I didn't say whether I did or not because I felt it would be distracting and insert myself, where I don't believe I have a place. Furthermore, I think it adds to the power of the prose that I don't take a posistion. I give an "I report, you decide" view rather than "I report, I decide"

newenglandee - 11 years ago

Well if you intend for it to be satirical, it might be a good idea to say so outright in a tag or author's note. After all, this is the Internet. We can't read the "tone" of what people are saying the way we can in real life, or the way we see clear satire in a show or movie. Though if you ARE going for a satirical take, I'd love to see more from you, we don't have enough on the site; and it would fill a niche.

Axora - 11 years ago

that is one view. It is hardly universal. Professional scholars dispute whether to think that. I also fail to see the relevance of that. Just because something was meant to be satire, it cannot be analyzed?

also, might I also be satiring? I do not recall saying "I believe and advocate the views in this story" Kycillia asks a question at the opening and the ending. If we assume I wish to push a belief, then why not have her give an opinion one way or the other?

newenglandee - 11 years ago

Machiavelli's famous book was SATRICAL. You do realize that, right? He wrote it after getting thrown in prison and was bitterly furious. It was his way of getting even with the guy who did it.

Tabatha_Cat - 11 years ago

My feline predator character has a set of ethics. It's very much as you say; in her mind certain species are prey by nature, and so fair game. She would never dream of eating a fellow feline for example, even if they were somehow shrunk. But mice? They're meant to be supper!

Even so, she recognizes rodents as thinking feeling creatures, and has a certain predatory code. She will not physically torture another creature. She will not eat except when hungry. She's gentle to those who are submissive and ask, and she typically grants reasonable last requests (reasonable obviously does not include not being eaten). She doesn't play favorites with prey, and only preds for food, not because she's angry or out of spite. She makes a point of never lying to prey (though she may not tell the whole truth ^^). And when not hungry, she's quite gracious, giving food or help to prey who ask. She feels a certain obligation to those species who provide food and nourishment for hers, a certain predess oblige. ^_^
