I have been wanting to update Juniper's design for a while now, she just didn't look and feel enough like myself to be satisfactory as an avatar. I tweaked her design a bit to better reflect how I actually look.

So, how do I look? Good enough to eat? lol

Just like the first drawing of her, this is simply what I'm wearing today. Yes, a medium purple stocking and a small pink one, both with holes; they wear out quick. Same goes for gloves, so I bought up a few dozen, and change them every week or less. And that's a black beanie over a red, brimmed cap.

But I wanted her wearing eyeshadow since I am every day now. My eyelids don't keep light out, so now I'm just covering my eyesockets with liner pencil, with a little cat's eye thing to draw light away. That brings me to why she has different sized eyes. Juniper's left eye is sunken in, because my right eye is (she's my reflection). It is noticeable if you get close, kinda looks like one eye is smaller, but the eye itself and socket around it are the same, so the liner ends up being slightly thicker around that eye to make it look the same size. And now you know.

Darker hair, since mine is blue-black, and as for bat form, it doesn't change much. Better head and ears, the eyeliner, and now wings aren't actually connected anatomically, they just kind of flow off my hands, like some intangible force field with holes moving all around it. It'll be easier for poses and junk.

This is more like a high detail version, I'll simplify her a little bit for comics and such.

She's looking cute for sure, certainly like her design and outfit^^ pretty big fan of the eyes specifically, idk why but I just have a huge thing for black marking around the eyes ~good example would be celebi for comparison~ so yeah, certainly looking good enough to eat xd^^ <3

Thank you! I did always love dark eyeliner, though it was kinda frounded upon when I was young, it's understood why I have to do it now. Always thought Celebi was cute too

neat, never really had much culture/generally to do with eyeline as a whole so cant really say much on that. but i think it definetly looks great.

also ye, celebi is adorable uwu my favorite mythical of all time and a mon id wish would get some more love and spotlight in the community. i have the feeling most if not all of the mythicals are just kinda overshadowed and forgotten in the favor of mew, and "nope" who draws a lot of meloetta.

Ah - combined with the black clothes, my parents and their church were all freaked out I was going Goth (this was before we knew a disease kinda demanded dark clothes). Ironically I'm not into the typical gothic stuff, I just figured out wearing black and eyeliner made me feel better!

I actually don't know the mythicals all that well, I haven't played enough and rarely make it far. Always liked a lot of the original 150, and in most plays I'm drawn to ghost and electric types, I like the robot-looking Pokemon that are somehow still living things.

Ah fair. I'm certainly a very big fan of black and white clothing myself, one reason why the gothitelle line is one of my absolute favorite. Also really like some lovely pastel pink stuff tho uwu my family not being religious at all prolly is the reason why I never heard any of that before. I hope your able to wear whatever you like now without having to worry about things like that tho<3

Ah fair. I personally have to say that the first gen is my least favorite out of all with very very few mons I genuinely like and a lot that i really hate. My favorite generation being 4 and 5 the ones I've started with and that have most of my top favorite pkmn. And meaty ghost is my favorite typing so I'm drawn to a lot of ghosts too, all with the exception of the gengar, dragapult and aegislash line, ~alltough freely is cute uwu~ less drawn to electric tho. More a fairy/bug person in regards to pkmn at least. Always been a fan of the more obscure mons with unique anatomy's and bodies and can actually work for vore concepts/be given reason and explanation as for why they are the way they are and such.

Oh ye, only one I can really think of rn would be magearna who I love to pieces and wish would get some more love ~and vore uwu~ definitely also one of my favorite mythicals for sure.

I do love the aesthetic, even if the usual movies, music, etc doesn't appeal. Some of my outfits have a bit of a goth lolita look; I like clothes accented with lace, sometimes neon colours here and there. The family's still religious, but I'm in my 30s, live far from them, and basically do whatever the hell I want these days.

So of course, I actually started with Pokémon when gen 1 was all we had. I don't like a lot of the first 150 but Magnemite, Gyarados, Kangaskhan, and Haunter usually headed my team. I never had a Gengar cause I never met anyone with the game and connector cable! But I love a lot of the ghosts and unique bodied mons from later gens.

Oh, Magearna is a pretty one! I just love that style. One of my current non-vore projects is designing monsters for a game, a few are clockwork style like that. It's true you don't see much vore with that style.

yeah, idk much about it tbh other then the aesthetic which is the main thing i like about it. just really a lover of black/white styles. and thats good to know ig, ill be turning 20 tomorrow uwu. not sure what lace is exactly tbh.

fair, i havent played any gens before 4 for a long time and only played those for the first time fairly recently so i have little attachement to them. magnemite is dope, gyarados is ok ig, kanghaskan i never had much opinion about and the haunter line i already said my thing, as for my favorite gen 1 mons itd prolly be mons like ditto, eevee, dragonair, moltres and vulpix. and same for the last part

ye, have grown to love her dearly ever since watching its movie. such a cutie <3 and sounds neat, hope its going well^^

Cool - I really like a plain black and white, and good use of stripes. Oh, well happy birthday! I'm a bit more than a decade older - might be why I know a lot of that typical goth stuff, it had a big revival in the 90s.

Lace is when you have these sort of patterns in clothes: https://www.fabricdirect.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/CHANTILLY-LACE-STYLE-BLACK-SILVER-A.jpg
I have some skirts that end like that, for instance.

Here's a funny one - back when I first started playing Pokemon, Eevee only had three evolutions! Which at the time was unique for the game and pretty cool, glad they expanded on it so much.

Pkmnguy6262

Posted by Pkmnguy6262 4 years ago Report

Ye I love a lot as well^^ ~and skirts are one of my favorite too uwu~ heh yeah that prolly is why xd and also thank you!<3^^
Certainly wish to expand my wardrobe with a bit more black gothic stuff.^^

Ah neat^^

Hah yeah, i got into mons when eevee had 7 evolutions already xd ~my favorite being espeon uwu~ I always really liked it. Plus, it's my gfs favorite pkmn, so of course I have to like it xd

Btw, do you have a discord? If so would prolly be a better place to chat then in the comments here xd if you want to of course.

JuniperBerry

Posted by JuniperBerry 4 years ago Report

You've probably heard it before, but thrift stores are a great place to go for black clothes, and often you'll find unique and downright gothic stuff without paying the typical prices.

I think I had Jolteon most times, really not sure what I'd pick today honestly.

No, actually I've been avoiding live chat apps for a while now, they're difficult for a variety of reasons. I like chatting through PMs, could explain a bit more why if you want to chat that way.

Pkmnguy6262

Posted by Pkmnguy6262 4 years ago Report

Huh no I haven't actually, I'm very bad at like names, brands and stuff and get lost easily with all of it, plus me being a super shy and introverted bean makes going out to shop quiet difficult, which is why I have my mother usually order the stuff online...because she manages all of my families bank account pretty much. Will definitely stay on the lookout tho for some uwu

Hm fair. Jolteon and flareon are prolly my two least faves of all of them. But still like them both.

Huh, fair enough then, certainly respect that. And sure ig, i typically don't like pms because they feel slow and unreliable to me most of the times and it never feels like a true conversation to me..and fearing that i miss it/don't get a notification makes me anxious at times..but I'd love to stay in contact and chat with ya occasionally as your a nice person to talk to^^

JuniperBerry

Posted by JuniperBerry 4 years ago Report

Online can be just as good - I get a lot of things that way too, but the wait is terrible sometimes. Again though, I'm in a big city, the shopping options are endless, and there are good times to go when it's not so crazy.

I could do some PMing tonight, maybe if you want to start one off, or I will if I get around to it first.

Pkmnguy6262

Posted by Pkmnguy6262 4 years ago Report

Yeah. Most of the time it takes around 1-2 months for online stuff to get shipped and arrive here. So it definitely is a wait for sure

Sure, I'll send you a pM then so you can respond to it when your back.

Spider8Fiend

Posted by Spider8Fiend 4 years ago Report

Oh, Juniper is based on you? I wouldn't have guessed, but I will say her design is improved with this outfit. It feels like she's someone who takes time to improve her self-image, who takes careful consideration in her appearance and follows what aesthetic feels genuine to her. As such, Juniper feels like a character who really lives-and-breathes in the moment, which may be why she draws people in?

JuniperBerry

Posted by JuniperBerry 4 years ago Report

Yup, Juniper is sort of a caricature of my appearance and life (with "vampire's disease" and all). I do pour a lot of effort into aesthetics, without really thinking about it much, I just like everything to match up. Like maybe a theme colour for clothes and jewelry that day or something. It does seem to draw people to me, to some extent, which isn't my intention but whatever. Funny, a vampire in hiding would probably be doing the same! Lol

Spider8Fiend

Posted by Spider8Fiend 4 years ago Report

Ahaha, you're not wrong. Like a vampire would stand to benefit by drawing folks in, only to have a little blood snack. But how can we know that you're not also a vampire? ;) The truth can be stranger than fiction, after all~

JuniperBerry

Posted by JuniperBerry 4 years ago Report

Hehe, it is an advantage to be "charming" - I suppose you'll never truly know it if I were a real vampire. Unless I showed up to bite your neck some night, then you'd know it! Lol

Spider8Fiend

Posted by Spider8Fiend 4 years ago Report

I’ll have to remember to stock up on garlic then! Why? Uh, for my pasta dishes? My family is Italian, we eat a lot of spaghetti!

... and if there happens to a window invitingly opened for a bat to fly through, I’m sure that would be a total accident.

JuniperBerry

Posted by JuniperBerry 4 years ago Report

Oh dear... Ironically garlic and tomatoes are two of my food triggers now, I can't have them anymore! So perhaps your blood WOULD be a bad idea!

Spider8Fiend

Posted by Spider8Fiend 4 years ago Report

Perhaps, but if nothing else I could be a hospitable host. Rooms could be outfitted to block out the sun, and a few guests can be invited for dinner. I’d make sure they’re well looked after, fattened up, and sluggish for... whatever may come next~

(RT, if you’re really allergic to garlic and tomatoes, or if they do trigger you, I apologize for my joke. I certainly didn’t mean to dig into a sensitive subject, even if it’s in friendly banter like this)

JuniperBerry

Posted by JuniperBerry 4 years ago Report

Oh, that would be quite accommodating! Anywhere I go has to be pretty dim.

Don't worry, I'll joke around about anything. But yeah, garlic, tomatoes, grapes, olives, and a bunch of others give me "attacks" just like light does. Even foods that benefit blood are too much for mine to handle, especially acidic stuff, but tje food triggers just started last summer. Kinda disappointing,I liked making pasta, and getting pizza!

Spider8Fiend

Posted by Spider8Fiend 4 years ago Report

What have you done to deal with this change?

JuniperBerry

Posted by JuniperBerry 4 years ago Report

So far I'm trying to add more things to my snack food and cooking that are safe foods, or outright helpful for my symptoms. Glucose is a big one, so I'm adding it here and there, and finding out which spices I can tolerate for stir fries, or pastas without tomato or dairy.

Spider8Fiend

Posted by Spider8Fiend 4 years ago Report

Hm, my older sister knows a variety of unique recipes, since she’s got her own food allergies. Perhaps I can ask her for suggestion? Additionally, would you prefer to move this over to a PM, since we’re not exactly talking about your drawing anymore?

JuniperBerry

Posted by JuniperBerry 4 years ago Report

Well, I already have a list of what to have, what to avoid, essentially - or at least potentials. Sure, you can send one along, I'll try to get to it today

Overall a pretty nice re-design, though I do have a couple nitpicks;

-The dress and stockings kinda blend into one another, since they're so close to the outside color. Maybe lighten the stockings to a more dark grey, similar to the hat/overcoat?

-And on the overcoat, I'm not sure it's needed, at least for the day-to-day design. The current two lairs of undershirt-dress looks good already, and having a third lair with a color that close to the second may make simplification harder then it needs to be.

-And this last one is more personal preference, but I think she looks better with straight hair over curly like it is now. Like, straight and a little spikey both works well for conveying "Vampire" visually in more subtle way, as well as thematically complementing the Bat-half better. (Mainly the wings)
This one is ultimately more my opinion over actual design advice, though, so take it with a grain of salt.

Otherwise, though, I think it looks really nice. The new clothes colors compliment her skin/hair's well, the new bat-form is just a straight upgrade visually.
Hat and new Dress are also super cute~
Even with the nitpicks this is still a great re-design.

Thank you - I appreciate a detailed critique like this!

-So, the colours of the stockings, and so much use of black was frustrating. But, of course, this outfit is precisely what I was wearing that day (the overcoat for an outing). Essentially I drew my clothes too accurately and it didn't translate as well in this style - so it'll be more like Juniper's future appearance will be based on this, but simplified and refined a little more. She'll probably only have the coat in outside scenes, much like myself!

-I noticed it too, her hair not being so straight almost alters the perceived personality a little. See, I haven't cut my hair since I started this account, and now it's started to get all wavy when I have this... "Juniper style". Her older look matched the bat wings better, but here there's kind of a contrast since her wings look even more chaotic, and hair less. Probably going to balance them out a bit.

Thanks, glad you like the outfit - they're two of my favourite dresses, but both are thin (and I need all my skin covered anyway) so I layer them. And the hat is a beanie over a cap - my winter hat. Figured it'd be a good look for Juni.

I really like this design, the matching eyerings on both the human and batform are great. I love that hat and jacket as well as the hairstyle.

Thank you! I just like where this design is going, it makes Juniper a lot more relatable since I'm wearing that dark eyeliner every day now. Actually I'm dying to get back to drawing her, maybe later tonight even. I should do something for a Valentine's pic, only a day left!
