I'm not a Fan of all this Patreon as well... But I think it just starts, more and more go into it...
I personally Donate (non-patreeon only) if I like an Artist.
I think the days where more of the Artists did it as hobby are over, now it's their job. Which is okay, but I usually unwatch Artists, which only post Patreon-Ads
The Problem is the whole Internet changed over the years, back then it was an area where you could "escape" real-life and have fun and find persons with similar interests. Today it's more about money everywhere... Today if you want "escape" real-life you go offline ironically
I like the idea when Artists can get some cool as rewards for their work, I did some "simple" images and realized how much work it is, so if I had the money I would throw it to them, because its super much work!
But this Patreon-Model is just wrong in multiple levels
1. Ads everywhere, I get tired of it
2. Locking out poor people
3. Almost every artist starts it today, which means even, good earning people could not support every artists, which leads to some artists are still underpaid but still need to create patreon content for their 1 - 10 users (self-enslavery for 50 bucks, which is worse than some commissions)
Bottom line, usually just some really less Artists get a benifit from it, but more artists and the community are the losers of this system, did I mention real life tries to meet the internet?
But its not only the fault of Patreon, Patreon is supposed to be a crowd founding Platform, where you can DONATE and see some Preview (for a Game which is in Progress for example) as thanks, but the idea is to have it as Donation-Platform not as Paywall
