonBoy 2 years ago Report

Also- and don't interpret this the wrong way- he really did care about Zach and Ruby, but he's known Fiona his whole life, while he met both others a week ago. That doesn't make what Fiona did okay, and that doesn't devalue the relationships he had with them, but his relationship with Fiona is- or at the very least was- on somewhat of a different level.

Wolfsage

Posted by Wolfsage 2 years ago Report

I totally agree on that, but I hope Jack will at least tell Fiona about Ruby and they will patch things up.

5UP3RN0V4

Posted by 5UP3RN0V4 2 years ago Report

Let's hope they do.

Samhain31

Posted by Samhain31 2 years ago Report

I really liked Jack and Fiona when this story started, but I'm really starting to dislike them. Fiona more than Jack, but him too. Fiona is too naive to see how her other friends see Jack, she still has some hope that they'll befriend him too. That's almost certainly not going to happen, especially after the last chapter. Plus, it sounds like she thinks he's in the wrong against Pyre, when she, Pyre, and the others burst into the meeting. Jack does not owe anyone an apology.

On the subject of Jack, he needs to tell Fiona how her behavior is hurting him and their friendship. It might not be realistic, but he's holding out for her to realize it on her own like she's holding out for her friends to accept Jack. I really hope. Jack has some plan because after what happened at the SA meeting, revenge would be more than justified, whether or not it proves a point to Fiona.

TheDragonBoy

Posted by TheDragonBoy 2 years ago Report

I'd be much more inclined to say Fiona is blinded than naïve.

5UP3RN0V4

Posted by 5UP3RN0V4 2 years ago Report

I'm on your side, big guy.
Fiona IS blinded.
Here's to hope she realizes it before she goes making a mistake she'll end up regretting for the rest of her life.

5UP3RN0V4

Posted by 5UP3RN0V4 2 years ago Report

That… and that next chapter possibly seals the end of Jack and Fiona’s friendship. No doubt about it. After all, Jack had put up with Fiona eating one human after another ever since Arthur came along, but by eating Ruby, she has officially crossed the line in his eyes.

Looking forward to seeing how much jack gets kicked while hes down before they let him back up, this series is really good, and despite having some things that aren't my cup of tea i couldn't stop reading if i wanted too the writing is too good!

TheDragonBoy

Posted by TheDragonBoy 2 years ago Report

That would have been a nice touch, though I don't know if Jack needs even MORE factors pushing him over the edge at this point (ironic, I know, coming from the guy who wrote everything thus far). Really, leaving that out was just a force of habit, I hardly mention any colors unless they're plot-relevant (don't think Fiona even has an officially stated fur color XD).

Daduke

A marked human surrounded by the top preds in all the school at a party. Now that doesn't sound like how *not* to become lunch. They're probably going to be reminiscing about the tragic and terrifying things Jack has experienced too poor boy. On Fiona I dont think she's even given Jack a "sorry" and thats HNTBAF (How Not To Be A Friend).

Shadow0000

Posted by Shadow0000 2 years ago Report

Jack is crying in rage from lost, to the point he couldn't leave his room. Fiona feels lonely when Jack was missing, and tries to make it up to him.

The problem: Fiona is too naive, thinking that her pack would respect her friends and help her with Jack, and Jack is going against common sense in order to heal their damaged relationship, due to what's left of his faith with Fiona.

They both want to be together again, but they still don't understand the difference between friendship, and being in a pack.

If we are going to the packs behavior, I foresee it like so:

- Arthur: he is the host, as leader, would say that it was the best catch yet, flaunt it in Jack's face, then do some werewolf behavior to Fiona that is on par with cucking/NTR to demonstrate that he's the one who claims Fiona, and that Jack officially lost her.

- Chelsea: she is going to be indifferent, but curious about the release between Jack and Fiona, and probably be expressionless about it.

- Udon: Of all of Fiona's Pack, she would be probably the only one who would empathize Fiona and Jack in the party, yet she would play as a "holding someone back" in what we all predict would come. She probably has Fiona's back the most.

-Mort: Confused, and probably going to be the most curious one in the group, yet would not hold back a few insults towards Pyre like, "Here is the best chance at revenge, to bad that you can't eat him without Fiona getting furious about it." Or even, "You tried to eat him here, and STILL FAILED? He's practically came to you on a silver platter, willingly, and he still got away." Or even, "Wow, Jack is hear to apologize to you? Never thought I see food apologizing before."

- Pyre: He would be livid. His ego would not allow Jack get away again. He would involve his pack to prevent Fiona from saving Jack. He would not accept any apology, other than eating Jack. He's going to be the 2nd biggest danger, second only to Arthur.

All that is left is Arthur's family: how would Fiona protect Jack like she did with her sister Sissy and her grandmother? Will she rescue Jack just like before? Or would she snap?

I would not be surprised if somewhere in the family, they're connected to Jack's dad in some way. (Friend or Pred)

Wolfsage

Imagine if it turns out Arthur has a younger sister too and we end up with a Sissy 2.0 situation :D

TheDragonBoy

Oh man, that's kinda funny, but I don't think an Arthur-style Sissy counterpart would be as endearing. Not with Arthur as a role model.

5UP3RN0V4

If Arthur DID have a younger sister... I'm sure Sissy would have competition over her first human.

TheDragonBoy

Posted by TheDragonBoy 2 years ago Report

You are right about a few things, and pretty close on a few others. Of course, you'll have to wait until the releases to find out which points I'm talking about ;)

Rimedane

Posted by Rimedane 2 years ago Report

Honestly at this point I kind of want to see Jack learn the spells to become a Predator himself, using his scent to lure in other predators and devour them. After all, his marked scent only gets stronger over time as previously stated, and it'll mean he can defend those who can't defend themselves from other predators. Not to mention that a diet of preds would keep him sated enough he'd never have to eat anyone that's not a predator themselves.

Shadow0000

Posted by Shadow0000 2 years ago Report

I believed that in ch. 42, Tread lighty, that it was explained that the scent of a marked doesn't get stronger. And in ch. 50 q&a, it is only triggered by puberty. So that's off the table.

TheDragonBoy

Posted by TheDragonBoy 2 years ago Report

You are correct in recalling that it does NOT grow continuously stronger over time. It is weaker in prepubescence, so it does grow stronger once, when the human comes of age, but afterwards it stays consistent.

To be fair, some movies I know, take "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" for example, feature parts in the plot where best friends end their friendship, only to come back together by the end of those movies. Basically, IF Jack ends his friendship with Fiona in Chapter 57, it will obviously happen that, by some miracle, they'll make up and become friends again.

5UP3RN0V4

Posted by 5UP3RN0V4 2 years ago Report

You guys, I think I figured out why Jack didn't blow up in Fiona's face while she was at his home. He is obviously waiting to be someplace where his mom is not present, seeing as the last thing he wants is to make her an emotional wreck, when he finally lets out what Fiona has put him through those last few weeks.
