well, it's a little more complicated than that. though I don't know the exact specifics (Due to not reading the comics involving her) i've deduced her body is "real" but comprised of digital code similar to a digimon.

Her body is comprised of Nanobots left behind by an ancient and highly advanced alien race, this actually being the birds, they crash landed and thir origins became legend among their culture. Anywho, when the nanobots were found, Nicole was able to upload herself to them and control them to create a whole city, as well as a body for herself.
