the course of a week Kathy saw the dark-haired girl three times, each
time as the girl lingered for an hour or more at the railed overlook
of Norbert's pen. The big sea lion was not an entrancing sight on
dry land, just a long streamlined torpedo of blubber. It was not like
seeing him through the floor to ceiling armored glass a floor down,
which looked into the big aquarium itself. In the water he was
nimble and swift and you realized how much muscle there was under

Dave was not a
happy man by the time Kathy found him that morning. Sneaking in to
swim with the sea life had seemed the greatest idea in the world,
until he decided to start with the big sea lion in the aquarium
closest to the street. The blubbery torpedo that was Norbert had
ignored him as he explored the pen, and even when he slid into the
water, but had finally roused when he decided, short-sightedly it
turned out, to prod the sea lion into activity.
