When we last left them, Alex was in the process of being hit by a car, and Damian in the process of discovering what it feels like to be on the other end of true horror for the first time in eight centuries.
A while has passed. Shall we return to Actura, and to those soft, deathly feathers?
Yes, Part I, I'm afraid. At the current of my writing - ie, inversely proportional to the amount of stuff going on, which is about to jump as high as a gryphon's cruel eye - the whole thing may not be finished for a while, so you can have the first part, which mostly just means questions. Have fun!

This...divides me. On the one hand, making me read the gryphon's dialogue draws a pit in my stomach and makes me cringe. And Alex...he seems almost TOO submissive. It makes me wonder, if he's endured this so much, why he doesn't SNAP for once, and actually strike back, even if it would be useless....
But...then we get to Damien actually showing something I did not think was possible. True concern. For ALEX. And by LORD, the level of detail in this! Every sentence, every paragraph seems lovingly passionate and detailed!
I'm so torn about this. I just don't know what to feel.

Well... honestly, that's somewhat what I wanted. I knew this installment would depart quite severely from the usual pattern Damian and Alex followed, so I decided to embrace that change and see how it changes them. I will be interested to see what Part II does as welll...
As for Alex, yes, I can understand this. But he's been in a catatonic state for a month, has woken up to his worst nightmare, discovered he's also in the home of said nightmare and then had Damian suddenly come across sincerely - which was an even greater shock for him than for us. Alex is mentally exhausted, and he's a naturally gentle person... it takes a while for his emotion to build up to the level where he begins to snap. Hence his attack in Chapter 5, which came after a lot of taunting from Damian... but this time, he's confused by the gryphon's suddenly more human attitude, and also suddenly aware of another threat - the mysterious assassin. Alex will snap, oh yes. But it takes him a while to build up the courage. He's not naturally brave, he has to struggle for it.
But confused feelings are what I want. Damian is more than a sadistic monster, and Alex is more than a victim. They have layers, and although the gryphon keeps his as perfectly preened as he can, he might have cracked it a bit this time. Thank you. :3

Well, this was certainly an interesting one. Damian apologizing? SINCERELY? Wow. Also, love the descriptions of all of the separate rooms in Damian's... Suite? I eagerly await the next part.

Hee. Thank you. Damian's had quite a nasty shock, so he may not be quite the flawless murderer he's forged himself into. I did really rather enjoy making him insecure for the first time... and Part II will certainly have more of it.
Yes. The rooms were quite tricky to imagine, but also very enjoyable. What would a mythical creature who can do just about anything fill his rooms with? Damian's decided to pretty much indulge his every whim to the degree he does everything.

For some reason, I've had the room filled with threads stuck in my head since I first read this. I bet that would look cool! :P

Heee. It was originally intended for Damian to practice his dexterity but over time, he's come to use it as something of a Newton's-cradle-esque device. Sprint through and watch the threads dance, cause and effect clashing. It generally takes upwards of two hours for them to completely stop.

Oh look, I got an explanation... Look at you with your fancy details!

I live for the fancy details. I lie awake at night, in the hot coiled fleshy furnace where Goldeneye puts his puppets when they're not being used, and dream of the fancy details. Moar of them shall coooooome.

(I'm not going to talk about your writing because... c'mon... you're a master. Let's get to the emotion of the tale, instead)
I... I seriously don't know what to say. I'm in the same camp as newenglandee.
Somehow, you managed to make SO MUCH of "nothing" happen in such a long, elaborate expository piece -- and I don't mean this negatively; I LOVE a good introspective piece, and this was introspective with only dots of activity and exploration. Very well done.
And somehow your most disturbing piece to date simply BECAUSE of the sudden thrust of realism with surgical tools and operating tables
I still find Alex to be an ellipsis on two feet, but this time he evinced more emotion, and I found myself believing that he was "more real."
Damian, as always, never ceases to amuse or delight. And this new facet of his personality is very, very intriguing indeed.
The horror was so subtle and understated in this piece, and that's what made it so frightening.

(This brackets thing is fun... but stoppit, stop throwing it away like that. Thank you for such a ridiculously casual and kind comment.)
And the rest of said comment is... well, what can I say. Other than, "...really? Did I?" It's a curious delight to discover this had such an effect. I just wrote what came into it... but I suppose if that's what I conveyed to you, then good. I wanted to bring the fantasy a bit closer to reality - both its mains have suffered their own reality shocks, after all. And yes, Damian may have knife-sharp talons, but he still finds tools easier for most surgical tasks. I suppose what I was trying to illustrate was the deconstruction of him as a perfect, infallible beast of
And I think he's not the only one who's changed. Alex has somehow been altered, and I'm honestly not completely sure how. It'll be fun to continue with him...
But of course, "where the heart is" refers more to Damian. I'm glad you like his sudden change... he's certainly changing. Eight hundred years of tormenting and he's suddenly confronted with an unknown element. He's finding adaptation difficult.
But overall... thank you. I don't know how I do all this, but if you think I am, I will certainly believe you. Glad you enjoyed it in whatever fashion. :3

Yes. I sense that Alex has changed somehow. It's subtle, it's haunting, and it's there.

A chapter large enough for two, surely you treat us well. Very interesting to see Damian' and Alex's relationship develop. I have to wonder what well happen next. Damian had exactly what he wanted, so now that events outside his control are intruding, will Alex still be perfect, or will this new trauma change something inside him. What if Damian decides he isn't so perfect anymore? I suppose my question is, can things change between these two without Damian murdering Alex for good? I think we are seeing hints here that the answer will be yes.

Treat you well? You may not say that when the next part takes months. I hate my education right now with roughly the same passion Damian reserves for our mystery assassin... and it is, after all, attempting to take away my writing, which is very precious to me - just like Alex is to his feathery friend.
But anyhow, I'm glad you enjoyed. These changes were so satisfying to write. Feel free to conspiratorilise about what will happen between them. As you've noticed, Damian has been a little... destabilised. But he still believes in Alex's perfection... and he is still a genius with colossal willpower, so he can adapt. So I think I'm not spoiling anything if I say that Damian does not intend to murder his little one out of anything except the highest pleasure.
As much as he might want to in Part II. *cackles...*
