In a less dark version of his story, one in which Rocket and Lylla both made it out of the lab, there's no way Rocket would leave her with crummy stick arms. He'd tinker with them endlessly until they were perfect.

I'm not really happy with this and I'll probably try again while I'm at the family get together I'm going to. Lylla I can draw without them recoiling in horror, unlike most of the stuff I draw (which they don't know about and won't).

I recently discovered the original version of Rocket and Lylla, who were both residents of Half-world. In this world-sized insane asylum, robots had created them and all the other furries to entertain and act as therapy animals for the inmates.

They developed their own civilization and economy around producing toys and other distractions for the inmates. Not nearly as dark, and Lylla had biological arms.

The reappearance of Rocket as a grizzled veteran of the galactic wars in the 2000s was pretty jarring, and him showing up as a tortured lab experiment in the first movie just as much so.

So the movue industry really went with:
"Why does he leave or not have a home and is locked in a prison?"
"Well originally he's a therapy animal."
"No no no. Get rid of that. What about this? He gots guns and stuff."
"He's a war veteran."
"Let's go with that one. Just make it sadder."
"Sadder sir?"
"Yeah, he's a war vet right? And in prison. So have him commit a heinous crime or something that makes him dangerous."
Some time latter
"So the raccoon is going to be a psychopath made originally as an experiment that toyed with him and several others to prove a point."
"So why he's in prison?"
"He comitted a mass murder involving his creators."
"Soubds good. Make sure you milk it with the others. Have him kill them too or something."
"Got it boss."

I did a fanfic where Rocket murders his way out of the lab. Unpleasant as his origin is in the MCU, at least that didn't happen. He does kill a couple of people, but it was worse in my fanfic.

Honestly... LLyla didn't deserve to die.
Good thing the High Evolutionary got what he deserved in the end.

Lylla has sadly become the new Uncle Ben, dying in Rocket's past to motivate him. It's happened in two games and a movie. Comic Lylla is still alive,at least.

There's plenty of things we won't write/draw around family that might not understand what we are into.

Writing I can do, they have no idea what is on my writing phone. Drawing is harder to keep covert.

Well, my family at least knows that I write crazy stuff, at any rate.

Honestly, them killing Lylla off when I was actually excited to see her in the third movie was the final nail in the coffin for me to never watch Marvel again. Shock and Awe over Quality and Substance has sadly become a norm recently, and I'm quite sick of it.

Lylla has had a hard time of it historically. Comic writers don't know what to do with her so she's kept off screen. Two games in a row and now a movie see her killed for the same reason. I had hoped for a "What if Batch 89 escaped" What If but we didn't get one. All we got was a two second look at a heavily cyberneticized Rocket variant.
